Smoking banned in casino on Indy

Recommended Posts

I don't do either, but you are OK with only smokers can gamble?

I wish the casino was designed to isolate the smoke on one side so non-smokers could have a smoke free gambling experience, but that is not reality yet. Maybe divide it in half, put up a wall and have an identical set of gambling machines and tables per side, and put a bar on the non-smoking side, too. Or maybe not allow it in the casino.

But until that happens. since the cruise line permits smoking in one side the casino, I don't blame the smokers for being there and I avoid being in the casino except for short times.

The smoke in there is actually controlled very well. It's doable for non-smokers....at least I felt that way. Everyone, smokers and non-smokers, were having a good time!

I go in there and I am not particularly sensitive to smoke but the last couple of cruises (Jewel and Voyager) it was not controlled well at all. I often found myself moving to a different slot to escape the smoke. People seemed to be smoking throughout the casino not in particular areas.

I agree (from personal experience) that smoking is very difficult to quit. I also agree that there should be an indoor place to smoke for those who need to(although it is banned indoors in most of Australia). However, why should non-smokers (or ex-smokers) have to breath in the smoke in the casino and have it pollute their clothes when it is difficult or expensive to get them cleaned onboard. I don't judge smokers at all but I also don't think that having all smokers gather in the casino is a good idea. It concentrates the damage in a place where people who don't smoke also gather. Perhaps there should be a resurgence of the cigar rooms which also cater for smokers just as there are smoking rooms in many airports in Asia.

Finally somebody with a positive solution to the problem. It is an excellent idea to have a cigar lounge on every ship. I just hope that the cigarette smokers don't take it over and keep it neat. You know, us cigar smokers are a classy bunch! (I have to go get some more popcorn. Flame on!)

No flame from me. I enjoy a good cigar and cocktail on occasion so I was little disappointed when Royal stopped building cigar lounges. They even killed it at night on the Oasis Class suite deck.

They did away with cigar smoking on the Oasis class? I thought that was the perfect place to smoke! We never bothered anyone up there! And most importantly there was a bar! I guess I'll just have to stick with Voyager class and Freedom class. I guess it won't be long before the "Smoke ****s" do away with my cigar lounge!

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. That word that Cruise Critic refuses to print starts with "N", ends with "S", and has "azi" in the middle. I'll probably get flamed for that!!!

Important Update – Smoking Policy

All indoor public spaces are now smoke-free on all ships with the exception of those sailing in Asia. Smoking is not permitted in any interior space, including but not limited to restaurants, theatre, bars, lounges, corridors, elevators, staterooms and stateroom balconies. Violations of the smoking policy will result in $250 cleaning charges to the guest’s onboard account and may also be addressed through the cruise line’s Guest Conduct Policy, details of which are available both online and in all staterooms.

Guests wishing to smoke may still do so in the Casino, the Connoisseur Club on select ships, and on the starboard side of all ships’ outer decks, except near food venues, children’s pool and play areas, the jogging track, and the Central Park or Boardwalk neighbourhoods on Oasis Class ships. Visible signage will direct guests to designated smoking areas. Electronic cigarettes or e‐cigarettes will be permitted within the designated smoking areas only.

They are going to start doing away with the cigar lounges on Voyager class this fall when Adventure loses the Connoisseur Club during her dry dock.

I agree! I was on Carnival Conquest in June last year, the smokers had the whole casino bar. They were smoking one after the other and no gambling at anytime! When will the cruise lines wake up and smell the smoke! No smoking

anywhere indoors, on our ships!

They tried it ...... it failed.

Not sure who made the comment on percentage but it's actually about 15% of American adults that's smoke now not 20. And dropping.... You are a dying breed thankfully. Pun intended. So gross.

I agree it would be much more enjoyable if it were banned. I would definitely be using the casino more.

The above quote shows smoking still allowed in casino, is this now out of date?

It appears to be inaccurate, at least for Indy this season.

Well how unusual for the UK website to be out of date!!! Up to a few months ago the C&A UK home page was proudly announcing a "new era of dining" on Quantum class. That part has now been updated so maybe by next summer they'll update the smoking policy. Funny we haven't heard the same thing about Navigator which is also sailing from Southampton.

I think the casino smoking policy is something that the particular ship's management can change if they like. I remember years ago when most ships had a non-smoking night in the casino, there were still some ships that didn't have a non-smoking night.

Let me start by saying that I agree, smoking shouldn't be allowed in the casino. There are places where it's allowed and will not offend people (unless, of course, they want to be offended!) I was a police officer for 37 years. I know there are certain people that are not happy unless they're complaining. There are some people that are not satisfied unless everyone is doing things their way. It's just the way of the world. That's why I like the cigar lounge idea. Everyone in there is in there to smoke. Nobody is forced to go in there or even walk through. It should have a good ventilation system. A full serve bar wouldn't hurt either. I like my cigar and cognac, but not at the expense of hearing people complain about it. So, for the time being, stay out of the cigar lounge unless you're in there to smoke. And if you do come in and want to light up, I'll always have an extra cigar for you!

Elvis

Sorry if anyone was offended by the "****" comment I made in a previous post. I did not mean to offend anyone. I just want to say, though, if you don't want to be called a **** you shouldn't act like one.

More like BORE33 !!

Your posts are very rude, Fun33 just expressed his opinion that I agree with.

Go ahead and smoke, you will be charged a $250 clean up fee. Do it again and you may be removed from the ship.

Well his "nasty selfish" person used to smoke 3 packs a day. Giving up smoking was one of the most difficult (and rewarding) things I have ever done. There is nothing politically incorrect about not wanting to kill myself with nicotine.

I'm simply saying, cruising would be a much more enjoyable experience for the 90% of us who choose not to smoke if it were banned completely.

It was announced today on the news smoking is down 13 % in the USA or around that. So I can't wait till the casino on ships ban it. Ohio has a ban in bars and casinos and guess what people find places to smoke else where .

It is nice not having smoke in my face while there.

We skip the Detroit casinos and go on to Windsor for the reason alone.

I'm an ex smoker too, many of us are. I went cold turkey when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I am now smoke and cancer free.

Congrats to you for giving it up. I literally hate the smell and now it stings my eyes to the point that I can't even see with the weeping. I must be allergic!

It's an awful shame .......

I put up with RCI "HIKED" prices, lack of lovely formal nights and loads of people's kids so I can go on their ships and smoke in the casino, while the non smokers have 98% of the ship.

I don't think I'll be using them again.

And how bad ....... the Asians can smoke, but not the rest of the world lol .....
