Smoking banned in casino on Indy

Recommended Posts

I'm Sorry to hear that you can't enjoy Casino Time while Cruising. However I can say that you are NOT allergic to smoke as it is not an allergen. You may have a sensitivity to smoke as it is an irritant, but definitely not an allergy.

I think you might be confusing an allergy to things when eaten vs other types of allergies.

One real problem they created is when they put the smoking ban in place, which I am totally in favor of, and half of the casino. smoking was then confined to outside decks. The big problem that we noticed on the last two ships , in the casino there are groups around the big ashtrays sometimes three to four , mostly in day times, who are not using the casino for machines or tables, but just light them up, smoke and then walk off to other part of ship. I counted 17 smokers on the jewel one morning in April, not at the machines or table but just around the big brass ashtrays for a smokeoff.

I agree! I was on Carnival Conquest in June last year, the smokers had the whole casino bar. They were smoking one after the other and no gambling at anytime! When will the cruise lines wake up and smell the smoke! No smoking

anywhere indoors, on our ships!

I'm not sure why this reply is necessary. What you're saying is a technicality really. I have asthma - smoke causes my asthma to flare. It's much easier to tell people that I'm allergic to smoke, because they understand that.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to correct someone when they say they are "allergic to smoke".

I agree with you here. Normally I am disappointed with over use of the word 'allergic' but I think you have a good point. Asthma is a fine example of the body having an inappropriate immune system / inflammatory over-reaction to something which would not cause such a reaction: an 'allergic reaction' is apt.

Whilst technically not a true allergy smoke has some very real unpleasant effects on some people.

No. No Mistake Made. You can only be allergic to things that are allergens. Things that are irritants you can NOT be allergic to.

The reason I feel that it needed to be said is because people in general FAR TOO OFTEN use the excuse of an allergy when in fact they DO NOT actually have one!!

If you do not like something or can not be around it then don't be. But don't use the excuse that you "Have an Allergy" when in fact you simply don't want to be around smoke!

People who have actual Life Threatening Allergies will thank you for correcting your choice of words.

I actually have pages full of allergies thank you very much and someone saying they are allergic smoke actually doesn't register AT ALL.

Again, I don't see the necessity for correcting this on a CRUISE message board. I'm sure if someone wanted medical information they'd go to their DR or another website.

I will continue to say I'm allergic to smoke. Have a great day!

We went to the casino and gambled one afternoon. We went to the casino to smoke every day of the cruise though.

It was the only place you could smoke and order a drink.

Outlaw it everywhere but 2 spots on the ship and guess what, everyone is going to congregate and smoke in those 2 spots. Not hard to figure out. Over 20% of Americans are smokers. That's a lot of business they lose out on if they outlaw it on ships completely.

Imagine if they said "Hispanics and multi-racial people are banned from all ships". That's the same % of Americans as smokers...

But hey, they run a business I'm sure they know more than I do.

No allergy post here LOL

I'm an ex smoker and I hate the smell...... Having said that, I doubt that a complete smoking ban will happen in the near future. Lots of reasons but the biggest is that many smokers are the true gamblers, likewise spend a lot of money in the casino. After all this is natural to them, since they are gambling that the smoke may or may not ruin their future health.

I think they need to cater to smoker's but put some engineering thought into this.

Put a bar on the tail of the ship (like the great outdoors on NCL) and have a nice relaxing smoking area there. It can be part covered ro the outside and have a big opening into the casino. That way all the smokes off the back of the ship, you can sit at a bar and smoke and if its upstairs from the dining rooms smokers and non smokers alike can congregate in the non smoking casino area or at the back of the ship while waiting for their dining reservations to open.

Im not a smoker and hate the smell but you either have to take it away or think a little about how to integrate.

How is it determined that casino is non smoking on Indy, but not Anthem?

What about Navigator out of Southampton?

Is this known before sailing?

On our recent Canary Islands cruise on the Navigator out of Southampton I can assure you that smoking was allowed in the casino. It's the reason why we did not enter the casino for the whole cruise.

I have witnessed the same thing on a few cruises and I am very vocal about it on my post cruise survey. I also re,I don't them that I do not step foot in their casinos for that reason.

I would say allowing it on the balconies, but not the casino would be a fair trade. I don't smoke and have never been bothered by it on balcony when it was allowed. I thought it was just millennial's who are over-sensitive, but I guess not.

I'm not sure I call someone with asthma being over sensitive. It doesn't take very long before I get severe headaches and have breathing issues when around smoke. So while you might not mind it on your balcony, I would.

The whole of Europe does fine with it banned. Its only your smoking lobby that keeps it alive for you and who do you think they care about? Your health or their money?

Most of Australia bans smoking inside. Smoking in cars when children are in the car is also banned in many states and smoking near a playground is also banned in some states.

I used to be an addicted smoker years ago and became used to smoking outside in all sorts of weather (including below freezing).

I am so glad that I gave up for the health reasons but also now because a packet of 20 cigarettes now costs more than $20 and is set to rise to above $40.

A pack a day cruiser could easily afford many luxurious cruises for that price! ($40 X 365 = $14,600)

I too can't stand it when people use the casino solely for their smoking lounge...even when it's closed! That should be banned...

Celebrity banned all smoking fleet wide and everyone thought it would hurt business. NOPE. Opposite happened. Seems the non smokers tend to have more money and now they can gamble without the nuisance of smoke.

As soon as smokers realise how hated they are how disgusting the habit is and how bad it is for everybody who's with them and themselves they might understand why people react the way they do. Blow smoke anywhere near me and people are likely to get hurt. I consider it an assault on my health. Fair game to respond in kind

I assume you are referring to the casino, as there are outside smoking areas on all Celebrity ships.
