Change to Latitudes Program in 2017?

There was a posting on another site saying that yesterday the Latitudes page had the following:

 

"We are delighted to announce that in early 2017 we will have some exciting enhancements coming to the Latitudes Rewards Program. From great new benefits ..."

 

I have googled that and the article is there, but when you click through it's the old information.

 

We can hope that they'll add new tiers :)

With the cruise track record you have with NCL - What ? You want your very own personal tier - JUST KIDDING !

Congrats on the outstanding achievement - you must be at or past the Holy Grail milestone -

say dining with the Captain on the Bridge - menu Champagne and Lobster -

private escorted service to loge seating in the theatre -

did I miss anything ?

 

It took me three cruises to get to Platinum and I am lucky to get hot-dogs

off the Barby at Topsiders.

 

Hint of something NEW I would like to see is at various levels of the Platinum

an automatic inclusion of various promo perks no matter what stateroom one

is in and gratuities waived - with constant loyal cruising case in point "You Deserve It" !

We took a 29 day cruise, booked more than 9 months ahead of time for 58 points, booked a 12 day Grand Med more than 9 months ahead of time, got 24 points and that's all it took.

Thank you, but won't you need 2 if you travel around the world twice?:D From what I have heard it would not be worth the postage. (There are only 3 roads in Portugal?)

I went directly from bronze to gold and skipped silver entirely. Under the old program, latitudes level was based on the number of cruises and since I tended to take longer cruises, I had 51 days but was still bronze. Then they changed the program and my latitudes level turned to gold. After one more 14-day cruise (booked 9 months in advance), my latitudes level turned platinum.

 

Still haven't gotten that road atlas, though.

The on board cruise consultants at NCL have been talking about a change in the Latitude program for several years now, including adding an additional "step on the Latitude ladder", without anything happening so far. So I will not believe any rumor until it is actually happening....

I'm all for adding status levels, as long as Norwegian cruisers don't turn into Royal Caribbean cruisers. Have you ever been on their board to see the various complaining about/from Diamond, Diamond + and Pinnacle? There was an active thread yesterday about it (it may still be going strong today).

Remember that the last time the Latitudes program was overhauled, the changes were first announced by NCL in late 2007 (as part of the "Freestyle 2.0" initiative), but didn't actually happen until late 2011… :p

 

Also, here's a reminder of what the old program used to be. It was based simply on the number of cruises completed, regardless of cruise length or stateroom category:

 

• Bronze: 1 completed cruise
  
• Silver: 5 completed cruises
  
• Gold: 9 completed cruises
  
• Platinum: 14 completed cruises
  

(The benefits for each tier were more or less the same as they are now.)

Celebrity is the same way. They complained about wanting another tier or two and they got their wish and many were very, very unhappy about it, saying they could never make Zenith tier (the top tier) and that wasn't fair and that the new Elite+ perks are not good enough. Celebrity also made it harder for everyone to make the tiers.

The Secret to scoring Latitudes Points is in the booking.

 

Start with the basic 1 point per night

 

Insider offer if available

1 point per night

 

Book more than 9 months away

1 point per night

 

Stateroom is a Suite

1 point per night

 

Total 4 points per night (maximum)

times the number of days the cruise is

 

The Panama Canal Cruise of 14 days yielded 56 points

Alaska cruise prior to that (first NCL cruise) 7 days - 7 points

7 day Western Caribbean trip yielded 21 points

Total to that point is - 84 (8 more than 76 the minimum)

 

Recent B2B New England trip added 42 more

 

Slow and steady will get you there.

11 - 7 day cruises would do it.

 

Once you get to Platinum there is no hurry for the next tier presently.

Loyalty can be a fleeting achievement with the heavy handed operations

of FDRs crew - cruising isn't what it used to be with the cuts in service;

auto DSC (daily service charge); water and beverage rules; restaurant

ala carte fees (entrée fees) and liquor drinks price increases with the UBP

and don't get me started on Gratuities - Egads dictating what one should

pay for basic services !

 

Don't get me wrong - it is better to be cruising with NCL than not but

apparently the good ole days are not coming back any time soon if ever !

I actually saw this on the webpage on the 20th. Now I don't see it. So what does that mean? (rhetorical)

 

I guess we will all find out about a new program when and if they actually do start one someday, maybe in 2017.

OMG, I have three more nights to become Platinum and I won't be able to get the three nights until my February 26 cruise. I HOPE they do not change how many points you need for each tier or take away the current things you get (I really want laundry LOL and liked the idea of complementary dinner).

"If you are a Latitudes Rewards member, a commemorative lapel pin is available on your sailing upon request. Just ask your Cruise Consultant Manager."

I have no problem with the addition of new tiers, as long as they do not take away or water down the benefits we already have as Platinum. Trying to imagine what the "great new benefits" could possibly be. Here's some things I'd like to see. How about an additional free specialty meal for two, a coupon for a few coctails, and the same for a few specialty coffees, some OBC? Think it will be anything that substantial?

See post #2 that someone was nice enough to include. I'm still trying to figure out what the "chocolate ship" is - maybe like the chocolate bunny for Easter.
