coupons on HAL through TA

Has anyone ever booked a cruise and the TA states there will be coupons in the cabin to be used for purchases. I have tried to find out what they can be used for. This is not an OBC.

We have received a coupon booklet and found little in it of interest. If you Google "Holland America Onboard Value Book" you will find travel agent links that give specifics of what is included typically.

Don't get too excited about it. :) You may find a few coupons that have value for you.

I think one of the two times we received the coupon book it gave us a discount for a wine package (the upgraded one) but I can't think of anything else we used it for. Wasn't that impressive.

I vaguely remember having one coupon in the whole book that was something I could use. Most were geared to having you spend more money.:rolleyes:

FWIW if you are not above a 2* Mariner and drink wine, there is usually a coupon for the Admiral package and a free PG dinner if you order with the coupon. If you are going to order the wine package anyways it's a good deal :)

 

Same with a couple of others. Best thing is to take a look and see what you would us. Don't worry about what you won't and use what you would. A penny saved.....;)

We have gotten those coupon books on several cruises. Never used one coupon.

The first time we got them, I asked our TA if she sent them to us -- NOPE!!

So they don't always come from TA's.

These appear on ships across many cruise lines....first time I kept looking for the coupon book with the fabulous discounts. Turns out that the cheezy promo booklet was all there was.

 

IMO the only real discounts out there are FCD's and CCL shareholder credits.

Even my TA could barely supress a laugh when she listed it as one of the "amenities" for a cruise we recently booked :rolleyes:
