Over the last couple of years there has been, and still on going, comments about what the so called 'target' age group for Celebrity is. Be it thru their advertising and on ship product.

Here on the Celebrity board, we are a good cross section of their market. What category do the biggest % of us fall into?

You can vote on age and if you feel you fit into the target group.

Not sure what the poll will prove...The things they push make it not so much a question of age but cruise style...it is now geared to pulling guests from Carnival, Norwegian and Royal C....

Alcohol packages are a big pull, egg drops seem popular, more casual, odd music , less interest in finer dining

More modern...not more elegant...but we still find our niche and happy place!

It looks like your poll is asking strictly what age we think Celebrity is targeting, and not what age group the CC Celebrity cruisers fall into - correct? I'm not sure we're going to learn anything or influence anything the way the poll is worded.

I agree that Celebrity seems to aiming for a younger crowd than it used to, but have no idea what that age group might be. From the complains on this board, it seems that many people think their target is the Miami "hip" spectrum, whatever age that might be. However, onboard there seems to be a big difference in the vibe, depending on the itinerary and length of the cruise.

When we've been on board we've found the longer asian cruises are mostly an "older" passenger that appears to be well travelled in their mid to late fifties and up. On short Caribbean sailings we've found that the demographics are totally different. Last January we did B2B2B one week sailings and there appeared to be many late twenties and up with much less refinement to them. Sea days by the pools were much less relaxing as there was a big drinking atmosphere. (Don't flame me)

My DD and her boyfriend (30 yr) sailed in Europe this spring on Celebrity and they said the passengers were quite old. Very pleasant but like sailing with a lot of their grandparents lol. They enjoyed the cruise because they enjoy good food and are not into nightlife but if they were wanting a party atmosphere they said they would have been disappointed.

I believe that their target passenger is based of income level and spending habits more than age. They have made quite clear that they are after the high margin spender. That's way the corporate emphasis has shifted from "Loyalty" to "Suite passengers". This has been discussed in some detail on other threads but Celebrity, as other lines has really recreated the old class system on ships. As people become older they may have more disposable income and they may choose to spend it on cruising; however, I've noticed quite a few of those in top Suites tend to be in their 40s and 50s.

The age part is to see where we as a group here on CC fall. The last 3 are if we feel we fit into their target.

I have no idea what age they target, don't care, but am looking to see where those sailing now fall.

And you seem to feel that "Celebrity has an wide target, but no longer us" also, right?

Agree with Hcat. A month in Europe on Reflection this Spring....I kinda thought passenger profile was a product of Free booze packages and ultra low cruise pricing.Poorly dressed, they seemed more interested in the pool burgers than a nice MDR lunch. But they never seemed to be drinking any more than usual crowd. Not very friendly(I was solo).Do not mean to sound like a snob but when by yourself you notice these thing Been on 10 TAs..It was different ambience.

We fit this category and have moved 10 weeks worth of suite cruising to other cruise lines. That's a lot of Millennial booze cruises. Celebrity's loss, my enjoyable gain. We stay with X only for one holiday family cruise per year.

Over many years of cruising on X, we have met a wonderful range of guests...diff ages, nations, cultures... But everyone was very congenial, well traveled and loved to chat, inclusive.

Now, they just seem to want to fill the ships no matter what.....and some of the new cruisers are just not our cup of tea.

Jeeze....

it's bad enough having the companies mining for demographic data without random people doing it to amuse themselves

Well you can't really blame the cruise lines be it Celebrity or any of them for that matter....I can't remember the number (but it is large) of cruisers recalling proudly that they spent nothing above the base cost of the cruise while on board. The various lines want people willing to crack open their wallets and purses to spend a bit on extra's while on the cruise

So when you asked "What Age bracket sail's on Celebrity?", you were really wanting to know "What age were you on your last Celebrity sailing?" rather than an opinion on what is the most common age? I then interpreted the question wrong. Based on our last cruise, the Solstice in AU/NZ in January, I did not feel we were outside their target group, and we are far from young. We felt very comfortable with the activities and entertainment offered on that particular cruise. Other cruises, especially short Caribbean itineraries, might be very different.

Totally agree. When a cruise line makes revenue from on board spending, they want to keep those that are spending on the ships and if those that don't spend fall by the wayside, there will always be others to replace them.

