bld24 Posted March 31, 2017 #1158 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Just FYI On the Brillance now. This was supposed to roll out on this cruise according to the RCCL site and it didn't. Same menu and no charge other than the late night charge. The gentleman who delivered coffee to the room today said he was unaware of any changes. Biker19 Posted March 31, 2017 #1162 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Not surprising if it doesn't get implemented on the schedule RCI provided.
nursewurmy Posted March 31, 2017 #1163 Share Posted March 31, 2017 I got this off the Royal Caribbean web site: The Allure charges start April 2nd Q: Is there a charge for room service? A: After March 27th, select sailings will start offering our enhanced room service with exciting new dishes for a delivery charge of $7.95 per stateroom order. Q: When is the new room service menu launching? A: The upgraded room service menu will start rolling out on March 27th and will be available across the fleet by end of May 2017. Q: What are the enhancements of the new room service menus? A: The new room service menu will offer several new dishes including: The Royal Burger, Classic Philly with shaved rib eye, wings with choice of 4 sauces, grilled salmon with cucumber mint yogurt as a healthy option and warm chocolate chip cookies as a decadent dessert. Q: Is there a charge for the new room service for Suite Guests? A: Room service will continue to be complimentary for Grand Suites and above. All other suites will have a delivery charge of $7.95 per stateroom order. Continental breakfast remains complimentary for all. Q: Is the late night room service fee still applicable with the new room service? A: No, all room service requests will be $7.95 whether it's a day, evening or late night request. Q: Why is there a room service charge? A: In our commitment to deliver best in class service and give more value to our guests, we have enhanced our room service menu that will include a $7.95 delivery fee per stateroom order. Q: Are gratuities included in the room service charge? A: Gratuity is included in the delivery charge for room service. Additional gratuities are at the guest's discretion. Ocean Boy Posted March 31, 2017 #1164 Share Posted March 31, 2017 So if the fee is for delivery of the order and not for the food itself then why does it make any difference what food is on the menu or if it is a continental breakfast order? It take the same effort to walk it from the kitchen to the cabin. Maybe the further the cabin from the kitchen the higher the charge should be? RCI should just call it what it is, an increase in the $3.95 late night charge to $7.95 and extending it to any hour of the day or night. It is always smoke and mirrors when RCI introduces new charges just like it was for Johnny Rocket's. Why can't they just be upfront about it? Biker19 Posted March 31, 2017 #1165 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Well, they never said it was for the food itself.
bUU Posted March 31, 2017 #1166 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Why can't they just be upfront about it?Because the typical American consumer reacts negatively to cold, hard facts, and respond positively to marketing language.
Ocean Boy Posted March 31, 2017 #1167 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Well, they never said it was for the food itself. Right, they just create the smoke by talking about enhanced menus and charges in the same sentence.
Ocean Boy Posted March 31, 2017 #1168 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Because the typical American consumer reacts negatively to cold, hard facts, and respond positively to marketing language. Then I guess that I am not typical because I do much better with people being upfront about things. Marketing language makes me feel like the company thinks I'm stupid. Ocean Boy Posted March 31, 2017 #1170 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Are you saying that if someone says, "I'm taking things away from you," your natural response is to thank them and give them more money? Did I say anything even close to that? It is really hard to understand how you would come to that as a possible meaning to my post unless you truly like to be argumentative. bUU Posted March 31, 2017 #1171 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Did I say anything even close to that? Yes, that's indeed what you were stating by saying that you respond to cold, hard facts the way the typical American consumer responds to marketing language. Perhaps you meant to say something else (like there is nothing they can say that would make you feel good about this change)? It is really hard to understand how you would come to that as a possible meaning to my post unless you truly like to be argumentative. The point is that you claimed that you respond well to the hard, cold truth, but the response that the cruise line is going for is, as I indicated, getting more money from people. Your response now indicates that you wouldn't respond to the hard, cold truth that way, so therefore you're effectively saying that the cruise line cannot make inclined to give them more money in light of this change. So they focus on making other people feel good about this change instead, since that's going to be more profitable.
wesnliz Posted March 31, 2017 #1172 Share Posted March 31, 2017 not sure it's been mentioned or not but if everyone were to just order obscene amounts of food from room service menu maybe they would do away with the extra offerings and the room service fee. The best way to fight the fee is to choose another cruise line, and let RCI know when they survey you that that's why you haven't been back cruising with them. If food is left it is most likely of poor quality. It would be no worse than the buffet. Honestly, room service would probably be less waste than the buffet.
