Legend Sailings 2017

Recommended Posts

We are booked on the May 18th 2017 Legend Sailing and it has been showing 'sold out' for some weeks as had quite a few of her previous sailings, about 10 days ago it came back as being available to book, now it is showing 'sold out' again, however when searching for Legend's itineraries before our cruise it has her sailing from Dubai through the Suez Canal to either Barcelona or Venice (cannot remember which) on a 13 nighter from March 13th-26th and then back in Brisbane 5 days later for an Australian itinerary starting on March 31st !!! So we are back to wondering what is going on with our sailing.

All we can do is wait until Royal gets their act together.

I know Bob, but it is so frustrating. Today on the website they have the Rhapsody taking over the Dubai to Venice sailing though a month earlier and then doing the Venice to Venice 7 day Adriatic itineraries, so it looks as though something else is happening to the Legend. Unfortunately we cannot go a month earlier. Thinking caps on again !!!, and I thought I was all sorted out for our 2017 cruises, at least it makes life interesting.

MIAMI, June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE: RCL) announced today that it has entered into an agreement to sell its cruise ship Legend of the Seas to Thomson Cruises in the spring of 2017.

"Since its inaugural sailing, Legend of the Seas has created many wonderful memories for hundreds of thousands of guests, and we expect this successful history to continue as she transitions to Thomson Cruises," said Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. "While she will be missed, her transition supports Double-Double and our objective of moderate capacity growth."

Legend of the Seas' final sailing will commence on March 13, 2017, and all officers and crew will remain with the company and will be transferred to other vessels worldwide after the ship leaves the Royal Caribbean International fleet. This transaction will result in an immaterial gain which will be recognized upon delivery of the ship.

Legend of the Seas joined the Royal Caribbean International fleet in 1995, and was built by Chantier's de L'Atlantique, now STX France, in St. Nazaire, France. The 69,130-gross-registered-tons ship carries 1,832 guests (double occupancy) and 726 crew.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE: RCL) is a global cruise vacation company that owns Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Pullmantur, Azamara Club Cruises and CDF Croisières de France, as well as TUI Cruises through a 50 percent joint venture. Together, these six brands operate a combined total of 47 ships with an additional twelve on order. I cannot believe that when I booked my Legend cruise on Ovation only 4 weeks ago that they weren't already in advanced negotiations for this. What a way to run a business and to treat its customers

Exactly, we are still waiting to hear that our cruise has been cancelled, as are thousands of others - yes thousands - since this affects about 9 cruises on Legend, as well as sailings on Vision and Rhapsody which are being used to replace Legend in the Med. Poor poor show RC, shame on you.

There was a notice on their (Australian) Facebook page today saying if you were on one of the cancelled cruises you can switch to another cruise, get OBC and $300 towards flights to Sydney if needed

Dear President Bayley,

What an idiotic decision to sell Legend and bring back Empress!

Your lack of planning in this regard is a real head-shaker.

The message posted on RCI facebook page

"Dear Guests and Friends,

We would like to inform you Royal Caribbean has entered into an agreement to sell Legend of the Seas in 2017.

Regrettably, the sale of Legend of the Seas will result in the cancellation of five of her Brisbane departures, while redeploying a sixth cruise to bring forward her repositioning from Brisbane to Asia. The 20 February 2017 departure will now see the ship reposition to Singapore over 11 nights, with overnights in Cairns and Darwin. This will mark Legend of the Seas’ final Australian sailing as she repositions to Europe for delivery to her new owner.

Rhapsody of the Seas, will transition from New Jersey to Europe in order to undertake a range of like European itineraries. Vision of the Seas will then transition to Cape Liberty, New Jersey, where she will undertake four like itineraries to those planned for Rhapsody of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean will assist affected guests in securing an alternative Royal Caribbean cruise or for those who would rather cancel; we will provide a full refund of any deposits paid.

For those who choose to re-book on to an alternate Royal Caribbean cruise, we will provide additional bonus onboard credits and we will be discussing hotel and flight arrangements with affected guests.

Guests who booked on cancelled Brisbane sailings, who choose to rebook on selected Sydney sailings are also eligible for a $300 pp credit towards flights.

If you are affected and have booked through a Travel Agent, unfortunately we do not have your contact details. Please contact your Travel Agent as they have important information around alternative options. If you have booked directly with us, we have emailed you with important information about your cruise.

As Legend of the Seas sale has just been announced we wanted to make everyone aware of these immediate changes.

We are truly sorry to disrupt our guests' holidays and apologise for the inconvenience caused."

What a mess. I am sorry your plans, along with thousands of others, have been disrupted. Add this to the Empress refurb fiasco with two months of cruises cancelled with just a few days notice for some sailings and the Rhapsody cancellations and redeployment. Less than three months ago the Rhapsody's 2017 transatlantic was cancelled , an entire new summer 2017 season was created and booked, only now to be changed back to a Mediterranean redeployment. It really makes me wonder what is going on at the top with this corporation.

I am so disappointed! Our fall 2016 Rhapsody TA was cancelled, which we booked specifically to see Lanzarote. Now our Legend, which we booked to see Petra, and Vision, which we booked to see Porto, also gone. I am unlucky to be in love with the less travelled ports because they're evidentally the first to meet the chopping block.

I loved the Legend. It was a small ship but it just made it that much more intimate. We did a TransAtlantic on her a few years back and it was one of my favorite cruises. But, alas, it's all business these days and "progress" as they say. Bye bye Legend :(
