We need a new ship in Boston!!!!!

Would you consider RCCL Anthem Of The Seas a mid-sized ship? Royal has several cruises for Anthem to Canada/New England docking at Black Falcon this year.

 

We were told, I think while we were on the Dawn, that larger ships can dock in Boston like the Anthem, but they can not embark from Boston because of the number of people not the size of the ship.

 

I would like other ships and even other cruise lines to come to Boston, like Celebrity. Right now there are three cruise lines leaving from Boston, we have tried them all because like many others we live close by. I think there is enough interest in something else joining them.

 

I keep hoping for an east coast cruise like those on the west coast. Bermuda could be included along with any or all of the great ports like Martha's Vineyard, Newport RI, New York NY, Baltimore MD, Charlston SC, and any of the Florida stops including the Florida Keys.

I have been on the Dawn 5 times and although it is a nice ship , I am tired of it. We need something different in Boston to sail on. I love NCL and want to continue to book with them. I love to leave out of Boston since I live so close. Love their repo cruises in the fall, but I am so sick of the Dawn! I am now platinum with ncl but am looking at other cruise lines out of Boston just to have something different to look forward to. Come on NCL mix it up! RCL has a repo this fall out of Boston and the itinerary is much better. Price might be a little higher but just having a different ship will be worth it. FYI- The spirit is my favorite ship. she was awesome out of Boston.

At least you can go North or South from Boston, want to cruise out of Seattle guess what you are going to Alaska. Even when they re-position the ships they start in Canada and head south. :lol Air miles :thumb

As for docking at the cities in Bermuda, you'd need a much smaller ship or to tender in. NCL is out of the small ship game for good I imagine.

 

Did a Sept cruise to Bermuda, and on an excursion to St. George we were told that they are broadening the entryway into St. George harbor to accommodate larger ships. Apparently the issue is turn radius at the entry, not the harbor or docking availability within.

 

So they're shaving off some of the perimeter islands, apparently. I have no idea what time frame he was speaking of, but apparently it was something that had been approved, not just proposed.

We were on the Dawn in October AGAIN. The refurbishment was very nice but it is still the same ship. Nothing that new or exciting. We are booked on the Dawn next may only because it is a casino comp and no flights needed. I have been watching NCL for 2018 summer and fall itineraries but still not announced. I wish they would post them. Am considering another cruiseline just because it will be different and they already have itineraries posted in advance.

When people talk about what a port can handle, the issue is often depth, not width of the ship.

That sounds like a logical explanation...

I have never embarked from the Black Falcon Terminal, so am not that familiar with it, other than quickly passing thru it on port-of-call stops...

It seems to be a fairly large building, definitely long (can handle three ships), and several levels, although some major remodeling might be needed to turn around a mega ship....

I like your East Coast idea. This would lengthen the cruise beyond the usual seven days, but that's OK with me.

It was great, they included two more ports, Charlottetown in PEI and Sydney in New Brunswick instead of St. John. The ship was full, and everyone seemed to love it. It was the first trip after they did the transatlantic repositioning cruise. We left mid-week with an older crowd of retiree's. We were probably one of the youngest on the trip.

The number of people could be it in the terminal. I know the one time we sailed the Dawn out of Boston the terminal was packed like sardines. They could do what DCL did when they got the larger ships and enforce PATs.

Well the new itineraries are out for NCL. We still get the Dawn 2018 summer and winter. Oh well. We did not get another ship again. This will the 7th year in a row for the Dawn out of Boston. Boring!!!! Well at least we know our way around the ship l guess.

we live in Boston area too, but choose to sail from NYC for a variety of reasons. its only a 4 hour drive. the only time we sailed the Dawn (which we liked) was when it was in NOLA.

The Dawn is sailing out of San Juan and Tampa this winter...I have sailed the Dawn out of NOLA 3 times!!

How lovely it would be to get to a ship within an hour, if we could we would but in order to get variety we spend more travelling to the ship and back than the cruise itself. Try something a little further afield, it will give you different ports too.

April 2019 is blank for Dawn and Gem.

Seems possible, but perhaps Boston and/or NYC will have to wait until after the aways for one of the new slightly smaller ships in later years. Which ship would replace the Gem in NYC? The Dawn?
