Birthday "gifts" from Carnival

I've seen some posts about "birthday" gifts from carnival like free photos, spa time, etc...

Is this a package you purchase at a discount, or is it triggered by noting a birthday on your reservation / DOB for the guest? We were switch from a Halloween cruise to one during my wife's birthday so was just wondering if I need to find this under the gift catalog or is it automated?

There is a place on your reservation where you can note a celebration. They have her birth date so that should trigger it as well.

Add: on your reservation go to cruise details and then click on guests

Modify guest info and you can add it there.

The gift cards are given to those who have a birthday in that month, not necessarily during the cruise. They just go by your DOB that you list in the system when you book. My husband got a spa one and wine one on our 7/2 cruise, even though his birthday isn't until 7/13.

My birthday was during the cruise and they gave me the $50 Spa card and free photo. I also received a cute cake in my stateroom which was totally unexpected. Please note that I didn't put down anywhere that it was my birthday so I am assuming that they saw it on my forms.

I also want to say that the previous year I sailed on Royal on my birthday and they didn't give me anything. They did say Happy Birthday to me every time I ordered a drink at the various bars which I thought was very nice. But I didn't receive any "gifts" from them so I really was very impressed with Carnival when I saw the spa card, photo coupon, and cake.

If you want to ensure a celebration then you better plan it yourself. In the many years that we celebrated my daughter's birthday onboard there was nothing special that wasn't planned by myself. Granted, a very helpful room steward helped me decorate the room once, but other than that, nada from Carnival.

Platinum with Carnival.

Cruises during birthday months, noted.

One during 40th anniversary. noted.

Never received anything for any occasion.

Not something I would look forward to.

this is a relatively new program, where they do indeed give 'gifts' for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

so while in the past it would be true to not expect anything special aside from perhaps a song sung by waiters in the dining room, your past experience is moot, given that this is a relatively new program. what was true then is not necessarily true now. that said, since it is still relatively new, ymmv and i wouldn't be surprised if the 'experience' ship to ship was not reliably the same yet - nothing ever seems to be consistent fleetwide all at once...

i started reading about this a few months ago (and there are some other threads about it). just as i'm certain your experience is accurate, i'm also pretty sure people posting about spa coupons, free photos, bottles of champagne, etc. aren't lying either. some have confirmed it in this very thread.

PLEASE also be aware that just because you are celebrating something and have noted it, does not mean you're going to get anything... It is all random ... doesn't matter the color of your card etc.... ALL RANDOM NOT GUARANTEED ...

If you really want something or want someone else to get something, seriously order it yourself ....

Thank you Carnival for the Spa card. But would have been better if it was worth any thing. $50 is nothing in the Spa. Wish we had gotten the photo gift card.

I have to disagree. I received the $50 Spa card for my birthday and used it for a manicure, which was $50 and only had to tip manicurist. Loved it!

I also received a gift card for $25 towards a bottle of wine. Bought the $25 bottle on the menu and spent nothing else for it.

Well that was the question; is it a discounted bundle of goodies to order beforehand, or an extra nicety

We sailed 2 days after my birthday in September. I received a card for a free 5 X 7 photo. We avoid the photographers like the plague, so it went in the trash.

Since they can track what items were redeemed, tossing them in the trash is a good way to show them the gift program is a waste.

My birthday is in October and we just got off the Valor. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a spa gift card and a pixels card for a free 5 x 7 in my cabin. I had not mentioned anything about my birthday in my booking and I have sailed several times previously in October and didn't receive anything.

Just a heads up to anyone receiving the pixels card - it's not for any picture you choose. We rarely buy pictures so I wasn't too knowledgeable and assumed I could just have any picture printed into a 5 x 7. We did have some formals done this time for the first time and I thought I could have one of them made into a 5 x 7 and use my card. That's not how it works - only the disembark (ports) photos and a few others taken around the ship are made into 5 x 7s. Unfortunately for me, it was too late to get any of those taken so I couldn't use my card.

My family just returned a couple of weeks ago from my granddaughter's birthday cruise on Triumph. After seeing previous threads about gifts given for special occasions I had no clue if she would or wouldn't receive anything since most of them mentioned were for adults. To our surprise, as we were getting ready for dinner (the night of her birthday), our steward came to our cabin with a cute box and balloons for her. She received one of the bears like they make at Camp Ocean. It had a card from the ship, a birth certificate and passport with it. She was a very happy girl that night!!!.....and so were we!!!!! Thank you Carnival! That was perfect.

This is a really cool program! We're going to be sailing during our anniversary (Thursday on a Sat-Sat cruise). If we actually were to get one of these, would it be on our actual anniversary date, or just sometime that week? I love wine, and the spa, and getting pictures of us together that aren't selfies [emoji16][emoji991]

I can only hope they do that for my 9yo in April.. we are doing this for her birthday and annotated but her actual birthday is the following week. If not, I am not going to make a big deal because I am ordering the cabin decorations anyway lol she would just flip at something like that :)

whereas i agree with you that it certainly should not be counted on, they are indeed doing it... i agree and offered a preface ymmv i doubt everyone will get the same thing per se - and so far as we know they could stop doing it tomorrow.

and as nice as it may be for anybody celebrating an 'anything' as it seems, i don't understand the business practice.

anybody can walk on, with say the lowest cat room, spend nothing, (this is a hypothetical) say they're celebrating something, and get a for instance $50 spa + $25 wine + $20 photo = 95 benefit...

but if i book a balcony, pay double for single, and then spend $500 onboard.

maybe they should start sending gifts to people who book higher category rooms, buy cheers, buy stuff at the shops, play bingo, etc. basically, the passengers that spend money onboard, which is what makes their profit margin.

fwiw, i think it's a nice gesture, but at the same point one that doesn't make business sense - to give free stuff for the sense of giving it, although it will grant goodwill. however, this is at a point when they are forcing 'once a day room service', 'ask for robes', 'pay to not wait (fttf), etc. t just doesn't make much sense. congratulations to everybody that has been celebrating something and i'm glad you enjoyed it!

ccl ust needs to get their game in line.
