Which Rule(s)/Practice(s) would you like to see changed on your Carnival Cruise

Recommended Posts

Here's a youtube video of the Churchill Lounge. It's quite classy. You can smoke cigars in there and cigarettes, pipe. Has a nice bar but I don't dare go in there and no reason for me to. If Carnival wants to get "classy" they can put one of these in. However, cigarette smoking is still allowed in the casino. Saves me from losing money.:D

That is so much nicer than the newer ones on Princess Royal and Regal. those are like smoking in a broom closet.

MSC Divina also has a beautiful enclosed indoor smoking room/bar and the casino is smoke free.

Carnival used to have indoor enclosed smoking rooms but they have been phased out.

I didn't know they had such a place. Perhaps if they had one of those, the smokers would go in there and the casino might be a little more bearable for everyone. I'm sure the smokers don't enjoy having to go to the casino huddled around the smoking half of the bar or sit at a slot just to have a puff.

Perhaps Carnival would be doing everyone a service by making a lounge like that so that there is an alternate place for them to go if they didn't want to go outside for whatever reason.

Carnival did have such a place. A nice Cigar Bar. Lousy ventilation. The non smokers complained. So it went away. The smokers then moved to the Jazz bar and the Piano Bar. The non smokers complained. So they went away. The smokers started booking more balconies. The non smokers complained. Now they all hang out in one small indoor area in the Casino. Maybe they should have just ponied up for better ventilation in the Cigar Bar?

This way no one is happy.

I venture to say that not all, but most non smokers deep down don't want any smoking on any ship they would be on. They really don't want a smoking section at all

I liked the one for lunch in the MDR everyday. I especially enjoy lunch in MDR on embarkation day when a cruise line offers it (NCL, Princess). If Carnival offered it on embarkation day I'd skip the Lido. I try to go to the MDR whenever it is open.

It also gets more use because the Casino is smoke free on Elegant Nights.Casino air on those nights is stale but breathable.

Nope. No way. If I have to suffer through all those hairy chest competitions you will have to suffer through this! :p

Some people find men with Hairy Chests sexy, or is it some Men with Hairy Chests are found to be sexy? :p

Nancy likes my hairy chest, it's the back hair she wants to shave off :eek:

Shave? Shaving is for babies. Break out the wax! :D:eek:

Women are definitely tougher then men....there is no way 99% of the men aren't crying like babies if they had to regularly wax one area. Women do that area with no trouble

From Wikipedia, which granted, can be disputed:

History[edit]

Carnival Paradise was built to be the world's first completely non-smoking cruise ship and she was entered into service supported by several anti-smoking and cancer-prevention groups. "No smoking" signs were placed prominently on both sides of the ship and on the stern under the name.

Non-smoking rules were strictly enforced. No smoking materials of any kind were permitted aboard. If anything was seen or found, the passenger was fined $250 and put off at the next port (transportation home to be provided at passenger's own expense). Due to poor revenue, Carnival decided to discontinue the smoke-free ship in December 2003 because they claimed that non-smokers tend to not drink or gamble as much as those accustomed to smoke.[6]

And we all know that EVERYTHING that is posted on wiki is absolute word of god gospel fact.

That is really uncalled for. The poster was just expressing what she would wish. That is the stated purpose of this thread, regardless of the various tangents that it has taken.

And I was expressing my vies on the topic at hand.

With regard to a Non-Smoking ship ... the sad fact is that smokers SPEND MORE MONEY on Gambling in the casino (which is why the casino will NEVER be non-smoking) and smokers also spend more on Booze ... which is why that ill-fated non-smoking ship failed.

I smoked for 30 years and quit almost a year ago - so I can see both sides.

I don't understand WHY PEOPLE CARE what anyone WEARS to the MDR? I've been on two cruises this year and I honestly NEVER noticed if someone was wearing shorts, a ball cap, ripped jeans ... as long as they are not naked, let me in to eat. Really, who cares? YOU ARE ON VACATION PEOPLE :)

The rule I would like changed: Allowing me to bring 16oz Monster Energy Drinks onboard, instead of having to bring Red Bulls (which I don't like as much) cause red bull comes in 12OZ!!!!

Cheers,

Jeff aka Recovery Dude

I call BS. With a ration of 85:15 of non smokers to smokers, the smokers would have to spend over 5.6 times per person to break even with the total spend of non smokers let alone a 'sad fact' of spending more money'. That is not even factoring in the number of smokers who only go to the casino to smoke. Try again...

