BeckMoo Posted April 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2016 For those of you who do enjoy dressing up for the formal/ elegant night(s) during your cruise, what does that evening typically look like? Do you only wear your formal to the promenade and dinner? Does anyone wear their formals to the casino/ dance clubs/ performances, or do most people change into more casual clothing? On formal nights we dress for the night - dinner, show, after show, whatever. I done the full gown (with and without tiara) or just a cocktail dress. My husband wears his suit. Semi formal nights, I've toned it down a bit - either dress black slacks or mid-length black skirt with a sparkly top. And my husband wears dress shirt/pants & tie (no jacket). WupperAV Posted April 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2016 I rent a Tux from Princess and have my own Cummerbund, tie, shoes and studs. They take alot of pics and you can pick which ones you want to buy, if any.
OCruisers Posted April 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2016 We stay dressed for the entire evening BUT don't dress nearly as formally as we once did. :)
paluni Posted April 1, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2016 My husband wears a tux for the full night, for dinner and whatever we do afterwards. I wear a long or short formal outfit the whole night. We have been on cruises with lots of tuxes or not many, but that's what we always do. When my husband took a solo cruise, he wore his tux for formal nights, and sometimes he left it on all night, sometimes he changed for the rest of the night, depending on what was happening that night. On Royal, you see a wide range of attire. Some people change to casual right after dinner, some stay dressed up the entire evening.
iancal Posted April 1, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) At one time we used to change into casual after dinner. We only do casual now and simply dine in a alternate venue than the MDR. We cannot justify packing clothes/shoes etc, that we will only use for a few hours. It might be different if we lived near the departure port or if we did not do extended pre or post cruise trips. We see a definite trend to casual attire but that should not influence you. By all means dress up if this is what you enjoy. One of the good things about cruising today is that you have a choice and both are fine. Edited April 1, 2016 by iancal
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted April 1, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 1, 2016 We prefer the late dinner sitting so it depends on which cruise line we are on as to how our night unfolds. On Princess, where the late sitting has been at 7:45pm so far, we dress, go to one of the bars for a pre-dinner drink, dine, go to the late show if it's something we want to see and/or go to one of the bars. Maybe even have a dance. On Celebrity the late dinner sitting was 8:30pm, so dress then go to the early show and/or a bar for a pre-dinner drink, dine, maybe go for an after dinner drink if we feel like it. We had such a great group at dinner on our Celebrity cruise that sometimes we were among the last to leave the restaurant and in that case we just headed back to our cabin. GUT2407 Posted April 1, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 1, 2016 I'm with you.:) Are you? I thought it was Mrs Gut that was with me:p;). I suspect many people wear shirts, and maybe suits/tux's, that don't fit properly, because in all honesty if they fit properly they are no less comfortable than a T-Shirt and windbreaker. But then I wear a suit (or fancier get ups) every day I'm at work.
