Vista regrets.....(just whining)

All of our cruises have been with Carnival so it's all that we have known but I am starting to have second thoughts about them after reading some of these posts. With the continuous cutbacks to service and higher fees and prices I wonder if I'm missing out on something better.

I am booked for Vista 6/2017 but I now wish that I had booked on one of the RC Oasis class ships. I feel this way because it appears that on Vista I will be getting much of the same that we always get but for a higher price. I guess that's why I keep going back to Carnival because it's so comfortable and predictable.

There are 13 of us traveling ( 7 adults and 6 children ) so I guess we'll have to wait until 2018 to try RC.

I book for the itinerary. I absolutely couldn't care less what ship I'm on. I only sailed Vista because of the inaugural itinerary (and mainly to see Ephesus and it was cancelled).

And although I rarely "do" the activities on board after 25 Carnival cruises in 15 years, I'm pretty bored. I booked the 1/2/17 Pride Journeys cruise because of the itinerary (partial Canal transit) and to use my Milestone OBC, then the plan was to branch out.

But I booked a Premier casino cruise this morning! I just couldn't stop myself. After those two, I'll only need 16 days to be Diamond.

So I really want some new/different experiences, but Carnival keeps pulling me back.

I liked the ship. Unfortunately, we had only 3 sea days so I really didn't get to spend a lot of time investigating all the venues. But I liked her.

Other than Vista, Splendor is the newest ship I've sailed. I haven't the other three because every time I price a cruise, they're more expensive for the same itinerary as others. And it costs more to fly to the other ports than to FL. And, personally, I have no desire to sail from Texas.

You're so far out from your Vista cruise, you can cancel without penalty (unless you booked ES, which I never do because I hate restrictions). If you're having buyer's remorse, go ahead and cancel and book another line. Eventually, Vista won't be the big, new, shiny ship and the prices will moderate. Eventually. And if you aren't impressed with the other cruiselines, you can sail her then.

I am coming back to Carnival after a few years with RCI. Cutbacks are happening on all mass market cruise lines. The Oasis Class ships are amazing though, I love the Allure, but I am looking forward to the Vista. Now you have something to look forward to in 2018.

Don't be loyal to any one cruise line. Go where the best deal and cruise are for you. In the end cruise lines don't really give two shi+s about you nor should you them. The Vista out of Miami ( I'm booked) isn't a great deal comparatively speaking.

You can't do a fair comparison of price between a new ship which is currently the largest in the fleet with an older, smaller ship. The operation costs alone for the Vista are more than a ship like the Imagination. That's just one of many reasons why it costs more to cruise on the Vista. The same would be true for RCL's Oasis of the Seas vs. one of their older, smaller ships. When planning a vacation, whether it's a cruise or land-based vacation, choose the best you can afford based on your budget. If you want to cruise on the newest, biggest, prettiest ship in the fleet, whichever cruise line it may be, plan ahead for it. Set up a vacation fund with your bank or credit union. All of the mass market cruise lines make cutbacks or changes here and there, not just Carnival. But don't dwell on that. Keep your focus on what you ARE getting for your money, not what you AREN'T getting.

Yea, carnival is like a Comfortable old shoe. I'm thinking about a new pair. I was wishing for the vista but I've been watching some of JHs videos and it looks like every other carnival ship. I'd like to try something different.

with only 2000 double occupancy pax on Imagination and 3900 double occupancy on Vista they have twice as many paying pax than on Imagination and with newer technology i would bet that the cost of running the ships are close to even.

That's one of the reasons the cruise lines no longer build smaller ships.:)

If you go the RCCL boards and NCL you find their regulars all complaining about cutbacks or nickel and diming them. It is true, as in most other businesses, that they are all cutting back.

