Problem connecting iPad this morning I think was down to it being on the unlimited Like package before and would not work with the LCV code. After clearing the cache and restarting the iPad all is now OK, still don't appear to be up to speed but that might not happen until the 1st September despite being told it would be from Monday.

No mention of the 48 hour restriction on here but having problems connecting this morning. Have switched to the phone with a 4G connection instead.

As I assume you are in the Med, won't you incur roaming charges by doing that?

we've done a few B2B and the carry-over of minutes has never been an issue, as we've apportioned our precious minutes per day to download newspapers, check emails (and respond after typing replies off-line), review facebook i.e. very limited use. We have never had any carry over minutes left.

Improved wifi will be greatly appreciated by all users.

On Quest last week the internet wasn't too bad from the PCs in In Touch, but my MacBook Pro couldn't connect to the internet at all and another passenger vented a lot of frustration over the same issue [i was just trying to print Boarding Passes at the end of the cruise, but he was staying on board and needed access for business reasons]. Bonnie: could you check why the Azamara wifi network doesn't play nice with Apple computers?

Internet is always an issue on the Norway cruises because of latitude. I had issues. The biggest Azamara cruisers need net access for business and won't do Norwegian Fjords cruises for this reason. Perhaps it will improve if they put the same system on Quest as Journey.

On another subject I'm surprised no one has mentioned the bikes yet[emoji605]

OK J....I will! Just got back from Journey and Captain Magnus announced a new venture called Cruise Local, Bike Local....Or something like that! I was drinking my bubbles at the time! :D

Anyway, it will involve having bicycles onboard the ships and guests doing escorted bike rides in ports. The announcement did not seem to be received with great enthusiasm by the audience, as far as I could see. LOL.

My iPad worked fine all cruise. No connection issues at all.

Thanks for the news, Lottie. If I had been there, I would have applauded Captain Magnus and his bikes. It would depend upon the port and anticipated weather. If it is somewhat flat and cool, I would definitely be interested in a guided bike ride.

Not surprised. Now, "cruise local, drink local" -- that would be very well received :D

Thanks for the word on the bikes, Lottie! I know of at least two cruisers who will be happy to hop aboard a bike - beach cruiser, road bike, hybrid, whatever - to explore ports.

Good news!

Update on Internet speeds, I have been using the access code from last cruise and only getting speeds between 0.25 -0.40Mbps including today. So I thought I would try the code for this cruise instead in case the system was cleverer than I thought, it must be as the speed increased to 4Mbps although it does appear variable as on a retest it did drop to 1Mbps.

I will continue to test the system as the cruise progresses.

On the bike front, talking to Capt. Magnus and he said they will be fold up bikes with small wheels!

Speed update it does appear that our minute from the previous cruise are capped at 512Kb and we are getting on average about 400Kb, while for this cruise it's 1Gb and achieving 0.8Gb. So speed looks to have doubled, not tried streaming anything yet and not sure I will have the minutes left to try it either.

Hmmm. Obviously these will be used for the "glamour shots," Capt. & Guests rolling along foreign quays, knees out and arms akimbo as we drink in the sights. So long as we're not also provided with tasseled hats and a spot in the local parade! ; )

Update on speeds, I got a bit carried away before that should have read 0.8Mb not Gb!

Feedback so far is mixed with most saying it's not much better, as we have still minutes left from the last cruise which seem to be restricted in speed we can make a direct comparison.

If we log on using the old code the average download speed is 0.28Mb however on the new code we are averaging 0.88Mb a significant increase and noticeable but a fraction of the 1Gb indicated on the log on screen.

We have been reminded that this is a trial and the system is being "tweeked" so it will be interesting to see how it progresses.

My apologies in advance for a potentially stupid question. We are taking our first Azamara cruise Friday. When you say there is a broadband trial, does that mean broadband speeds are free for those who pay for Internet packages, or does everyone receive free internet service during the trial?

I'm afraid there's no free internet during the trial but the increase in speed is included in all the packages.

Is the trial on Quest?

I read it was on Journey and depending on the outcome may be extended to Quest.

As far as I know, the trial is just on Journey and for the month of September. Decisions will then be made about rolling it out to both ships. I am hoping to take advantage of it on our Journey cruise in two weeks, but I have to say that the normal internet speeds have always been adequate for me. However, I don't download/upload big files on holiday, just my emails really.

Just off Journey and found no improvement in Internet access or speed since our last cruise in February on either iPhone or iPad. Very slow but I only use the free minutes for emails and social media so it is not an issue. I completed the questionnaire to that effect.

Speed is supposed to be equivalent to Voom on RC however on our cruise there were technical issues and the speed was only slightly higher than before which was hardly noticeable.

Hopefully the issues will be resolved and those on the following cruises will be able to give positive reports.

Not sure who told you about the equivalency of Voom and Azamara, but having experienced Voom on Royal Caribbean I'd say no way is it ever going to be like that on Azamara. Well, I'd be very surprised.

It was a reliable source near the top, backed up by the max speed given on the login page being at 1Gb. Problem still lies with the ship infrastructure, I know a lot of new cabling was installed in January as we watched it being worked on but there are still compatibility issues apparently.
