print cruiseline's documents?

Do I need to print out the documents for my upcoming cruise on RCL? It just looks like a lot of advertising and information. I do not see anything that requires a signature or might be needed at the pier. I did the online check in and printed out my SetSail pass.

I haven't cruised in a while and things have changed!

You generally do not need to print the cruise docs, however it's a good idea to read them because they contain the cruise contract.

There are certain situations where you might want to print a portion of the cruise docs. If you have transfers from the cruise line, then there will be a page in the cruise docs with your transfer vouchers. If you have onboard credit from the cruise line, you may want to print that page so you have a record when you are onboard in case the ship does not give you the onboard credit.

Thanks for your prompt replies!

Guess I will print them out to be safe. I was just trying to save some ink and paper.

All you need for security is the SetSail pass. It's a waste of paper to print out the entire cruise docs. Beyond the one or two pages I mentioned above, no one will ask for those docs.

I agree with Clarea, RCL cruise docs are basically for information only, no reason at all to print unless you have transfers/OBC as Clarea mentioned. We cruised RCL last month, only printed the page with our OBC just in case. There is nothing on those pages that anyone will ask to see.

I never print them on paper. I always bring an electronic copy on my tablet and phone

No need to print the entire cruise docs. If you have cruise transfers you might want to print that page. Also contact info for cruise line insurance. I take an electronic copy on my Kindle. After 14 cruises on Celebrity, which is owned by RC, I have never been asked for the cruise documents to enter the port or to check in. Your express pass will get you past security.

This post will be a little long

We were signed onto the Radiance out of Vancouver for an Alaska Cruise/Land Tour with RCI.

We arrived at the terminal and the Wife signed in first. I stepped up to the counter and laid down my passport and booking confirmation papers.

The clerk fiddled for minute then came back and said to me, Sir, we no longer sell cabins at the pier and the shipped is booked. Please step aside, Next.

I said what did to say to me? She stated, we have no record of your name on the passenger list for this cruise.

I told her that you just signed in my Wife who is listed as secondary in our cabin with me being listed as Primary.

Take a look at my RCI documents showing that I have made final payment and booking is confirmed.

Long story short. Three other employees got involved and they made several phone calls. Finally I was give a cruise card. Process took about 40 minutes.

At the cabin my Wife opened the door with her card and told me she was going to unpack. I said I will get out of your way and I headed up to a bar to obtain a DOD. The bar tender told me my card does not work and I will have to go to Passenger Services desk to obtain a new one.

I headed back to the cabin at which I found out that he card would not open the door. So I knocked. Told the Wife I needed the trip folder so I can prove that I am not a stow away.

At the Passenger Services desk I handed the Clerk the card and she asked where Did I Get that card? How did I get on the ship? I told her my story. She turned to call another employee over and I told her that I wanted to talk to the Hotel Manager. Took some talking to convince them to send for the manager.

One more time I showed my paper work and told my story. Finally I was given a new card.

The next funny thing that happened was that I had two accounts. One time a charge would go to one account and the next time it go to the other account.

So, the moral of this story is to take more then just your smile. If I did not have the RCI documents with us, I could have been standing on the dock waving to the ship as the Wife sailed off into the sun set.

The rest of that Cruise and Land Tour was outstanding.

What an awful way to start a cruise! Did you ever figure out where things went wrong?

We were once identified incorrectly on a cruise, but in a good way. It started with lavish, beautifully wrapped gifts in our cabin. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knew us by name. Champagne (complimentary) every time we sat down. Casino credits, officer luncheons, private parties...wow! We were resting at a bar one afternoon and told the bartender our story of over pampering. He said "it's because you are major stockholders!" Well, that explains a lot, we answered. We didn't let on that we only owned 100 shares! It was quite a cruise but I bet the real major stockholders felt snubbed!

When we went on Allure, my husband forgot to print out the Set Sail pass - he had some other part of the documents listing the reservation number, itinerary, etc. Anyway, when we got to the port, we showed our passports, explained we didn't have the set sail pass. The woman at the port who checks your papers was a bit rude about it and announced to everyone "This is a Set Sail pass." and held up an example of it. I was like, "Yes, I know. Yes, my husband forgot to print it out." So we went through security to the suite check in line and had no problem checking in at all. They just looked up our reservation. Fortunately my husband did not forget our passports. So, all you need is the Set Sail pass and if you don't have that, at least have your reservation number. It is also helpful to have whatever you bought pre-cruise listed so you know when your dinner reservations for specialty dining are and when your shows are on the mega ships that require reservations for shows and what excursions you bought, if any.

Don't bother unless you want scads of useless paper.

If you do print, just print the one sheet with your booking info. We have found the rest to be useless paper that we toss. Why waste the ink and paper?

If they come as an e-mail attachment, just save them as a pdf on your smart phone or tablet.
