Which port would you skip on a S. Carib. sailing?

I'm going on the Liberty in January and it's a very port intensive cruise (St Thomas, St Marten, St Kitts, Barbados & St Lucia). Given your druthers if you were going to take a day off from an excursion, beach or shopping in port and just stay on the ship, which of these ports might you choose to miss?

I'd say St. Thomas too; but even there you can ride the tram car up over the harbor and back. St. Maarten is one of my favorite ports and St. Kitts is excellent as well; I've only been to St. Kitts once but would love to go back and tour around more. Haven't been to Barbados or St. Lucia, but I have the feeling they aren't exactly like Nassau!

 

They're all good ports!

Don't skip St. Lucia, we thought that port was fantastic!

 

Though maybe we just had a great tour. But we ended up at a beach resort between the famous St. Lucia Pitons at the end of the tour, and it's beautiful! Probably our favorite port ever. Though I hear it is a long drive over bad roads if you go to see the Pitons by by land. Out tour went by boat most of the way, and that was very pleasant.

 

I guess if I had to skip one I'd say St. Thomas as well, because you've probably been there before if you've cruise much at all. But even then taking a trip over to St. John's is a very rewarding option if you've never done that.

They are all fantastic ports. I wouldn't voluntarily skip any of them. If I had to pick one, it would probably be St. Thomas just because it is on a lot of different itineraries so it would be the one I was most likely able to make it back to. Barbados was our favorite. We had so much fun at the Boatyard and snorkeling with sea turtles. Just a fun, relaxing day.

Been to all of these ports and if I had to skip one, it would be St. Thomas. Never would I skip any of the others but we are planning on skipping St. Thomas on our next cruise and staying on the ship since it is 15 port days.

I did this itinerary...it was fabulous.

 

I wouldn't miss Barbados, St. Kitts or St. Lucia.

 

I would pick St. Maarten or St. Thomas (for me, it's St. Maarten).

 

Barbados...water is gorgeous and crystal clear (most people like going to a beach/bar called the Boat Yard). The swim with the turtles was great.

 

St. Kitts... Timothy Hill (seeing both the Atlantic and Carribbean Oceans meet) and Carambola beach club was terrific (peaceful and gorgeous views of the hills and mountains in the distance of their other island of Nevis)

 

St. Lucia..did the day tour by boat and excursion van. so much to see. This was our fav. St. Lucia was like a South Pacific island...very pretty and also very interesting.

 

St. Thomas..lots of choices if you choose to do this island. My fav is to head over to Trunk Bay on St. John. Second choice is Coki Beach. Both have crystal clear water.

 

St. Maarten..not my favorite of any island. Others can probably chime in with suggestions to help you decide which one to eliminate. This was our last port, so we already had 4 ports under our belts. We made it our "stay on the ship day" to relax and unwind by the pool.

 

Yes, it's very port intensive, but you'll have a great time.:)

I's skip St Thomas but it would depend on which have you been to. You might want to see it if you haven't been there, we've been several times and it's become so commercial.

When I took this cruise a few years ago, there WERE no sea days, that is probably the OP's dilemma.........I think I am still exhausted from that cruise, but it was beautiful.

 

As others have stated, I would say to skip St.Thomas since it's such a common stop. I second Barbados but it's not visited as often so you might want to go if you haven't before :)

If I absolutely had to skip a port on that cruise, I'd pick either a) St. Thomas, for reasons others have mentioned - it's frequently a port stop on other cruises, so you'll likely get to go back someday, whereas the other ports are less common or b) St. Maarten, due to the fact that it's the last full day of your cruise. If you skip St. Maarten, you'll have the last day of your cruise onboard to unwind, relax, and enjoy the ship before heading home, whereas St. Thomas is at the beginning of the cruise, with the only day at sea right after it. By the time you get to St. Maarten, I think it's more likely that you'll be tired and ready to stay on the ship after visiting three ports in the previous three days.

 

When I did this cruise back in March, I'd say my favorite port was Barbados (the ocean was so clear and calm in Carlisle Bay, it was like swimming in a giant pool) and my least favorite was St. Maarten, though it may have just been a victim of being the last port we visited after so many wonderful ones. The scenery in St. Kitts and St. Lucia was beautiful, though, and I loved them both.

We had a similar itinerary and decided to just walk around the port in the morning then take advantage of the mostly empty boat for the rest of the day.

I have almost the same problem. We are doing a Journey's cruise in November. 11 nights with ONLY TWO sea days, days one and three! Oh, what was I thinking??? :eek:

 

The answers is a casino offer I couldn't resist, but then after I booked reality hit and I'm just too old to think I'm going to be able to do 7 ports in a row that I've never been to, and live to tell it. :D

 

My list to narrow down is St Thomas, Tortola, St Kitts, Dominica, St Lucia, Antigua and St Croix. I honestly don't think I'll be able to skip a single one but I'm also overwhelmed with the choices. I feel your pain Cruisegoer!

I would tend to agree. I love the beach so I'd never skip St. Thomas and the chance to swim in perfectly clear water, whether it's on St. Thomas or St. John. If you're not a beach person, I get skipping St. Thomas. My choice for pretty much the same reasons stated above is St. Maarten. It's the last port and you'll be spent after three islands in three days. It's hard for us to skip a beach though. We actually did miss St. Maarten anyway on our last cruise. Superstorm Sandy had sent some swells that made it "unsafe" to dock. We had a sea day instead circling St. Maarten in perfectly calm seas. I wasn't complaining. We'll be off somewhere on a beach when we go in December.
