Which Rule(s)/Practice(s) would you like to see changed on your Carnival Cruise

Recommended Posts

I re-stacked the countdown clocks to 2 across. Hope that helps?

Never noticed on my 26" monitor, and they stack single file on my cell phone which does not have a large screen.

I'm needlessly annoyed at mooseman because he has so many cruises booked!

I would like to see children supervised by their parents and not running around the ship carefree and occasionally annoying. I would like to see no chair hogs allowed. And it is my understanding that the Paradise did not stay smoke free because they could not keep adequate non smoking personnel. FYI- Less than 15% of the population now smoke for for heaven's sake make the casino SMOKE FREE.

Its in your cabin and called the toilet.

That is really uncalled for. The poster was just expressing what she would wish. That is the stated purpose of this thread, regardless of the various tangents that it has taken.

From Wikipedia, which granted, can be disputed:

History[edit]

Carnival Paradise was built to be the world's first completely non-smoking cruise ship and she was entered into service supported by several anti-smoking and cancer-prevention groups. "No smoking" signs were placed prominently on both sides of the ship and on the stern under the name.

Non-smoking rules were strictly enforced. No smoking materials of any kind were permitted aboard. If anything was seen or found, the passenger was fined $250 and put off at the next port (transportation home to be provided at passenger's own expense). Due to poor revenue, Carnival decided to discontinue the smoke-free ship in December 2003 because they claimed that non-smokers tend to not drink or gamble as much as those accustomed to smoke.[6]

So, back to the original poster's comment about shorts. As long as they are allowed (and they currently are), we will wear them.

Following is the dress code in the Main Dining Room(s) for both men and women and pertains to children as well:

Cruise Casual Dress Code

Men: sport slacks, khakis, Jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long) and collared polo shirts

Women: summer dresses, casual skirts, pants, capris, dress shorts, Jeans (no cut-offs) blouses and tops

Not permitted: Cut-off Jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, tee-shirts, gym or basketball shorts, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire

Cruise Elegant Dress Code

Men: dress slacks, dress shirts, and we also suggest a sport coat; men may also wish to wear a suit and tie or tuxedo

Women: Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; ladies may also wish to wear an evening gown

Not permitted: Jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, shorts, tee-shirts, sportswear, gym or basketball shorts, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire

I never claimed shorts weren't allowed in MDR on Casual night....I said if something could be changed, it would be a rule of no shorts in the MDR, that's all....just an opinion

Yeah bring back the European deck!

If I could just add something....not everyone needs to be going topless. There has to be a vote, say 70% of the people on the deck to first approve who should be topless and who shouldn't :D

With regard to a Non-Smoking ship ... the sad fact is that smokers SPEND MORE MONEY on Gambling in the casino (which is why the casino will NEVER be non-smoking) and smokers also spend more on Booze ... which is why that ill-fated non-smoking ship failed.

I smoked for 30 years and quit almost a year ago - so I can see both sides.

I don't understand WHY PEOPLE CARE what anyone WEARS to the MDR? I've been on two cruises this year and I honestly NEVER noticed if someone was wearing shorts, a ball cap, ripped jeans ... as long as they are not naked, let me in to eat. Really, who cares? YOU ARE ON VACATION PEOPLE :)

The rule I would like changed: Allowing me to bring 16oz Monster Energy Drinks onboard, instead of having to bring Red Bulls (which I don't like as much) cause red bull comes in 12OZ!!!!

Cheers,

Jeff aka Recovery Dude

I'm not trying to debate your point as I have heard that very same thing - that smokers gamble more. But how is it that Celebrity gets away with having their casinos entirely smoke free and seem to be doing well? One used to be able to argue that their rates were higher to make up for any potential loss, but it seems that Carnival's pricing lately has been pretty close to theirs in many cases.

I am truly curious if anyone knows the real answer because I don't.

To your question of why Celebrity implemented their rules of no smoking in the casino, I am with you, couldn't tell you....I would be willing to bet, if they should start losing $$$$, they will reverse that rule in a heartbeat

Well it's been around since either 2009 or 2011. I can't remember exactly when but I do know that it was either my second cruise on the Solstice or Eclipse because the casino still smelled like smoke and it was the second time for me on that ship. They seem to be doing fine in the money department from what I can tell.

My question is if there is a direct correlation to amount of money spent in the casino in regards to smokers vs nonsmokers, how does Celebrity make it work when other lines either have failed at it or are too afraid to try? Or maybe it's just a matter of not wanting to tick off smokers? I don't know.

It should also be noted that since that time California has outlawed smoking in all public facilities including bars and yet these facilities seem to do a booming business despite this rule.

Yes, many places have banned smoking in public places, and personally I think that's a good thing. But the difference is, at any time you can walk out of a bar and smoke. You can't walk off of a ship and smoke any time you want.

IMO they have it built into their pricing model. They look for profits in other ways to compensate for lower revenue in casinos.

Another major factor in the failure of the Paradise as a smoke free ship was the fact that (aside from the lung cancer and emphysema groups) they could not book groups on the cruise because odds are, there is at least one (or more) smokers in the group. Combine this with low alcohol and casino revenue, it was not sustainable... I sailed many times when she was smoke free, the bars were usually empty casino too, LOTS of families and the prices to sail on her was dirt cheap!

Maybe because Celebrity has a different class of people and Princess too. On Princess there's some nights that are smoke free in the casino. Princess also has a smoker's lounge called Churchill Lounge and it gets well used. Carnival doesn't have such a lounge.

That was 13 years ago - a lot has changed since then, and I bet many people have either died or quit smoking. However, I don't see Carnival going to a smoke free ship again.

What "class" would that be? [emoji848]

I didn't know they had such a place. Perhaps if they had one of those, the smokers would go in there and the casino might be a little more bearable for everyone. I'm sure the smokers don't enjoy having to go to the casino huddled around the smoking half of the bar or sit at a slot just to have a puff.

Perhaps Carnival would be doing everyone a service by making a lounge like that so that there is an alternate place for them to go if they didn't want to go outside for whatever reason.

Here's a youtube video of the Churchill Lounge. It's quite classy. You can smoke cigars in there and cigarettes, pipe. Has a nice bar but I don't dare go in there and no reason for me to. If Carnival wants to get "classy" they can put one of these in. However, cigarette smoking is still allowed in the casino. Saves me from losing money.:D