I see nothing wrong with the age poll. Personally I found it very interesting

I am 29 and my partner is 34. We realize we are on the young end of the spectrum for Celebrity cruisers and I like that. We've been very fortunate to have been sailing Celebrity for the past 5 years and have found every year we tend to sail more and spend more  We truly enjoy the crowd on Celebrity and after every cruise we stay in contact with new people we've befriended as I'm sure many of you do.

We took our first TA in April. We had a blast even though we were the youngest paying passengers on the ship (meaning not counting children traveling with families). It was the most enjoyable cruise we've been on. So much so we are on the Reflection TA in two weeks.

We love the drink package and always have it. We purchased it before it was a perk and when it is not included we make sure to buy it, and always the premium...how can we not?! Our idea of a great night out is a great dinner followed by even better martinis listening to some rat pack or nice jazz. But sure every now and then a little club music is fine with us. I'm sure there are plenty of baby boomers that completely agree.

At the end of the day age is just a number. We've become great friends with plenty of people twice our age. Good conversation, class and tact is definitely not exclusive to any age or income group.

We've enjoyed the new options Celebrity has added such as unlimited ultimate dining for when we've not sailed in Aqua or Suite. We're now fortunate enough to have suites booked for our future cruises and love the experience. One of the things I really love about Celebrity is the fact that it caters to so many different people. You can sit at a bar and meet people from all walks of life with different preferences yet you still can enjoy specific luxuries if you so choose.

So to get back on topic, I think Celebrity is catering to a wide group. However, their main focus will be a wide group with one thing in common....those will to contribute to ancillary revenue. I'm always fascinated learning and reading about the financial workings of any industry I come to enjoy (liquor business, the bar business, the auto industry....and the cruise industry). Cabin fares are meant to cover costs....the additional revenue on the ship from tours to liquor to the casino and other purchases...that is where the profit is located.

So no matter what cruise line you're on, sit back, relax and enjoy yourself! Life could be a hell of a lot worse!

Cheers & Happy Sailing!

As others have said, I think itinerary has more influence on the age group sailing than anything. I didn't notice anything on my Celebrity cruise that directly pointed to them trying to attract younger people or pushing away older people. As someone in my early 30's Celebrity appeals to me more than Princess, but to me both experiences are more similar than different.

So here we are after the first day.

205 folks have marked their age group, and 69% are over 50! that post on CC and sail Celebrity.

62 had registered a vote on the target market, and 49, or 79% said they were it.

So after the first 24 hours it would lead one to think if Celebrity is trying to reach a younger market, thru drink pkg's and loud music, it is not working. Us older empty nesters are still the bulk of the passenger base that is cruising on Celebrity. And from the couple of comments from those under 50, they like the up scale product and hangin with us old fogies'!

Very interesting, indeed.

I'd think if we just did a "what's your age poll?" across all of the CC boards we'd see a similar age distribution.

The most interesting part of this poll so far, to me, is the number of us that do not have children! Maybe that should be X's target market (DINKs and the like). Whether it's affluence or disposable income, I think most of us here seem to fit that demographic.

I am in my 30's, FTR, and have been cruising X since my late 20's. :D

I can only measure based on the Celebrity cruises I have taken which have all been in January from 11 to 14 nights. Because of the time of year and the length the majority of passengers are 50+ with probably about half of them being 65+. It feels like a floating retirement home sometimes. I'm approaching 43 and I feel very young when cruising this itinerary. That being said, I don't mind it at all. The people are generally more polite and quiet, there's rarely an issue getting reservations at dining or the spa and after 10pm you often have the ship to yourself. The best part is NO KIDS! Usually there will be maybe 4-5 kids on the entire ship which is wonderful! Best way to cruise the Caribbean!

We're in our 50s and happen to like nightclubbing and modern music. Bring it on!

4 days in and 296 Cruise Critic member's here on the Celebrity board have filled in the blanks.

69% are over 50, and 80% of the 76 that voted, said they fit.

Many of those a tad :D younger posted that they like the product too.

In the end if Celebrity is truly trying to shift the passenger target group, well, ;)

We have children, (6 of them, in fact) We just wouldn't cruise Celebrity with them. We take Royal or Carnival when the kids are with us. That's what I interpreted "50s no kids" to mean. Just as I imagine most of the 60's and up have grandchildren but don't take them when they cruise.
