Rare Alphen Posted January 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Koningsdam on the move! Koningsdam is currently moving away from her initial berth, assisted by 3 tugs, january 2nd 2016, 09:00 local time! Whether this is already for her first test runs, or just to move her to another position is unclear, but we will see. Our fellow cruiser and maritime artist Topsham reported that she would commence test runs around the 4th of January, so the current move could be just a relocation, prior to her first test. AIS indicates destination Trieste, but this has been the case for several months, during her stay in this location, also, Trieste is not indicating a visit by Koningsdam in the next few days. Rare Alphen Posted January 2, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Not relocating, but currently under her own power in the direction of open sea, moving out of the Venetian basin two tugs following her footsteps, the third has just left her. Topsham Posted January 2, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Correct, She is currently in the anchor area, outside the Venice Lagune. Assume she is testing achoring procedures. And I am quite certain that you are right too! Anchors, steering gear, swing the compass.... lots of things to do. I was told for the 4th for sea trials but if they can bring the date forward... all the better. Don't want to be late! I can wait to see a nice large photo to see how she looks! Stephen Have been involved in acceptance and trials of navy ships, aircraft and helicopters, so understand a little bit how hectic these trials can be, for both yard and crew. Have also seen documentaries on Discovery about delivering new cruise ships and these can be even more critical, since a lot of dollars are involved. Not only for the yard, keeping to their contract specifications and dates, but also for the accepting side, because they will have anxious passengers waiting for the on-time delivery. At some point during the trials, I guess they will take the opportunity to make some press material, photo and video for commercial use, brochures and website and so on. Despegue Posted January 2, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 2, 2016 To follow up on Capt. Topsham, A lot depends also on the weather conditions, if conditions are benign for trials, they probably went for it. Winter often gives quite small trial windows...but also behaviour in high wind/seas will be tested later on. Steering, propulsion, stability, navigation equipment, emergency equipment are obviously among the first things tested.

Agree with you there, sometimes you are looking for certain conditions for your trials, sometimes you are looking for ways to avoid certain conditions, to squeeze in certain tests. She is currently slowly gaining speed, probably in steps to verify performance, vibrations and so on. They have good weather conditions over there, with average winds of around 15 to 20 knots.
