fischymom Posted July 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I have seen the posts about seeing famous people and that got me thinking about what happened to us on our last two cruises. Have you ever ran into some one on a cruise that you knew, were from your town, etc? We have had this happen 2x. The first time my then 20 yr old son met someone who lived not to far from him in Lincoln, Ne. and the next year on spring break in Texas he ran into her again (strange that it happened to him again :) ) Then on our last one we got talking to a lady in the elevator about the college sweatshirt and hats that we were wearing. And the lady actually grew up about 20 miles from our farm and we know the family well.
EGG Posted July 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2015 It was embarkation day and we had just left our cabin. DH was looking at his nook as he walked. I was walking a few steps ahead. The couple in the cabin next door came out between us and the gentleman was walking next to my husband looking at my husband's nook. Suddenly, the wife screamed as she recognized me. It turned out he was my husbands' best friend from high school and we had not seen them in 15 years. We immediately went to the dining room and changed our table for dinner so we could eat and spend the evening together. The interesting part of the story is although we were next door to each other, we never again came out of the cabin again at the same time on that 11 day cruise so if it were not for that brief encounter we might have missed them. Rob&Bonnie Posted July 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Yes - we were eating lunch when I said to DH - that looks like the kes****'s. He looked and said that is because it was. There 2 sons grew up with ours and they played hockey together for years. Small world....
mimimoo2 Posted July 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) We were on the Brilliance of the Seas in the Mediterranean and I was walking down the steps in the Theater and I hear my name being called. I turn to look and it was a woman that I had worked closely with. We were half way around the world, and there she was with her husband and parents. It was funny that we have to fly for 12 hours to see each other! Edited July 27, 2015 by mimimoo2
nomoreknothead Posted July 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We flew to FL and sailed the Liberty out of Port Canaveral. I was walking through the solarium and noticed a client of mine and her husband. Who would have thought that we would have both flown all the way from a little town in Texas to Florida, the same day and get onboard the same ship! We've since had many laughs about cruising " together " !
princess*bride Posted July 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) My parents are divorced but were married for 30 years. Shortly after the divorce, they both ended up cruising on the same ship at the same time! My brother and I did our best to make sure they were on separate floors and dining times. On a different cruise, my sister-in-law ran into her ex fiancé and his family. This is the downside of living driving distance from a port!! LisaGoeke Posted July 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Yes. Once I ran into a coworker and his new wife, they were on their honeymoon. We once ran into our boys' gym teacher onboard. My daughter has seen several people she knows from school. Our school district gets one week fall break so I think that's why we end up seeing a lot of people we know from the area since we cruise in the fall. Oh and once I was on Facebook and I noticed a girl I went to high school with had posted some pictures of her cruise, ends up we were on the same cruise (but we never seen each other). Missus Makkem Posted July 27, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We were on the Indie and my OH was at the loyalty ambassadors desk and she asked where I was ...at Trivia and this gentleman said would that be,,,? and said my maiden name. Cut a long story short we had been at school together and he had lived in Australia for 32 years so we had a lot of catching up to do. He and his wife call to see us whenever they come back to visit family in UK
jules815 Posted July 27, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 27, 2015 One time after sailing on Mariner out of PC we were grabbing our luggage after disembarking and my husband ran into a co-worker who had been on the same cruise. Seven days on the same ship and we never once ran into them.

diggers dad Posted July 27, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2015 In November of 2006, on the Grandeur, we got to be friends with a couple sitting at our table in the MDR that live about 90 miles from us. We ran into them again on the Explorer in January of 2008 and on the Explorer in March 2009. We started meeting them for dinner a couple times a year at a casino near where they live and in October 2012 we finally planned and took a cruise with them on the Enchantment. We now have a cruise booked with them in September on the Liberty.
debshomespun Posted July 27, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Was walking by an elevator and I hear my name. He worked part time at the same office as I did. Was in the Concierge lounge one evening, and a young couple on their honeymoon, the bride used to play high school soccer with our daughter. jean s Posted July 28, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Sitting at the aft pool I heard someone shout my maiden name. I turned around and there was one of my best friend's from elementary school. I had not seen her in over 20 years so it was wonderful catching up. On another cruise we were sitting at the Princess owned beach in Roatan and I turned and there was my cousin's cousin and her husband. It really is a small world. gooch47 Posted July 28, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 28, 2015 We were walking through a lounge on the POA and someone called my name. It was a former pastor and his family. Then he said, "Oh, by the way, your tour tickets were mistakenly delivered to our cabin." What were the chances of that?
sail7seas Posted July 28, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 28, 2015 We walked into Pinnacle Bar on HAL ship and saw an Insurance man who had offices near my DH's professional office. DH never much liked him at home and like him less on the ship. :) He was particularly irked when he walked into our favorite lounge and saw us having drinks with the Captain and his wife and saw us leave for dinner in the alternative restaurant. :D Somehow he forgot our names  and couldn't manage to introduce us to his wife who could not figure out why he was acting so weird. :D
gwsster Posted July 28, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Have you ever ran into some one on a cruise that you knew, were from your town, etc? Yes sitting on an Alaska cruise at 6:00 in the morning in the front of the ship by myself. A Gentleman sat at the next table...Prime view tables and the room was empty. We chatted and he mentioned where he was from in CA. I said, that is a small town and the Best Man who stood up for our wedding lives there. He said what's his name and we told him. They were good friends and went to breakfast together every week. We has lost track of "Jim" and we were able to reconnect via this encounter. Great topic. cruiserking Posted July 28, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Back in the olden days when I was in fifth grade I ran into my fifth grade teacher on board the QE2. Recently on board the Queen Elizabeth my wife and I ran into a close friend of my wife who we had previously met on the East End of Long Island. On several cruises we have seen the same passengers we had cruised with the previous season. Jonathan

sail7seas Posted July 28, 2015 #24 Share Posted July 28, 2015 LOL this has been great to hear how we have "found" people we know :D It always amazes me that how small the world really is. Early in our 'serious' travel, we learned how small the world really is. We had been walking all over Florence and DH noticed a 'designer' boutique. He decided he wanted a briefcase from this store so we went in, I was tired and found a chair and when I glanced at DH, I saw him rapt in conversation with two couples. They talked for a while and I got curious enough to get off my chair and go inquire. It was two colleagues from home my DH dealt with on a regular basis they were talking business. :D Taught us to always look around when speaking in public about something we wouldn't want to share. You never know who could be listening. :) We ran into fellow cruisers we met on other ships a number of times and it was always fun. I was walking down hallway to our cabin one afternoon, heard my first name called and turned to see a couple we had no idea was aboard but we had sailed with previously and shared some fabulous experiences. :) Just coincidental we had booked the same b-to-b. :)
SteveH2508 Posted July 28, 2015 #25 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I was sitting in Vines on day 2 of our Crown Princess cruise to Iceland and Norway. I nearly choked on my wine when I spotted a (recently) ex-student of mine - he did not see me. Fast forward 2 days to the excursion to the Blue Lagoon. We were sitting on the coach waiting to go and who should get on with his parents...(he did introduce us BTW)
