Spirit was originally built for the Asian market so there is a certain logic to that. Whether the Spirit's casino is up to snuff for that market is perhaps another question?

We are cruising on the Spirit Dec. 2015 (also had it booked for Dec.16:()

does the casino have the newer slot machines that you look up and the dragon or whatever goes crazy (I am not sure if they are the ones folks call video slots) I booked friends on the cruise and was hoping to show them those kind of slots, they had them on the Sun this past March, they were alot of fun.:)

IIRC 2 years ago they had a reasonably modern selection of video slots (mean as hell though:rolleyes:) - whether the casino is big enough in terms of table games - I do not recall. Cannot remember any dancing dragons - then I hit very few feature games on my cruise:mad:.

Not sure that NCL is ready to send a big ship to Asia until they see what type of response (bookings) they get from the deployment of the Star to Asia. I can see Bliss going to Europe and one of the other smaller ships (Spirit) going to Asia.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think the Asian market has any brand loyalty, so their allure is the big new ships coming their way. RCI mega ships, including the brand new Quantum have already tapped into that market and are making a killing. All the NCL execs need to do is scale the success of those ships.

Thanks! I hope they have them, when you hit the bonus the machine "yells"

LOOK UP!!!! and the screen up above starts doing all kinds of things and everybody around stops what they are doing to watch, usually turns out you win about a dollar after all that hoopla you would think you actually hit it big:D

I know it is just me, but I have no desire to sail on ANY ship over 100,000 tons or more than 2500 or so passengers. Just not my ideal of a relaxing vacation.

It certainly isn't just you. It's an often stated opinion. Interestingly, it's usually stated by people who haven't actually been on the bigger ships, so they are basing their opinion on assumptions.

For the record, I've been on a number of NCL ships from the Spirit (I'm writing this on my balcony on the Spirit now) to the Epic and Breakaway Class ships, and the ones that felt the busiest and least relaxing to me were the Pearl and Jade, both of which are under your criteria.

Thanks,

I have been following your thread, we were on the same cruise exactly 1 year ago. The Spirit is one of my all time favorite ships.

I will see what you mean first hand as we are on the Pearl for Alaska next summer.

I actually prefer the larger ships, with more activities, venues, and especially restaurants!

... while at the same time keeping mind the passenger space ratio. I don't care to feel like a sardine!

I loved that cruise. I guarantee you will have a great time. We're busy planning our return to Alaska.

Don't dismiss the big ones though. You may not like them, but you may be surprised. I have to say though that I do think the Spirit is my fave.

I wonder if everyone hasn't missed an important piece of the puzzle.

From last week:

Speaking to Cruise Critic at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany where Norwegian Escape is currently under construction, new president Andy Stuart admitted the line was currently examining two strategies for the Asian market.

"There are two things we're looking at," he said. "
One of these is deploying a Norwegian ship to the Asian market, designed to serve our current focus markets of the U.S., U.K. and Europe.
It would be another deployment option for our passengers -- we haven't had a ship in this region since 2001."

"And then there is the bigger step," said Stuart, who took over as president and chief operating officer of Norwegian Cruise Line in March. "
This would be to deploy a ship in Asia, for the Asian market.
It is an important region that we are not currently represented in as Norwegian Cruise Line."

With the seasonal deployment of the Star, I would argue that they are addressing the first item...deploying a Norwegian ship to the Asian market, designed to serve our current focus markets of the U.S., U.K. and Europe". I think NCL's focus for the Star will be on getting people from the U.S., the U.K., and Europe to go to Asia to cruise on her.

I don't believe that NCL is going to be using the Star (at this time) for the second step...which is deploying a ship in Asia for the Asian market.

lol no.

quarterly #s were supposed to be released last week.

they postponed it till today to coincide with their big announcement.

btw- impressive as those quarterly #s are in that link, they missed some analysts estimates and the stock got punished today.

it was down as much as -6% and closed at -4%.

Heavens NO

Float Out mid to late September Sea Trials in October.

She sails from Southampton on the 29th of October for Miami.

FYI, since you scolded me for suggesting the float out was going to be early August. It appears I was off by 12 days. :p
