SkyMaster Posted May 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Sounds good to me. I doubt that we'll see any difference in the caliber of entertainment offered in the comedy clubs. ;) Frankly, I never cared too much for George Lopez anyway. "SKY"

Keys2Heaven Posted May 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Don't care either way. But, would like to hear comedians that don't have to rely on the "F" word in an 18+ show, just to get a laugh.
riffatsea Posted May 3, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 3, 2016 DH will be happy! We love the comedy club but he has never liked Lopez! I am sure that comedians can be hired without his help.
kat2009 Posted May 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2016 I think this is a good thing. I've been cruising for a while and I think the comedy definitely got worse when he took over.
brepri_h Posted May 3, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Yeah I don't think it'll matter at all. All it really seemed like is that they were paying to use his name.
beachbum53 Posted May 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Out of all of the comedians to choose from, I always thought it was a bit odd for Carnival to form a partnership with George Lopez. I wonder if one of "the beards" is related to, or a good friend of George?
NewAddict Posted May 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 3, 2016 I wasn't gonna say anything until I realized I wasn't the only one who doesn't really care for George Lopez....but yeah, I'm cool with Carnival's decision.
happy cruzin Posted May 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 3, 2016 http://cruiseradio.net/carnival-ditches-george-lopez-partnership/ Figured this would happen when Carnival developed the new "Entertainment Director" positions - surprised it took this long! But....this article from June 2014 refers to it taking 2 years for those positions to be fleetwide - which pretty much brings us to now!

He mentioned he'd be working in the office in Miami on a special project but did not say what it would be.

The4Cruisers Posted May 3, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Great news! Even seeing his mug on that little video before the comedy shows was irritating. If Carnival has to partner with a comic star, at least find someone with talent!
ShakyBeef Posted May 3, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Cool!:) Lopez is a nasty jerk. I lost my tolerance for him a few years ago and I hated seeing him connected to my cruise vacation experience.

How about a higher percentage that write some material rather than pester someone in the audience or spend half the time in a self degradation mode. . Steve Dore Posted May 3, 2016 #16 Share Posted May 3, 2016 No change. Only thing is Carnival will likely save money by no longer having to pay George Lopez for use of his name/likeness. Although on last cruise, for the first time, there was a comedian that I had heard of before.
Thorncroft Posted May 3, 2016 #17 Share Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) He should've gone before the tablecloths. That would've been funny. Edited May 3, 2016 by Thorncroft
mek Posted May 3, 2016 #18 Share Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) Don't care either way. But, would like to hear comedians that don't have to rely on the "F" word in an 18+ show, just to get a laugh. That pretty much sums up why I don't care for the adult comedy on Carnival. Most of the comedians rely on F bombs to make their material funny, ( I'm not offended by the word at all), and it really isn't very good to begin with. We had an adult comedian on our last cruise who was hysterical and never once used the word. His material was funny, politically incorrect and very adult and I'm sure there were some people who were offended, but it was excellent adult comedy. Carnival needs to get out of the frat boy comedy business and get something better Edited May 3, 2016 by mek
evandbob Posted May 3, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 3, 2016 IMO, the worst comedy on the ship is usually by the Carnival Fun Staff person introducing the comedians. They tell the lamest, most banal and juvenile jokes. I can hear the audience moan with displeasure at their attempts to be funny. They do set the audience up, since any comedian will be better than them.

And for the record, I'm just fine with Carnival ending its relationship with George Lopez. I don't really find him funny at all. However, I almost always enjoy the comedians who perform onboard. deborahjo Posted May 3, 2016 #21 Share Posted May 3, 2016 I agree with several people here. Comedians that have to relay on dropping the F bomb every other sentence is just ridiculous. Hope this improves.
swscruiser Posted May 3, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Finally, personally never attended the comedy shows because of him. I know it didn't make any difference, but would never support in any way anyone who has made the comments he has made over the years.
kona_wahine Posted May 4, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 4, 2016 The only change will be is we won't have to watch the Lopez video before the show. Oh, and carnival won't have to give him anymore money.
