Rare Host Anne Posted September 8, 2015 #26 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Folks, if you can't answer the OPs question, please don't post. The OP didn't ask for thoughts on whether watching TV on a ship was a good idea. They asked for suggestions of what to watch.
maywell Posted September 8, 2015 #27 Share Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) I winded up binge watching Miami Vice and Harry Potter series on 1st trip. And for the 2nd one; literally binge watch on Mentalist, Mike & Molly, Parks & Recreation, Criminal Minds, Rick Steve, the documentaries of picturesque aerial shots of Italy whose name escapes me plus the movies Rear Window, Grumpy old men & Grumpier old men, Some like it hot, Divergent, All three Bourne movies & the Jackie Robinson movie whose name escapes me (Okay, I was sick and well, those are some good movies & shows to watch when you're self-quarantine. :D) If have to binge watch for fun - Breaking Bad, Mad men, the Americans, Orphan Black, Sherlock, Doctor Who (old and new series), It's always sunny in Philadelphia, Louie, Archer; for starters. perditax Posted September 8, 2015 #28 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Speaking of Amazon Video and offline viewing, I know it's got "Mighty Ships" and maybe Mighty Cruise Ships, a documentary series that often features mainstream ships including NCL, Celebrity, RCCL, and also Crystal. jmf123 Posted September 8, 2015 #31 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Another Rectify viewer! Did you know it's literally got the lowest viewing numbers of any cable drama? Fortunately Sundance doesn't care. I still spread the word whenever I can. And there's a third Rectify fan on this thread (taleksun)! Thanks for your suggestion of The Americas, perditax, I just added that to Netflix- as well as The Shield. I also enjoyed those Mighty Ships shows, Six Feet Under, and Orphan Black. I may check out Orange Is The New Black.

maywell Posted September 8, 2015 #33 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I forgot about: The Flash The Arrow Fargo the series Once a upon a time Supernatural How to get away with murder Agents of SHIELD The Blacklist Burn Notice Law & Order series (pick any season /version - good binge watching any which way) White Collar PBS Masterpiece (Pick a series from there - good binge any which way)
calliopecruiser Posted September 8, 2015 #34 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Favourite series you may like: Sherlock Orphan Black Luther Fargo Justified X-Files (really - still holds up well after 25 years!) If you like the hard-edged cop shows, consider Luther -- fewer episodes (like most UK shows), but Idris Elba does an amazing job. Fargo is NOT a series based on the movie, but it has the same feeling and strange sense of humour. Sherlock is just all-round amazing.
srlafleur Posted September 8, 2015 #35 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Oooh, good idea, downloading binge-worthy TV! Personally, I prefer reading on a cruise, but having a series or 2 for the hubs to binge watch might cut down on casino time! (money saved could buy a new tablet!) Thanks for the great idea! (And for the lists of shows!) :D
Hflors Posted September 8, 2015 #36 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Doc Martin - Just too funny to explain The last ship - the only problem is only season 1 is available The winds of War and War and Remembrance - was a great mini series Another very good series if you are into WW2 as I am is Foyle's War. Excellent viewing Remember also that a lot of ships have theatres - so check that out while onboard. Please come back and let us know what you decide. I also take my mini dvd player and some of my favorite dvd's for when I am feeling lazy. DH is usually reading and I will pop in one of my favorite dvds. Great way to spend a lazy evening or afternoon.

oncruisecontrol Posted September 10, 2015 #38 Share Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I just binged watched all 7 seasons of The West Wing. It was not as good after Aaron Sorkin left (I think end of season 4), but it is still a great show and rebounds for the last season. My personal favourite shows are, in no particular order (except #1 which really is #1. All would be great for binge watching: 1) Lost Battlestar Gallactica (reboot) 3) The Wire 4) The Americans 5) Broadchurch 6) Dr Who 7) Sherlock 8) Arrested Development 9) Band of Brothers 10) The Pacific 10) Dexter (until Season end of season 4) 11) Ken Burn's documentaries the Civil War & The War I am sure I am missing a ton... Two of your choices (which I highlighted in red) caught my eye. I agree with Battlestar Gallactica, but I am a fan of the original. And with regard to Doctor Who, I am wondering: Who is your favorite Doctor? Mine is, hands down, Tom Baker! slidergirl Posted September 10, 2015 #41 Share Posted September 10, 2015 I'm a fan of the series from USA Network. I'd do some binge watching of: Burn Notice White Collar Graceland Mr. Robot (just finished airing the 1st season) Suits Psych The last poster brought up Magnum, P.I. I'd binge watch that any time. At one time, I had VHS tapes of the last 2 seasons...
perditax Posted September 10, 2015 #42 Share Posted September 10, 2015 I'm having a dead summer TV-wise, so I'm re-watching the Buffy spinoff, Angel. Both shows are on Amazon Prime and can be downloaded to the app for offline viewing. That said, I discovered today that you can only have about 20 eps downloaded at once, so something to note. calliopecruiser Posted September 10, 2015 #44 Share Posted September 10, 2015 And with regard to Doctor Who, I am wondering: Who is your favorite Doctor? Mine is, hands down, Tom Baker! Lord, no......it has to be David Tennant. Without a doubt. Chris Eccleston is a close second. None of the original group compare - which is fair, because the original and reboot have a very different tones and themes. Well, at least until the last season, which I find closer in to the originals.
moqui_girl Posted September 10, 2015 #45 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Based on the OPs recent viewing I'd add another vote for Dexter (it does slump a little around season 5 but I liked the last two seasons). Game of Thrones and West Wing are, in my opinion, two of the greatest TV series of all time and definitely worth persisting. I've watch most of both series twice. People have mentioned The Wire, that's also very gritty in the vain if things your previously described but I just couldn't get into it. I watched the entire first season and felt it was too slow but you might have more patience than me [emoji57]

srlafleur Posted September 10, 2015 #47 Share Posted September 10, 2015 The hubs would be quite happy re(re-re-re)-watching Castle, Burn Notice, and NCIS. He puts reruns of Castle and NCIS for "easy-listening" when he's on the computer. "House" is one I wouldn't mind a binge re-watch. I could also get into however many hours it takes for The Hobbit and LOTR movies back to back. I'm contemplating maybe Blacklist. We've been avoiding the show because we want to watch it from the beginning, making it a good choice for us.
Rare sprint180 Posted September 10, 2015 #48 Share Posted September 10, 2015 How do you download tv shows and movies on to a tablet? Sounds like a good idea to do on my overseas trip but I don't know how to do any of that stuff.

Peter Davidson,Patrick Troughton , Troy Baker, Jon Pertwee, Matt Smith, David Tennant - in that order. Peter Capaldi is starting to grow on me, just meh on him right now.