I think something to consider is that while on vacation some people may smoke when in "real life" they may not. Kind of like when people are on vacation they tend to drink more then when at home. So I think the 20% may be a little higher when on vacation.

Just a thought...

***??? People who do not smoke do not become smokers when on vacation. I have had patients answer the question do you smoke with the answer just a little bit and typically that means they smoke only a little bit because they can't afford more cigarettes or because they do not have enough time to go outside often enough to smoke more at their place of work. Non-smokers do not have any desire to smoke whether on vacation or not!

I would like to see a floor of the dining room that holds the people to the dress policy and one that doesnt

This!!! I have been saying for years that this would be such an easy fix to this old debate. A choice when you book, just like early and late dining, would you prefer the elegant or casual dining room.

That and add two more similar floors to the MDR that allow smoking and most of the threads in this board go away... Ok, maybe not [emoji3]

Just curious, do they actually allow smoking cigars in the Churchill Lounge? It was called, at one time, Winston's Cigar Lounge. Now its called Winston's Bar.

Couldn't they just make the Buffet the "casual dining" and bring more formality to the MDR? Wouldn't need any construction, its all in place now

I just thought going on a cruise was suppose to be a vacation. Not who dresses to the 9s or who likes to wear shorts in the MDR. Who smokes or doesn't smoke. Who can or can't ride the elevator. Life it too short to worry about what other people do and think. Maybe some reconsideration is in order. It suppose to be a vacation not who is better than the Jones. Its MY vacation and I will do what I see fit. I don't judge people for what they do. It is there choice what to do as it is my choice of what I want to do The op asked a simple question and the thread turned into a debate...off the soap box and dropped the mic...

Smithers, lets use your example....its YOUR vacation, I want to do and dress how I want....for the sake of argument, no dress code....we cool, you like that

For the vast majority of cruisers, they use common sense....so lets say you have early dining. You do your activities during the day, you get to late afternoon and what happens? You pack up your stuff off of the lounge chair, make your way back to the cabin.....shower, shave, prep and make your way to dinner....right? No dress code, we did away with it, so people will wear whatever they want....Here is the problem. With "no dress code", you will get 5-10% who are chuckleheads....they will roll their butt off the lounge chair at 6 pm...."oh dang, dinner time"....and roll their butts right into the MDR....dripping bathing suit, tanktop stuck to their back because of sweat and sunscreen, sweaty....but hey, we are on vacation right, we should do what we want....hang loose.....Can I ask a question? Are you telling me you wouldn't mind having this person plop down next to you and your partner at a table for 6? I am sure that aroma would simply add to the ambiance of a nice dinner :D

Hmmm... I know several people including my husband who smoke cigars while on a cruise.

No need to use exclamation points. I was just throwing out a point that I personally know of :)

First thing is if you have a rule you should enforce it consistently. Examples from our last Dream cruise: a. I told DS no ball cap in the MDR. He pointed out multiple people with ball caps on in the MDR on multiple nights. Hard for me to enforce their rules when they don't. If they don't want to enforce the rule then get rid of it. b. I was sitting in the non-smoking section of the casino (with the non-smoking signs on the machines) when a couple guys sat next to me and lit up their cigarettes. I pointed to the sign and told them they were in the non-smoking section. They pointed to the clean ashtray that was sitting next to the machine and said they had been smoking there the whole cruise (this was the last sea day) and if it was non-smoking why have the ashtrays there.

Second I would like to see either better ventilation in the casino or a complete ban on indoor smoking if that were not possible.

Third I would like to eliminate the rule that all adults must purchase the cheers package in a room if one of them wants it.

Fourth I would like them to either create a club like space for 18-21 year olds to have as their own or eliminate the rule banning them from Serenity. Every other age group has a space to call their own except for them.

Overall I really don't have many issues with the rules as they are written. But written means nothing if they are not enforced.

There is no need for a rule for no caps in any dining facility. Anyone with any manners at all realizes how rude and vulgar that is in the first place.

Answering 'just a little bit' when asked if you smoke is like answering 'only red heads' when asked if you have ever beat a woman. Either you smoke or you do not smoke. I trust that since you have 'patients' that you clearly explain that to them.
