vozzie Posted August 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2015 Am on the Spirit cruising from Singapore to Sydney, after its dry dock. All is not well. After a 3 hour checkin in the tropical heat, with stories of passengers fainting, we got away 4 hours late. The pools had no water this morning, some of the venues aren't completed, a group of balcony doors won't close, bare electrical wires hanging from some cabin. Dirt and paint chips everywhere, some passengers who booked balcony suites put in inside cabins as cabins in liveable. They are trying to get things fixed...and the food and alcohol is still flowing...but it's a rocky start to the new season. The Captain has just announced a 25% fare refund for all passengers. vozzie Posted August 31, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted August 31, 2015 It's always a bit of a gamble after a re-fit and we went into it expecting that...anything could happen, but hoping for the best. Still 14 days to go...and any cruise is a good cruise...you just have to adapt to the situation. I do feel sorry for those badly affected though. It is fair to say we didn’t put our best foot forward on Sunday when we departed from Singapore. While the scheduled upgrades were completed on time, not everything on Carnival Spirit was as ship shape as it should have been for our guests. Our onboard team have been working around the clock to restore the ship to our high standards. We are also focused on taking care of our guests and ensuring they have a great time despite the unexpected challenges the first few days of the cruise. We greatly appreciate their patience whilst we get everything up to scratch. There were two upgrades that were scheduled to be completed after the Dry Dock. Bonsai Sushi will open by 10 September. The new Camp Ocean space will debut on 25 September as previously announced. As planned, for this itinerary and the next one departing 14th September, the youth programs will continue to run as normal just in different spaces. Just arrived in Bali....This is our thirteenth cruise and first with Carnival....thought we would give Carnival ago....big mistake. The check in was a disaster....took us 3 hrs from security to board ship....there were kids stuck in long queues having to rush to bathrooms because of wait. No pa announcements made about delays...just shore side staff with little info about what was happening. ...where was the Carnival upper management. ...nowhere to be seen. Finally when we boarded...no officers or management to welcome us onboard or apologize for the shocker they were having. The main pool was out of order for the first two sea days and today it's about to open...Green Thunder their star atraction was out of order until sea day 2. Some bars have no post mix or beer on tap. First sea day Capital gets on pa and apologies for Carnivals lack of services....it was sincere and well done. Second sea day we got a letter of apology and offer of 25% refund of cruise fare in refundable obc....this is a generous offer and very welcome. Upheavals after any dry dock , for any ship , of any cruise line are quite common. Not only are there "things" to finish off but the staf are usually new to the ship and so take a few days to get into the swing of things and establish a routine. It is also quite usual for workman to remain on board for the first cruise to complete and fine tune work. These first cruises ar usually priced to take all this into account and so are quite good bargains as long as you realise what's going on. My main problem is lack of information....we were signed up social media site and no information was given about delays. No compo, the odd sorry from staff and when we finally got to the entry hatch, rude and unpleasant security staff. Some of these companies need to sharpen up their act. Steve. Takes me back to 2007 when were on last cruise of Regal Princess, LA to Sydney before conversion to Pacific Dawn. We had 100 tradies get on in Fiji/NZ and work on pools, cabins, public rooms for a week, a construction site at sea, it was a PR disaster also. I think we got 25% refund on that one to. The post above said it was refundable OBC, which is the best of both worlds. You get the credit now so you can use right now if you need to. So there's no need to wait = Plus. Steve, it's not the wait so much....but lack of facilities like pools etc. Neither pool was open on embarkation or spa. Our room had no hot water for a couple of hrs....some peoples tv weren't working. But we are more than happy with Carnivals response ☺ As far as a construction site...that's not true. Would people have been happy for their cruise to have been cancelled on Sunday or even have the departure delayed a few days, which wasn't possible as the ship needs to be back in Sydney on Sep. 14 for the next cruise. As for the pools, would anybody have complained if the pools had been filled with sea water containing god knows what before it left Singapore? Most experienced cruisers would know that any ship on it's 1st cruise out of dry dock is never finished, that's just Murphy's Law :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
