Surely Princess has an obligation to make sure everyone receives a note of the port agent as an emergency contact in each port. Are Princess newbies told they have to collect the Patter from reception?

First it was Butter-gate and now it's Patter-gate...wonder what will be the next cutback? Any guesses? ;)

Maybe to conserve water we'll be back to the original term...Water-gate! :p

Haha! I wonder how much Princess pays the guy who runs the "dumb ideas" department. :)

We agree with everyone who want the Patter continued. We look forward to reading it the night before for info about activities and movie schedules. How else would we know what movies we would want to go see in the theater? And how would we know about the excursions? And we also agree those included ads and ads and ads. Certainly could do without them. We could accept a TV "patter" but that wouldn't suffice for those who want a keepsake. A friend just returned from a Viking ocean cruise and they receive a glossy booklet with all sort so info in it, about the ship, activities etc including excursions and if they had signed up for one, it was noted in the booklet with specific instructions. Obviously, they don't get a daily "patter".

Count me as another who wants the Patter everyday in my Stateroom.

I am on vacation, so the first thing that goes into the Room Safe is my Phone because I do not want to carry it around looking at some Ap.

Bob

I agree....keep your apps, I want my Patter everyday please!!!

Plus, Princess@sea doesn't work off the ship. So if you're off the ship in port and need information from the Patter, you're out of luck (like the information they provide on how to get help getting back to the ship if you get lost).

In the first post the OP provided a PDF copy of the letter about this change & they are providing a "Help Card".

"Please find enclosed a 'Help Card' with important contact details for our Port Agents and Embassies to carry with you when venturing ashore in our ports of call".

They're providing "a Help Card" which based on their wording is one card with that information for all ports of call. I'm thinking that many passengers could misplace the card and need a replacement card.

I'm strongly in favor of receiving a printed copy of the Patter daily which I read each evening before going to sleep to plan my next day. But I've read several studies that say viewing devices at bedtime results in sleep issues and is why Apple has Night Shift in their current iOS.

When I've sailed RCCL, their daily activity paper includes a smaller tear off version to carry which only contains activities & nothing else...very convenient & better than carrying a full size Patter.

Agree with all of the above...

Regarding the Patter, we sometimes wish we had TWO as each of us would like to have one when we go opposite directions!!! LOL

You can always ask the cabin steward to give you 2 (I've done that whenever I've traveled with a roommate so that way, we both can take them home with us).

First time I'm hearing about Princess cutting down on sending out the Patter too. I agree with everyone about less ads such as spa, casino and especially art auctions. Those will always be tossed in the trash - I have no use for them. Now, if there's a shopping special, then I will keep it and find it very useful. We have the Crown Princess to Mexico coming up in September so I do hope we get our Patter the night before. I too like to look at it while relaxing and plan the next day's activities!

Maybe they get rewarded a percentage of the savings in that department? :p

Just an effort to add a little bit of levity to this thread. ;)

It's been a while since I've cruised Carnival but they also had a similar tear off version. Much easier to fold up and put into a pocket. Certainly uses a fraction of paper than the current Patter.

I agree. That tear off sheet is very convenient. And you still get the full sized Compass that goes into greater detail about the various activities. Edited by Jasperdo

Thanks

Wasn't able to open the PDF on my phone. Figured it out, saved to iBooks.

They could provide a half sheet patter for those days.

While not happy about them not being delivered to my stateroom, as long as I can run down first thing in the morning (I go to the gym at 6 am) and get one every morning on Deck 5, I can live with it. I rarely read it at night. I read it during the morning while laying on the beach so we can decide what time to go have dinner and see the shows.

So while it is nice to have it delivered, as long as I can still get a hard copy I am good. I also use them to do my slide show once I get home so I do want a hard copy to take home.

Instead of going to the Passenger Services desk to btain a Patter people should go there and ask about individual activities like " What activity is at 2:00 in the Piazza? When is the next trivia game? Where is the next trivia game? Can yu explain the procedures for tendering? Questions that would normally be answered in the Patter. Also use the phone for the same requests. The desk would become totally useless and prove the continuing need for the Patter.

The at sea app has been basically useless since its inception and any hopes for its improvement are wasted as they could have done it already.

By the length of the lines at the PSD some mornings I think people are already asking those questions.;)

Since so many of us read the patter before we go to bed I propose that we all go down and get the patter in our sleep wear. Now I realize we all wear different stuff but don't let that deter you. PJs or naked, what ever it happens to be.

I sent an email to Princess and within 5 minutes it was read. No response yet and the person that read it had a "Cunard" in her email address.

I love Princess and I love my Patter. I use it for everything - except the sales. Okay, I like the photo sales. I have never been to the spa or the art sales. If i want to buy jewelry I'm pretty sure I know where the shops are and when they are having a sale. How are we to know what time the nightly shows are, dinner, the movies etc.

Most importantly what time we leave the ship how and for safety reasons what time we have to be back on board and if there are any special instructions on how to get back inside the port.

Just back from the Princess Regal and we were given this notice in our stateroom on the first day. I added the notice as an attachment.

This sounds like a cost cutting move on the part of Princess, although they claim its for their environmental program. Personally, I enjoy reading the patter the night prior so I can plan the following day out. The App is cool and works well but I don't think it replaces a hard copy.

I think its great that Princess is trying to better the environment but for me this was a bust.

What are they thinking?? I would be OK with it if the Patter was available in public areas early evening day before. We read and decide much the night before. Princess I am disappointment in this decision. Rethink it please.

We tell our room steward on the first day that we would like 2 patters every evening. It has never been a problem.

Why do you think they don't already get those calls?

I have been at the desk then the person has received phone calls asking:

1) What is the weather outside.

2) Can you read the dinner menu to me.

If their intent is to save paper...how about fewer sales brochures. We usually get 3-4 pieces of paper daily that go immediately into the trash can. Don't even look at them.

I hate the art auction ads that get stuck in my mail box. Then the Etsy ads, spa ads, on and on. They can stop inserting these papers in the patter, they get thrown away and adds extra work for the cabin steward. I want the patter every day and less announcements over the ship intercom as to what's going on where. Half the time you can't even understand what they are saying. M2CW

Keep Daily In Cabin Princess Patters & get-rid of all that Spa, Excursions, Sales Stuff, etc., that we pitch daily. If we have a specific question/need to book an onboard activity, excursion, etc., we know where to go. So far the survey results says it all. Love Princess - but a trial - come on Princess you know better - wink, wink!
