Smoking banned in casino on Indy

On the Allure, the Casino Bar was in the smoking section.

 

We had two mornings when the weather was cloudy and it cleared off about noon. Both days many smokers went to the casino for a place to smoke indoors.

 

I think this is how it will be. There is no other place to smoke indoors.

 

I just view the casino as a place that I don't spend much time in.

I assume you are referring to the casino, as there are outside smoking areas on all Celebrity ships.

As soon as smokers realise how hated they are how disgusting the habit is and how bad it is for everybody who's with them and themselves they might understand why people react the way they do. Blow smoke anywhere near me and people are likely to get hurt. I consider it an assault on my health. Fair game to respond in kind

That being said, I know it's disgusting and harmful. But it's also not illegal as stupid as it may be. The more and more they keep taking away spots to smoke at, the more crowded the smoking areas will be. There were 3 spots to smoke on the Allure-a small section on deck 15, an even smaller section on deck 16, and the Casino. Every single night the casino was packed with smokers. It was actually even uncomfortable for me being a smoker. I don't have a solution for it and I get why people don't like it, but I also don't like posts like that implying that smokers are simply bad people.

I agree that smokers are not simply bad people. My brother smoked for 40 years and he is a great guy and he was a courteous smoker.

 

If you are smoking in a smoking area, it is up to me to avoid the area if I do not want to breathe smoke.

The reason I feel that it needed to be said is because people in general FAR TOO OFTEN use the excuse of an allergy when in fact they DO NOT actually have one!!

 

If you do not like something or can not be around it then don't be. But don't use the excuse that you "Have an Allergy" when in fact you simply don't want to be around smoke!

 

People who have actual Life Threatening Allergies will thank you for correcting your choice of words.

 

 

 

When cigarette smoke causes someone's asthma to flare up and they have an attack and CANNOT BREATHE, I think that counts as life threatening.

Has anyone else seen confirmation of this, checked the usual Royal FB page and saw nothing. Hopefully someone on Indy can confirm soon.

 

The no smoking started on May 1st. We were on the T/A, went to the Casino for a cigarette, no ash trays anywhere. I asked the bartender if I could have a cigarette, I was told, as from that day, there was no smoking in the Casino. Not all the staff new about this 'new rule'. I do believe there was the odd night that smoking was allowed in there. :confused:

Was on the Indy from Southampton June 4th sailing and there was no smoking whatsoever in the casino, we actually went in there this time because of that, whereas we've never bothered before as it was everywhere. Still the normal spots on Deck 4 and 11 in place.

As a non-smoker, I actually welcomed the smoke smell in the casino on Anthem....for some reason it gave the place a "partying" atmosphere. I think that's because I'm playing in a band on weekends and it's all part of the venues I play at....I feel bad for the smokers and think it should be allowed in the casinos. Smoking is very difficult to quit, so hat's off to you smokers, you should at least have that place to have a cigarette.

I don't judge smokers at all but I also don't think that having all smokers gather in the casino is a good idea. It concentrates the damage in a place where people who don't smoke also gather. Perhaps there should be a resurgence of the cigar rooms which also cater for smokers just as there are smoking rooms in many airports in Asia.

I agree with you here. Normally I am disappointed with over use of the word 'allergic' but I think you have a good point. Asthma is a fine example of the body having an inappropriate immune system / inflammatory over-reaction to something which would not cause such a reaction: an 'allergic reaction' is apt.

 

And since it is a histamine mediated response in some asthmatics, it is technically an allergy, The classic treatment for allergy is an antihistamine, epinephrine and steroids, which is how an acute phase response of an asthma exacerbation is treated.

Even that may not be for long. That lounge is scheduled to be turned into a card room/library on Adventure later this year.

The smoke in there is actually controlled very well. It's doable for non-smokers....at least I felt that way. Everyone, smokers and non-smokers, were having a good time!

No way, these days I cannot stand it, as it sets off my sinuses, my wife suffers with migraine and smoke is one of the triggers, see can smell it at 100 paces :)

 

I remember the bad old days in the UK, when pubs here were so full of smoke, my eyes were steaming with tears, (I have not been a smoker) but must have consumed many 1000s with passive smoking

 

It's so good to have no smoking in side theses days any where in UK

This is how my doctor has explained it to me as well - since it causes my sinuses to flare and my eyes to water, it is an allergy and is treated with an antihistamine.

 

True - it's not life threatening, but most allergies are not.

I sure hope this goes feet-wide! I have not been in one of the casinos in more than a decade because I just can't stand the smoke. I know I am in good company with those wishes.

 

Same here. Mom and step-dad love playing in the casino, but won't step foot in there at all.

We went to the casino and gambled one afternoon. We went to the casino to smoke every day of the cruise though.

 

It was the only place you could smoke and order a drink.

 

Outlaw it everywhere but 2 spots on the ship and guess what, everyone is going to congregate and smoke in those 2 spots. Not hard to figure out. Over 20% of Americans are smokers. That's a lot of business they lose out on if they outlaw it on ships completely.

 

Imagine if they said "Hispanics and multi-racial people are banned from all ships". That's the same % of Americans as smokers...

 

But hey, they run a business I'm sure they know more than I do.

 

They would not lose any business if they banned smoking. Those smokers that are serious gamblers would still gamble in between smoking breaks taking outside. More non-smokers who would never gamble would now be gambling.

 

I would say allowing it on the balconies, but not the casino would be a fair trade. I don't smoke and have never been bothered by it on balcony when it was allowed. I thought it was just millennial's who are over-sensitive, but I guess not.

Absolutely not. It would not be a fair trade off. I like my balconies for many reasons. One is to go out there and enjoy the FRESH AIR while I am reading, napping, morning coffee or whatever else I want to do. It's my own little sanctuary. Having smokers around me would totally ruin it. If they want to gamble with their life that's their peragotive, but not with mine. I have had people smoking on the balcony near mine and I have reported it if I smell it. If I see it and don't smell it then I don't care.

Agree with you, Renee. The non-smoking casinos on Celebrity ships are packed - no business lost there!
