Have fun and enjoy your Princess cruise.

Where in NW La are y'all from? I went to school at NSU (NSC when I was there) in Natchitoches. Saw somebody getting on either the Crown or the Ruby (don't remember whether I saw them on Sat. or Sun.) last week wearing a Natchitoches festival shirt which was a surprise!

hello everyone,is there a secret to getting a balcony cabin at a less expensive rate?:D

The 3 For Free sale (starting Sept 6) free stateroom location upgrade will get you the balcony for the price of the cheapest one.

Free Stateroom Location Upgrade is applicable to voyages and cruise fares advertised in this promotion only, and applies to booking the stateroom location you wish to sail in for the price of the lowest category within that stateroom type during this promotion only. Offer is based on availability in like to like stateroom types (Interior to Interior, Oceanview to Oceanview, Balcony to Balcony). Upgrade offer excludes select categories, including but not limited to premium categories and suites.

I noticed that people were still posting to the Princess Cruise Secrets 2015 thread, so I thought someone should start a separate thread for 2016. I will be going on my first Princess cruise in August so I don't have any secrets to share yet, but I'm an avid reader of the previous Secrets threads and would love to hear some more for 2016.

(Also, if I did this wrong, please feel free to delete this post and start your own Princess Secrets 2016 thread - I just wanted to keep the conversation going)

Can you tell me how to find and get to the Princess Cruise Secrets 2015 thread? Sorry to sound so "green" about this, but your help is appreciated.

I thought everyone knew. Those that don't. Each deck sign shows which way the bow of the ship is. Simply go the direction seen on the sign. These signs are posted at each elevator and show the way forward or aft.

Here is a cruise critic secret that will make reading these forums, and Princess posts, more enjoyable.

You can control how many posts you see per page. I only get a 2nd page when a topic reaches 200 replies. It takes 400+ post to start a 3rd page. This saves time, especially in super long topics, by not having to flip through pages every 20th post.

1) Go to your User CP (user control panel) located at the upper left of this screen. Next, click on Edit Options. Scroll down to find the section where you can increase the posts shown per page. You can choose from 10 to 200.

2) You can turn off seeing everyone's custom signature below each post as well. Just unclick the box that says 'show signatures'. Same directions as above.

Adjusting these two features make for a much more efficient browsing experience on the Cruise Critic forums.

Work smarter, not harder:D

Thanks for the great tip about adjusting the number of posts per page. So much better!

Ok - this is not actually a "secret", but I just found about about the Refer-a-Friend program through Princess (why my travel agent didn't tell me about it is just one of many reasons that I'll never use her again). Any person who has cruised Princess before can refer a person who is a first-time cruiser and then they each get $25 on-board credit which can be used in the following 24 months. This is per person (not per cabin). And, yes, you can do this even if the newbie has already booked their cruise. I was referred by a friend and just got them $50 OBC (for me and my husband) and us $50 OBC. It's easy and fun to get freebies!

Personally, I don't see why any first-time cruiser should cruise Princess without taking advantage of this. Just a thought: if you weren't referred by anyone and don't know of any Princess cruisers you want to give the OBC to, why not consider asking someone who has been helpful to you here on Cruise Critic to refer you? Some people put a great deal of time and energy helping others, posting great reviews, etc. - why not give them some goodies?!

Just my 2 cents . . .

Me and my frind are BOTH first time cruisers with Princess if you want to recommend us .. we would all gain 😀😀😀😀

I would have gladly done a "refer friend" for you and your friend but the details say you must be in the US or Canada.

Sorry.:o

On Celebrity (Solstace class ships) the day of the week is on a panel in the floor of the elevators, I never did catch whoever changes these...

We are looking forward to our first Princess cruise (October 22)...our last cruise on MSC Divina after having been on R/C and Celebrity (15 cruises) was a slight let down, so hoping Princess is better.....

We have been all the same plus other lines..you will like Princess...Our 54th cruise is in 12 days..a t/a 14 night cruise...On the Caribbean Princess which we have been on before. I wasn't impressed with the MSC Divina last month, other than it is a beautiful ship, entertainment was ok, SMALL balcony cabins......the food is better in a NJ diner! We have traveled with Carnival (28 cruises) from when we were in our 40's...never had a bad cruise with them..Itr's all what you are looking for...if you go to Cancun on Spring break...then compare that to a Carnival cruise on Spring break...But., we still go on a Halloween cruise with them...they really get into Halloween..if you don't like Halloween..then I suggest you don't take one at that time of year on Carnival. They are what they advertise...Fun, Fun, Fun ships...and good food with plenty of choices...with no extra fees except their Steak House..which we have compared all the cruise lines steak houses and by far, Carnival has the best! Not that Princess is bad...it is good...just not the best!

I never read through the previous thread and did skim through this thread .. so hopefully, I am not repeating any tips:

You can pre-order bottles of water online at a decent price to be delivered to your room on embarkation day. I think a dozen bottles is around $7 and they will be more costly once you are onboard.

You do not have to know a passenger that is sailing to indulge in the BVE (Bon Voyage Experience) but you will have to secure a registration ahead of time and fill out all the necessary documentation to get your own boarding pass. You can use the price of the BVE and apply it to your next cruise ... you can use more than 1 of these credits off your next cruise. You can also purchase future cruise credits while onboard for the BVE. Only certain ports have the BVE available and only 50 spots are available. Once you've paid, these are non-refundable and non-transferable, though.

A BVE pax is allowed to bring a bottle of wine onboard with them with no corkage fee unless consumed in a public area. So, if the BVE guest is joining a passenger, they can leave that bottle of wine with the sailing passengers.

You are allowed to each bring one 750 ml bottle of wine (up to 2 per cabin) onboard to be consumed in your stateroom, but can also bring unlimited bottles and pay (upfront) a $15 corkage per bottle when you board. They will charge and put a sticker on each bottle beyond your 2 bottle limit and you can consume your stickered bottle anywhere throughout the ship.

Staying on the subject of alcohol, there are usually two happy hour events each day where any cocktails (up to $10) are sold as buy one, get one for $1. The afternoon event gets crowded but they do allow you to buy your drinks and consume them wherever you choose. Be sure to collect your raffle tickets for each round purchased. They raffle off nice prizes the last day of the cruise .... usually more alcohol but we once won a really nice bottle of wine.

Before sail away, there is a tax (depending on the embarkation port) added to your drink bills. Some can be pricey. I am not sure but read somewhere that it may be in any port, not just the embarkation ports. If you purchase a really nice bottle of wine for sail away, you might inquire if they can post the charge once out at sea. Maybe this is not legal ... so scratch that.

The Trident Grill oftentimes has specialty items at dinner time. When up in Alaska, they served crab cakes. Yummmmmmy!!

After your 20th cruise with Princess, a loyalty credit of $25 is added as OBC to your folio. It goes up with every 10 or so cruises after that. It's not widely advertised ... just shows up. If you are sharing a cabin with someone with the last name and/or same address, I believe it is still just $25 per cabin ...not pp.

On many ships, if you take the aft elevators or stairs down to deck 6, you will be stuck and have to go back up to deck 7 to go midship.

When booking, if you are asked if you want an upgrade, should one become available, you can ask for a 'meta' upgrade only. This means that they won't upgrade your location within your same super category but will only upgrade you from an inside to oceanview or better, oceanview to balcony or better, balcony to mini-suite or better.

On the Grand Class ships, only 2 of the aft elevators go up to the top deck. The other two (in the middle) only go up to deck 14 or 15.
