charlielinda Posted August 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2016 If you buy 100 shares of RCCL stock how soon can you obtain the OBC for a cruise. We are taking a TA and the OBC would be $250 so thinking of purchasing the stocks. Thoughts?
WestLakeGirl Posted August 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2016 You can apply as soon as you have paperwork showing the purchase. You probably don't have any other perks, so that is your reason for this, I'm sure. Buy it if it fits your investment strategy, not just for the OBC
Karynanne Posted August 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2016 If you find RCL a good investment, buy the stock. I purchased mine many years ago, and along Shareholder perks and increased stock values and dividends, it has been a good investment.
Rare keesar Posted August 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) Please don't buy the stock just for the shareholder credit. It has been increasingly difficult to obtain the shareholder OBC as it is NOT combinable with most promotions. We have not received shareholder OBC in many years due to current promotions. ECCruise Posted August 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 3, 2016 On a TA is one of the few remaining places where Shareholder credit is probably applicable And that is only if you don't book a group rate, which we always do, which cannot be combined. Wine-O Posted August 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 3, 2016 We were on a TA last year. Since we booked on board another TA, we got $100 OBC. I had to give it back to get the shareholder $250, so it was a net $150. This year we got $200 for booking a TA on board a TA, so the net from using the shareholder will only be $50. zoncom Posted August 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 3, 2016 It will cost you $6,900. to get that OBC. If you get it! On Spring Reflection for a month, including TA with stock ownership for many years. Was denied OBC for either run. Other recent posts indicate same problem. So do some research here. BEAV Posted August 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 3, 2016 We're on a Transpacific next month, and I applied for the credit since there are no Celebrity-sponsored perks on crossings. I received a strange (to me, anyway) response that said the fare I had booked was an "opaque" rate, which didn't qualify for the shareholder credit, but that they were going to give it to me anyway as a "one time exception". Granted, the fare I paid via the Travel Agent was less than on the =X= website, but I don't know what they meant by an opaque rate. We don't travel on any type of travel industry discounts, so I know that wasn't the issue.

There's some fine print you should be aware of: Benefit is not combinable with other onboard credit offers, general loyalty offers, “dollars off/wave” promotions, savings certificates, onboard chartered sailings, certain group sailings, certain price programs or bookings made at a reduced rate or travel agent rate. Bobocasey Posted August 3, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 3, 2016 In other words your chance of getting obc from stocks are pretty near impossible on Celebrity. Not so with HAL parent company Carnival. They allow you to combine obc. We have stocks in both and always get it from Carnival and rarely from RCL.
kevinyork Posted August 4, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Surprisingly having only been able to get shareholder benefit on one cruise, a late deal with no perks, we have been given it for our cruise next month as the terms of the UK free drinks package offer actually states that deal is combinable with shareholder benefit. Only spotted that fine print a few weeks ago. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I own CCL as well, and just had it added to January's cruise on HAL on which I'm getting a Casino promo discount and the Explore 4 promo. I think I've worn out my welcome on this forum complaining about X's dubious practices.
