What is appropriate to tip the Concierge at the end of the cruise?

Thanks,

LJC

It really depends on what "specific" services the Concierge did for you. Whatever you feel is appropriate will be appreciated, no matter the amount.

If you are utilizing the bar servers during cocktail hour, you can either tip per drink or at the end of the cruise. Again, it's all up to you.

Your prepaid grats cover your suite attendant, waiter, ass't waiter and head waiter.

Since drinks in the CL have no charge, a tip should be extended to the bartenders....whether nightly or at the end of the cruise.

If the Concierge does something for you..tip accordingly. If you never use their services, there is absolutely no need to tip anything for a job not done!!

.....A hundred bucks because I have seen a large number of "upper tier royalty" stiff the poor soul or give them a paltry sum because they are entitled to the privilege..............also give to the waiters/waitresses handsomely for they have to put up with a lot of nonsense that goes on after a couple of "royal drinks".;)

We have been on cruises where we didn't even see the Concierge and they were tipped accordingly . On a recent Freedom cruise we were traveling with non suite guests and Rahul allowed them into the CL ( don't shoot me, we were the only ones in there ) then escorted us to Barefoot Beach. We gave him $100 at the end of the cruise. I guess it depends on the level of service you feel you received !

Of course they have a charge. Suites cost a lot more than other staterooms and the "free" drinks are factored into the price.

I agree that tip should be extended but your logic for doing so is flawed......

I tip $50 to the C and $25 to each server at the end of the week...

And is that on top of the prepaid gratuities?

Yes, The Concierge in either lounge is not included in your prepaid gratuities.

Effective June 1, 2015 The automatic gratuity is $12.95 USD, or $15.95 USD for suite guests, applied to each guest's SeaPass® account on a daily basis. Here's how it is shared between your onboard service team:

  • Dining & Culinary Services: $7.75 USD
  • Stateroom Attendant: $3.85 USD OR Suite Attendant: $6.10 USD
  • Other Housekeeping Services: $1.35 USD OR Housekeeping and Suite Services: $2.10 USD

You don't have to be in a suite to go to the CL. As long as you're D+ you can go to the CL.

What you are talking about would make sense for the Suite Lounge on the Oasis class.

We used to give the bar servers $20-25 each at the end of the week, but then we noticed on a cruise awhile back that they weren't the same guys every night. So now we've started tipping nightly on a per drink basis.

As others have said, our tip to the Concierge really depends on how much assistance we've needed/received during the cruise. The lowest we've tipped is $20 and the highest was $100.

Good point.....however to get to d+ you need to spendcsome dollars with RCCI!

D+ have certainly paid for the privilege.

We're in with the $20 to $50 crowd, with typically $10 to $20 to the servers.

CL experience shows some Concierges strike a good balance between the D+/P clientele and the Suite clientele, and others swing too far in one direction or the other.

We were in the suite lounge on the Oasis for our Aug. 1st sailing.

Both conceiernages helps us and the one bartender greated us nightly and kept our drinks going. The other two .....ignored us, dunno maybe they stake claim or had squatters rights:eek:

If you had the drink package they just made your specific request of mixes. For me some nights captain and diet coke. If you did not have the drink package you got "rum" and coke.

We tipped both conciernages $40 each, for all their help.

We tipped our bartender $40 also.

The morning we were escorted off the ship the conciernages thanked us.

I am a solo traveler and usually tip the concierge $20 for a 7 day cruise. Again, depends if he/she does something for me. I have tipped as much as $75 for one because he really went out of his way for my birthday one year.

As for the bartenders, I tip $1 per drink.

We have struggled with this question for years and this is the first time that I've seen this actual question ask as a thread so thank you for asking. Without guidance from others available we finally came up with a formula to use. We tip the concierge $5/day (more if he/she does anything extra for us and less if they have a really bad attitude [i know never happens with these great people but unfortunately....we once boycotted the CL because a concierge had been really snotty with us and that was after he had been tipped the prior week. He eventually came looking for us down in the DL but I wasn't feeling very forgiving]). As for the servers, we like to carry $2 bills for tips. Usually once before dinner and once or twice after.

WOW, that was very nice.

If I had been given such a nice exception to the rules I might not want to spread the specifics around, as it might get the concierge in trouble.

On a different ship, (and because I've read stories like yours) I asked to have my adult daughter cabin mate ( who is Diamond) join me (I am D+) in the CL to have a soda ( she is not a drinker) and was given a huge loud NO, Mrs. XXXX, that is NOT ALLOWED! He made sure the few in the room heard. I peaked in a few times and the lounge was practically empty. We were happy to spend some time in the DL and tipped generously.

More recently, we simply have a drink in a bar using a voucher and rarely use the lounge in the evening. I might go in during the morning for coffee and some continental breakfast. I can go a week and never see the concierge and may never ask for any service or assistance. If that is the case, we still give a small tip at the end of the cruise, I guess my rationalization is that he/she is taking care of running the lounge. We always tipped the CL/DL servers per drink (at the time we are provided the drink) and do the same at the ship bars if we use a voucher.

enjoy

:D:p I can almost guess who you are talking about but wouldn't want to mention names here. Funny thing is that over the years we ended up liking them a lot but not at first.

For sure - I know I was asking for an exception, but a simple "no" , would have been sufficient. Funny - it was not crowded and she is not a drinker, and we just went in to chat with some cruise friends we happened to run into once we boarded. It was the first time I asked and you can be sure the last!

BTW - your tip post give good guidance.

Our formula is very similar to yours. Some concierges have outstanding attitudes and provide better service than others, so we tip accordingly.
