legion3 Posted August 1, 2015 #351 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Have you been on a Carnival cruise? Is there food really worse? Harriet No, and he certainly doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to an NCL cruise let alone a Carnival cruise he has never been on. Carnival has far better MDR food than NCL could hope to have. Both buffets suck and NCL has more specialty restaurants than CCL but when compared to each other the Carnival Steakhouse seemed better than Cagny's overall. Food is subjective but I have tried everything both lines have to offer for food and only choose NCL because of the UDP for free, as we know we will almost always eat away from NCL's MDR's. Otherwise we might have (and still might) go on some other line if the cost is better.
legion3 Posted August 1, 2015 #352 Share Posted August 1, 2015 I could not have said it better myself, very well put and I agree completely. But you don't know what he is talking about since you have only cruised twice on NCL and never anywhere else. So your agreement is really of no use. As for the Carnival cheerleader... Are you referring to me as the Carnival cheerleader? Let's get real. I was only talking about casino offers. I think some people here are just looking for an argument.
Rare LMaxwell Posted August 1, 2015 #355 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Ya gotta love carnival advertising on a Norwegian thread I think you should re-read my post. I am going on NCL 4 day out of Miami and then 8 weeks later I am going on a Carnival 4 day out of Miami on a different itinerary. NCL is Bahamas, Carnival is Key West and Cozumel. The ships are similarly sized and similar age, and I will be in a standard oceanview room on each. Given the similarities and closeness of timeframe it will make for an interesting comparison in the way things are run. Is this a problem for you or are you having a hard time understanding the point I've made?

Obviously........
Rare sparks1093 Posted August 1, 2015 #360 Share Posted August 1, 2015 I always see this thread pop up in my feed and it makes me sick. Yea, I'm gonna cancel my Ncl cruise over 8 bucks. Cheapness is not only a sickness but a disease as well. It makes me laugh though someone that cancels their Ncl cruise (especially over a gratuity increase) to go on a carnival cruise to have a less enjoyable time and eat worse food. Cancelling a cruise over $8 would be rather silly, but most of the people that cancelled did so over much more than that (in their eyes) or the $8 was the straw that broke the camels back. This thread has been going on for some time now and predates the most recent increase in the service charge.

hpecorari Posted August 1, 2015 #363 Share Posted August 1, 2015 No ma'am what i agreed with was cheapness being a sickness. Understand. Maybe in the future you can only quote what you're referring to. In your case it was "cheapness is not only a sickness....etc. But the way you quoted the entire thing....then said you agree 100%, I took it as you agreed with everything...including that Carnival's food wasn't as good. Mrs. Squirrel Posted August 1, 2015 #365 Share Posted August 1, 2015 It's nice to change it up - especially when given so many reasons to do so! We are heading to MSC for our next booking. I always wanted to try it, and the NCL changes just gave us more reason to do so. I am on MSC Divina for our next cuise this winter. I did cancel our NCL Getaway Christmas sailing. If you're interested, here's my review of our first MSC cruise. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2039057&highlight=divina+reviews

NLH Arizona Posted August 1, 2015 #367 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Having just sailed both Carnival and NCL on similar size ships within six months of each other, I can't agree that Carnival has worse food. It was better. My neighbors recently came back from a Carnival cruise and they said they would never cruise with them again, mainly because the food was so bad, in their opinion. They also cruise on Princess, NCL and Holland America.

It was better. Food is very subjective but most people seem to think NCls is a little better and now, since they changed thier MDR menu it has greatly imporved, but again, we all have our own ideas about food. I enjoy most of what we get on NCL; more so than say, Princess. I haven't cruise Carnival in some time. EVen if you sailed the two lines in the past 6 months, have you sailed NCL since the new menu? Shawnino Posted August 1, 2015 #372 Share Posted August 1, 2015 To be honest, I always wanted to try Carnival.....but CAS gives me free cruises with NCL and I just can't see paying for a cruise on Carnival. I know that sounds stupid, but that's how I feel at this time. Harriet What's your theoretical loss in the Casino for your 'free' cruise?

Carnival also has a new menu, well NCL needed a new menu but the changes on paper don't look much better in the MDR. But proof is in the pudding. So perhaps the menu is better but with the UDP we probably won't find out. Most people on the NCL site think the food is a little better but not as many as think it is Not better on the Carnival board. Go figure ;)

Hmmm, this does not fill me with confidence but since I'm not a salmon fan this is not a big loss. :D Looking at the NCL menus I am left uninspired. But maybe the taste is better. NCL for us = Speciality Restaurants Yes, MDR Practically NO, Buffet Heck NO. :p