That said, after being Platinum for 2 cruises now, I am trying the Allure of the Seas and an NCL ship this year. I do know that the entertainment is incredible on the Allure compared to Carnival. What I fully expect to happen after this is that I will be back to Carnival! Even though prices go up, they go up on the other lines too, still possibly making Carnival the best value. And I know the early embarking and debarking is worth a lot IMO.

Sometimes I think the anticipation of a trip or cruise is as much fun as the actual trip. If you are really dreading your decision of the Vista I hope you can cancel and try something else. If you decide to go with it, be happy and enjoy your anticipation. I am sure it will be great!

It's true that most (if not all) cruise lines are making changes or cutbacks. But I've learned that the best way to minimize their impact is to try as many cruise lines as possible and to avoid repeating the same one two times in a row. That way everything feels fresh and new, and you don't feel the cutbacks as much because simply you don't know how things "used to be".

I visited the Princess and Holland America boards frequently in preparation for my first cruises on those lines, and several of their frequent cruisers wrote how disappointed I'd be with all the cutbacks, that the product wasn't what it once was, that it was a "Wal mart" product now, blah blah blah (sounds familiar?). Well, long story short, they were fantastic cruises and I would've never known about cutbacks unless someone had told me. In fact I now rank Princess as one of my favorite.

So I encourage anyone feeling like they need a change to try a new cruise line. It's fun! And you can always go back to Carnival if you realize that you still prefer them. [emoji3]

It doesn't seem to mater which line, if you go to the forum for that line they are "talking" about all the cut backs.

We had only sailed Carnival and have always enjoyed it. We were tired of the itineraries so started looking around. We ended up booking on HAL. We were a bit more than anxious because Carnival was so familiar and comfortable for us. Lots of angst building up before the HAL cruise.

Well that cruise was last February and we survived and had a good time. While HAL was different we had a good time and it was fun to be the young people on the cruise (I am 58) :). Also we didn't notice any cut backs.

Of course we were back on Carnival in May and will be on Carnival yet again in October. I am guessing the biggest shock for us will be January 2016 when will be on the Oceania Riviera for 10 days.

Are there specific "cutbacks" related to the Vista that you may have been expecting? We're doing the Vista this coming January and the Oasis the following year. DW tried RCCL this past spring and loved it. I'm a bit concerned she was "spoiled" because, by "hook or crook" she wound up in the "Ben and Jerry Sweet" and had all sorts of perks not available to regular RCCL cruisers. But I'm glad she's willing to move away from the only Carnival mentality.

Yes but European cruises are generally cheap due to the expensive airfare. Her cruise is out of Miami so not an apples to apples comparison. The Vista prices for 2017 are very high and climbing each day. I only paid $9 more for our four person (2 kids) inside Cloud 9 Spa cabin on deck 11 then what a standard inside on deck 6 goes for right now on our 8 day next year as of today.

I think it's just perspective. We got off the Vista 2 weeks ago and she is an amazing ship. This was our first CCL cruise after 4 cruises on Disney, 3 of which were Dream class ships, I couldn't believe we actually liked Vista more. We're booked on her again next June for an 8 night Southern Caribbean, for 4 of us in 2 insides it's only $5200 including gratuity and insurance. The same week on the Disney Fantasy for a 7 night Eastern Caribbean for the same 2 rooms is over $10,000. I'm becoming a big fan of Carnival.

You might consider letting others pay that sticker shock for the newbie in the fleet. I waited until the Allure and Oasis prices dropped before booking them, and the ship was still shiny and new;)

The Oasis class are amazing ships, but it is a very different sailing experience. So I suggest giving RCL a try as the Vista will still be there and likely not at a premium price

I already booked the Vista, we'll just hope for the best.

Every time I see these price-whining threads I post this:

First cruise on Carnival, a 7 day Mexican Riviera on the Tropicale around 1985 paid $599 DO inside cabin. Booked on a Breeze cruise in October, $429 DO inside. That's over 30 years, folks !

These were my thoughts after we booked. I'm sure it will be great but I can't wait for RC in 2018.
