Granny1 Posted April 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2016 I have all my chargers in one little bag, question does it have to be put in the checked in luggage or can I put it in my carry-on. Flying Friday:D
OddJob Posted April 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Chargers for ... your cell phone, etc? I always carry those on, too valuable to chance losing. Edited April 12, 2016 by OddJob

diane.in.ny Posted April 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2016 All my electronic and photo gear goes in my carry on including the chargers and batteries
CruiserBruce Posted April 12, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2016 As you may need to charge your equipment on the plane, or in an airport if you get delayed or re-routed, I would take at least one charger in your carry on.
Shmoo here Posted April 12, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2016 I'm the designated "all things electronic" carry on person. Except for the actual little lap top (hubby handles that), I have all the cords, ipods, chargers, ear buds in my carry on.
Granny1 Posted April 12, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks everyone for the replies. It's getting near and I am beginning to panic don't know why as I have flown before but not recently and we all know they change things at the drop of a hat. But thanks for the replies and sorry for all the questions. But I might have a few more before Friday.
crystalspin Posted April 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Hi Granny, No problem with the "obvious" question -- the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, and wish you had! I would keep any charger with me that would compromise the trip without it. That's probably most or all of them or you wouldn't be bringing them! There is also the unplanned need to charge something in an airport. Best to just put them in the bottom of your carryon. There is no TSA or airline rule about check vs. carryon, if that was the root of your OP.
Rare Teeara Posted April 13, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Yes, I would keep mine in my carryon, too. You just never know whose grubby paws will be clawing through your checked luggage looking for anything to steal. And those are necessities nowadays. LA_CA_GAL Posted April 13, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2016 The rule I go by is any luggage I check, I expect to never see it again.
RLBlack Posted April 13, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 13, 2016 I put my chargers, and any cords in a pouch of some type- or in a zip lock bag- the TSA can then see it when going through screening- if they are all over your carry on it can raise questions. They get nervous re loose wires
iahawkfan21 Posted April 14, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 14, 2016 I always travel with my electronics in my carry-on which is usually a backpack. I rarely take my laptop anymore, prefer my iPad. This allows me to take one cord for both iphone and ipad, with another as backup. I do have a small laptop so even if I take it, the laptop and cord don't take up a lot of space. Have never had any issues at airports. That said, the only reason I bring my phone on cruises is for the camera, and my ipad for reading kindle books. I could honestly go a week easily without any electronics and/or internet connectivity, but I completely understand in this day and age I'm in the minority. Enjoy your trip! They get nervous re loose wires We learned this the difficult way, but it had a happy ending because we had plenty of extra time. We had packed the various chargers, earphones, etc., carelessly in a carryon. At TSA, someone got very nervous about what appeared on the x-ray as probably a vipers den of wires and assorted small electronics. We were escorted to a separate area, where ALL of it had to be removed and inspected. Fair enough; better safe than sorry. But now, we coil everything nice and neat! (Of course, it's exactly the same "stuff", but more recognizable, I guess. Plus we now have "known traveler" numbers and Global Entry, so I guess we look less scary or something ;) That was before any of those advance screening programs.) Happened to me too once, but they just me open my bag right by the conveyer belt. Like what are all those cords. And so I showed them.
mooseman52b Posted April 21, 2016 #15 Share Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) To be a bit more specific, put any charger or item you will need quick access to in a purse/backpack/briefcase that you can place under your seat or in the seat back pouch. Sometimes carry-on suitcases will get put in the cargo hold by the airlines when they run out of overhead storage (chances are greater if you are towards the end of the boarding sequence or when flying standby). GottaKnowWhen Posted April 21, 2016 #16 Share Posted April 21, 2016 I have all my chargers in one little bag, question does it have to be put in the checked in luggage or can I put it in my carry-on. Flying Friday:D By now you are gone and probably back. Hope you had a great trip! But I will add my comment for (hopefully) other's benefit. My rule is to never pack anything in checked luggage that will show up as a suspicious blob on the TSA X-ray. If they need to open your bag to check something out, at best stuff gets messed up, at worst the bag gets delayed. So I always carry chargers cords gadgets etc etc. if there is an issue, I am right there to resolve it.
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted April 21, 2016 I always put all of my electronic related equipment in my carry on. Why? Might need it. Could get stolen. Could get broken. Keith

sparky-elpaso Posted April 21, 2016 #19 Share Posted April 21, 2016 I have a "cable stable" from Skooba which holds all of my camera stuff. Phone / tablet / laptop charges are in a zippered make-up bag. I do like the suggestion making sure everything is coiled neatly - I think I'll get some small Ziploc bags to keep things separate this time. Last time we traveled it looked like the cords had come to life and tied themselves in knots. :) And all of this goes in our backpacks just in case carry-ons have to be gate checked for some reason.
