Congrats you “stuck it to the man.” Glad to see you’re proud of it.

Not everyone takes alcohol on board because they are cheap or trying to get one over on RCI. I take rum on board because their selections of rum is garbage. Their idea of high end rum is barcardi 8 year and they have it at like 2 bars on the whole ship.

Wow just a tad judgy aren't we. Everyone at one time or another has broken a rule somewhere, no reason to be nasty about it.

We are not buying the drink package this time. DH had an alcohol problem years ago so he can't drink. I think RCL should not make someone who either can't drink for medical reasons or addiction reasons buy a package so their partner can buy one is awful. And yeah I think I would be happy to "stick it to the man" & be proud of it under certain circumstances. I would gladly fork over my share of a package if RCL would allow that as an option.

We found a way around it, we booked a GS. Combine that with the 2 bottles of wine - no problem. Oh and the GS actually cost less with my discounts than a balcony.

How is what I said nasty? I was congratulating the OP about their the successful implementation of their almost one year quest to avoid paying for alcohol and the 18% gratuity charged by the cruise lines. Way to go. Glad to see people are focusing on what they want and sticking it to those nasty money grubbing cruise lines and their employees.

To be fair, Royal will GLADLY stick it to YOU if it means they can make an extra buck. And they for sure brag about it at their board meetings.

I understand wanting a specific brand. We have had success bringing stuff aboard in the past...and it didn’t change how much we spent on alcohol on board. We took a chance and realized we could get reprimanded.

And I agree, choosing the drink package is hard when traveling with a group and one person doesn’t drink it on a line that requires all in the cabin to purchase. Absorbing that cost is asking a lot.

I have done a lot of research on Rum Runners and was hoping to bring them on my next cruise. However, today I was reading the cruise documentation and it said "

Guests who violate any alcohol policies (over consuming,

providing alcohol to people under the age of 21,

demonstrating irresponsible behavior, or attempting

to conceal alcoholic items at security and or luggage

checkpoints or any other time), may be disembarked or

not allowed to board, at their own expense, in accordance

with the Guest Conduct Policy."

Has anyone actually gotten kicked off the cruise for trying to bring Rum Runners on?

Think this through: You're the cruise line. You've found that a cruiser has a Rum Runner filled with alcohol. If you refuse boarding to that cruiser, you sail with an empty cabin ... it's too late to re-sell the cabin ... so you have probably two fewer cruisers buying drinks (because that Rum Runner wasn't going to last the whole cruise) ... two fewer cruisers losing money in the casino ... two fewer cruisers buying excursions ... two fewer cruisers paying tips to the staff ... two fewer cruisers playing Bingo, spending in your shops, buying photographs, spending in the spa and the specialty restaurants ... two fewer cruisers buying NextCruise certificates. But it goes beyond the cruise itself: You have two cruisers who will choose a different line in the future. Yeah, you get to keep their ticket cost, but it won't be worth the negative publicity you'll get online.

No, the cruise line may confiscate a Rum Runner, but they will not refuse to board you simply because you have alcohol. No matter which side of this "controversy" you choose, it simply isn't going to happen. They are a business.

RCI and CC are currently tracking your IP and DNS pings now.... you are now on their radar....
No, you're not. Even if the cruise line could connect your screen name with your reservation (which they can't -- this board doesn't belong to any cruise line, and they have no access to your personal information), they'd have to hire full-time workers in their main office to peruse these boards and maintain a "naughty list" ... and then they'd have to provide a list of names to the longshoremen who load the luggage onboard ... and the longshoremen would have to slow down /read the luggage tags to figure out which bags to reject.

Does this sound likely? No, not at all.

But if cruise lines ever grew a spine, they would also be kicking off the chair hogs, the MDR flip flop wearers, the balcony smokers, the hot tub errr.... relaxers, the cruisers with any kids with them.....
Thing is, all of the above would be child's play compared to searching all the luggage.

Royal Caribbean's main concern is their inability to cut someone off if they become too belligerent.
No one actually believes that. If this were really the cruise line's purpose, they wouldn't sell wine by the bottle /allow you to take the remaining portion back to your cabin, and they wouldn't sell buckets of beer. Edited by MrsPete

You are so humorous. Again you have never broken any rule? Hmm you drive speed limit all,the time. Never a white lie - damn I now have had the pleasure of conversing with the perfect human. I can die happy & fulfilled.

So,let me buy the package without my DH having to buy one. They will get there 20% (cause I'm not cheap) & in cash.

Ugh. I’ll indulge and then go back to lurking. I find these and tipping threads entertaining to follow but most times try to avoid the fray. Slow day at work so had a lapse in judgement.

Nope I ain’t perfect. But sorry your analogies don’t work. This ain’t a speeding ticket. Smugglers of any sort ain’t speeders.

But most importantly to use an analogy, it’s what I’m doing when no body’s looking. If you don’t think there is any impact to others with smuggling booze okay. I ain’t gonna change your opinion. Enjoy your booze and enjoy your cruise

Happy New Year.

Cheers.

OP - You could bring two bottles of whine, or purchase drinks individually or with a package.

Funny reading this thread for the past couple days and see a few that complain about those not dressed formal in the dining room, but have no problem trying to violate the alcohol policy.

*For the grammar police, that was a purposeful alternate spelling. ;p

And I love it! :D

I once got called down to the naughty room because I had a child's scissor in my bag (to cut off tags of new clothes). It wasn't even a pointed one. A round one like the kids use in kindergarten. I said you are going to give me a steak knife but I can't have a blunted scissor. They said no. The best part of the story: My husband brought his dive knife down in his luggage on the same cruise-its big and sharp. They never found it. I never went to retrieve my scissor-just bought another one. Took a steak knife from the dining room and used that to cut off tags.

Same thing happened to my 79 year old mother on her first cruise. She packed a rather large pair of scissors also to cut off tags and was called down to naughty room. Poor thing was in her pjs ready for bed and had to dress and go down. They told her they found a Weapon among her clothing. Lol. Oh how she loved that cruise, sadly passed 2 years later.

While we also try to avoid these thread, some times we just get sucked in by the ludicrous justifications for cheating the cruise line. I feel your pain.

Cheating the cruise line?

The same line that screws us each year by raising prices on pretty much everything?

No .. its just called outsmarting them a bit. They still make plenty of $ off us all at the bar regardless of whether we've taken some of our own on as well.

Rum Runners are the best invention ever.

Raising prices to screw customers is a logical fallacy.

You go right ahead and keep legitimizing what they're doing. We'll just keep filling and bringing our Rum Runner flasks along. It all works out, don't worry. Everyone's happy.

I don't have to legitimize anything. They're in business to make money. That's how it works.

What do people use as mixers with the smuggled alcohol?

Doesn't Royal C charge for anything that could be used?

We usually grab a few extra orange juices in the morning. Or (gasp) bring on a case of pop.

I mean...I've heard people grab orange juice or bring pop. I never would, of course.

I see no issue with this and I also wouldn’t as RCL. Such customers are coupon-clippers and businesses that want to maximise profits usually need to have an offering for such customers that does not detract takings from full-service customers. Staff will have been trained to only pull-up customers with alcohol in their luggage in original bottles; these are customers from which a few more dollars can be easily squeezed. The coupon-clippers are not going to spend more and in too many cases won’t come again if denied the ability to pay the lower overall fare that they seek.

This is just price optimisation at play.
