Dixie1337 Posted February 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Hi Everyone! Some of you might find this a stupid question, but I've really been debating and haven't been able to decide, so I thought I'd put the question to people who have probably done it before! I'm cruising on Oasis of the Seas on March 26. My husband and I are first time cruisers. We're having a beach day on Labadee, so I thought we'd have a pool day while the ship is in port at Cozumel (none of the other excursions caught my eye - if it matters we're doing Dunn's Falls River in Falmouth). I figured the ship would be pretty dead and we both purchased the Ultimate Drink Package so the beverages will be flowing ;) But I was googling excursions to make sure I wasn't selling myself short, and I saw a lot of people talking up Nachi Cocom. I'm curious what the draw of Nachi Cocom is vs the ship pool? Other than the obvious (it's a beach). Help me make up my mind! :) Thanks!
cb at sea Posted February 2, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2017 We enjoy port days on the ship! While most do get off the ship, not everyone does...the ship is up and running, except for the casino and shops. The DR won't serve lunch there on port days, but the buffet and a few smaller venues will be open. Drinks will flow! No worries!
GTO-Girl Posted February 2, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2017 We will also be on the Oasis March 26th..... If you have had enough off the ship with Labadee and Falmouth you may enjoy an empty ship while in Cozumel. We have been to Nachi several times now and we enjoy it very much...but that's because we choose to stay on the ship in Labadee It is very nice to have the Solarium almost completely to yourself without having to fight for lounge chairs or space in the pool.....so do whatever you wish. Think of it this way...you can always do Nachi "next time".....:D

It's usually pretty quiet too as most people go to the beach area. We set up at the pool right from the start and walk to the beach as we want to. There's a swim up bar and nice steps to sit on. I like how the pool at Nachi is a gradual in. The ship pools seem deep to me. And it's beautiful. In fact, my desktop picture right now is the pool at Nachi with the beach behind it taken from my lounge chair and there isn't a soul in the picture. Plus the pool at Nachi is freshwater and that's definitely my preference. But staying on the ship is fun too. I have done that while my husband golfed. They're both a pretty good way to spend the day. :)
casinostreer Posted February 2, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2017 We LOVED Nacho Cocom! A little bit of a drive, but GREAT beach that was empty. Great bar staff and even delicious food! The pool is fantastic and even has a swim up bar! There was only one other family there on the day we went (mid-October.) HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Try a drunken monkey! They'll get you drunk!! Fouremco Posted February 2, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2017 As this is your first cruise, I'd suggest that you take full advantage of your stop in Cozumel to explore. If you aren't enthused about Nachi Cocom, there are many other options for private or RCI excursions. There are some ports we've visited many times, but we still spend at least a half-day ashore. As much as you might enjoy a less crowded ship, I suspect that you'll later regret having missed the opportunity to experience Cozumel.
Mango Tango Posted February 2, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Try Paradise Beach in Cozumel. They have a beautiful pool and nice beach there. You can also parasail from the dock there. We've been there many times.
JoeRum Posted February 2, 2017 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Skip Nachi, go do the Cozumel Bar Hop or stay on the ship at the pool. JoeRum
goldgirl2 Posted February 2, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) We love Nachi!! We would definitely go back there. The food was great. The drinks were plentiful and we met some great people. I had a beach massage and it was the best massage I have ever had. Beautiful facility. No crowds to deal with. They only allow 100 people in. JoshuaA Posted February 2, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2017 When we sailed on DCL, we took a taxi to Paradise Beach in Cozumel for our beach day. They have a nice restaurant and large pool when you get tired of the beach although I find the sand/water in general in Coz not the greatest compared to places like powder/clear water of Varadero or Barbados. Not complaining here, just reference. http://www.paradise-beach-cozumel.com/ It's layout is reminiscent of an AI resort but without the hotel building. There are always taxi's lingering to take you back so no worries there.

I'd make Labadee the pool day and go to Nachi Cocum in Cozumel. Of all the private islands we've been to Labadee ranks near the bottom for us. royalcruz Posted February 2, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 2, 2017 You're doing a beach day and Dunn's River Falls already. Maybe you'd enjoy a ride downtown to walk around, shop for souvenirs, enjoy a Mexican lunch, etc. Or get out in the morning and explore the pier area. It's a really short walk to the Carnival pier (make a right at the main road outside of the terminal), and even nicer over there. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day at the ship pool.
sheezsmith Posted February 2, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Our suggestion would be, skip Nachi and stay on the ship - finding a cab was a hassle and the beach and food was just ok.
champagne123 Posted February 2, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) Get OFF the ship. There are many places to go in Cozumel and have a blast... Paradise Beach is our fav....but do SOMETHING or go SOMEWHERE. You may never have the opportunity again. We have never, ever had a problem getting a cab. micmacmissy Posted February 2, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Okay- you have to listen to everybody and go to Nachi! It is fabulous and Cozumel itself is a great port. Labadee, on the other hand- meh. Make THAT your stay on stay on the ship day. Or better yet, make Falmouth your stay on the ship day!
Clarea Posted February 2, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Our suggestion would be, skip Nachi and stay on the ship - finding a cab was a hassle and the beach and food was just ok. We've never had an issue finding a cab in Cozumel. Walk out of the terminal to the cab line. I can't think of how it could be easier.
MikeNJ1109 Posted February 2, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 2, 2017 As we've cruised more and more, my wife and I have found less and less of the Caribbean ports thrill us ... unless it's an island we haven't been to yet (St. Kitts for example), or if it's Aruba (our favourite), we stay on the ship at each port. There's nothing like a relatively quiet and empty ship for 8 hours ... plenty of lounge chairs by the pool ... attentive service ... oh, and did I mention quiet and empty for 8 hours? Stay on the ship. Michael

BUT....they have never cruised before. To stay on the ship to get enjoyment out of the drink package is silly to me. They have plenty of time to take advantage of it. :)

My understanding of the OP's post was that she was considering a choice between a pool on the ship VS a pool at Cozumel. For that sort of decision, I'd stay on the ship -- but my post was not elegantly phrased, and I didn't quite get that point out. Michael
DrD Posted February 2, 2017 #22 Share Posted February 2, 2017 You can't go wrong either way, we often stay onboard in port. On this cruise since we've only got 3 stops so we are getting off everywhere. For cabs in Cozumel, don't wait on the long line. Just walk past it, go a block or 2 to a hotel, and get a cab there. Or sign up for a ship's tour.

pudy68 Posted February 2, 2017 #24 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Having been to all of those ports multiple times, and in fact, heading there again next month, we are opting to stay onboard at Jamaica. Labadee isn't thrilling us, but since it's just a beach and BBQ day right at the end of the pier, we'll go for it. Cozumel, well, we always head to Paradise Beach and will be doing so this time around, too. But, YOU, you are the newbie cruiser. Why not venture out at all ports, and if you don't like it, then head back to the ship early and get a partial onboard day? You can have it both ways, but at least you won't miss the ports. It's a lot more expensive to make a trip back to see Cozumel, for instance, than to miss a few drinks by the pool in solitude. Just my 2 cents. No matter what you decide, you will have an awesome vacation. Welcome to the cruise life! :D
George C Posted February 2, 2017 #25 Share Posted February 2, 2017 WE love staying on the ship for some ports, love it even more since the drink package. But our next cruise hits 3 islands but only Island we will get off at for sure is Cozumel, lots to do , as already said very easy and cheap to grab a taxi, we just like going downtown lots of nice restaurants and my wife really likes to shop and all the little stores and negotiate a price, they also will normally give us free beer to keep her shopping
