I voted to keep the aft pools for adults only. I don't think kids need to be allowed in ALL of the pools on any ship. Adults deserve a pool to enjoy without kids splashing, cannonballing, screaming, etc. Now if only we could keep the kids out of the hot tubs too.

I would love to sign the petition, but won't because it demands you give your address. There is no need for that. I don't even have my address or city listed on my FB page.

Might want to watch out. Some here consider that hate speech! ;p

So, if the kids can use all adult areas now ... they hang out at the bars and now all the pools and hot tubs, does this mean the adults can go and hang out at the kids clubs? No. Kids already have exclusive areas. Even DISNEY CRUISE LINE has ADULT ONLY POOLS!

Adults still have exclusive areas....Serenity, Casino, Bars/Comedy Clubs after 11 pm...seems to me like adults have more exclusive areas than the kids do. The family pool is not kid exclusive. In fact the main pool area is down right kid inappropriate at times with the games they play there. I can understand some parents not wanting to expose their kids to that. I really don't see the issue with having all the pools in non-Serenity areas being family friendly since ships have limited pool space to begin with. I do think all hot tubs should be at least 13+. IMHO little kids should not be in them for everyone's safety.

I don't care. ;p

I raised two children of my own and have 7 grands and a great-grand on the way. Not a child hater, although I do tolerate other people's misbehaving children less than I used to. :)

The pizza is not back there on the Splendor and there have been very few kids there the 3 cruises I've been on it. And the serenity area has no pools or hot tubs on the Splendor.

But Serenity on the ships in question do not have a pool. Why can't some people comprehend this concept? And kids were not that rambunctious because of pizza and an ice cream machine. They will be though now that they can go snorkeling in the aft hot tubs.

Yup...to both of these points.....and I found the Splendor Aft area to have many less kids even on the deck area which I attributed to no pizza and no ice cream....Tandoor and Deli are aft on Splendor and the only ice cream are midship.

I hate to say this, but although I'll really miss the adult only pool in the aft of the ship, I am sort of in favor of this. Here's why - when my kids were young enough to want to go in the pool on a cruise, I hated like anything to have to have them in the main pool on the Lido deck. The atmosphere was just not relaxing at all. It was always too loud, with blaring music all the time. And so crowded! And because of the way the Lido decks are semi enclosed, the noise and crowds always seemed somewhat overwhelming. The aft deck pool arrangement seems more relaxed, less hectic - better for families to be together and enjoy time in the pool. Yes, it will really be missed as an adult space. But I get it.

That being said, I do wish there was an age limit on the hot tubs. I have never gotten into a hot tub on a cruise without being joined by several children who are using it as a splash pool, or some dope who decides to bring their baby in a swim diaper into the hot tub, necessitating an immediate exit. I wish there was an 18+ limit, and that it was enforced. And that drinks were free, and that I could be carried around the ship on the shoulders of John Heald. ;p

I think a very valid point...it is funny though, we cruised last month and while our child was at kids club or with my mother my hubby and I anticipated spending some quiet time at the adult pool but ended up at the Main pool the whole time because we liked the activities / band and atmosphere much better then the quiet adult pool so it just goes to show you "different strokes for different folks" and that either way Carnival will never win....can't please 'em all....

Bummer that they made this change and also on the Glory removing the small pool by the slides to put in more slides. Had a Carnival cruise last month and taking my adult kids on one in May. We will be moving over to Celebrity after this cruise. It is sad.

If there are no adult only areas, I will only cruise when schools are in session or not cruise at all

This is not the 60's or 70's when our parents would never think of taking us out of school to go on vacation. Vacation was something that was done over the summer. And the only people that would go on vacation at Christmas time were the upper crust that could afford it. These days parents think nothing of taking their precious little angels on a cruise during school time. It started when they took them out for the three days before Thanksgiving and now they think absolutely nothing of taking them out for an entire week. Granted, there will be substantially less children on board then during summer time and school holidays, but there will still be a presence of unruly children because mommy and daddy want to save a little money and not go on a cruise when it costs them more when school is not in session.

I can't grasp this. I was brought up in the 60s 70s and I kept that tradition with my kids in the 90s. Here in NJ, we were limited on how many days they could have off, and after 4 or 5 (I think, can't exactly remember), doctors notes were required. It sucked having to dish out the bucks because your kid had the 24 hr bug and couldn't leave the bathroom. I ran into this problem with one of them.

This is the case in most states now. Truancy has become rampant so states have really cracked down on absences from school with 5 being the maximum before doctor's notes are required, generally speaking. Unfortunately that catches a lot of people that are not actual truant families in the same net, but you know how it goes...one person spoils it for the rest of us!

Schools only get "paid" when a child is actually present. No show no dough.

That being said, as more and more children are educated at charter schools, private schools, and are home schooled, and school districts shuffle the days when school is actually in session it is easy to understand that the traditional schedules for children are impacted.

With cruises pulling their passengers from all 50 states and internationally it is no longer easy to project when kids may be on board a ship. Many schools have the entire week of Thanksgiving off, as well as Christmas. Spring break, once an Easter tradition, now starts in March and continues through April. Some schools start in August and end in May, others September through June. Year round schools have 6 week breaks 3 times a year, with students alternating their break schedules.

What it all means is that kids may be on board a ship any of the 356 days of the year. So it adults want to avoid children they need to change their thinking about what Cruise lines to book....the less activities geared to children the less of them.

As said, often in these threads, Carnival has shown that their business plan is to entice families on board. That may make them a bad choice for those who don't want to sail with families.

Best week to avoid kids is the week AFTER Thanksgiving. They will have cruised the week before. I went on Harmony last year that week and there were very few kids. Plus it is slightly cheaper than Thanksgiving week

The couple of weeks in between Thanksgiving and Christmas in general are among the cheapest weeks during the year to cruise. Should have a low kid count as well.

Every hot tub I've seen at hotels always says age 16+. Small kids don't have the body mass to be in 100 degree water

When is a Carnival lido hot tub ever 100 degrees? Maybe Serenity hot tubs, but the rest are always kept at a family-friendly (i.e. almost too cold for me) temperature.

I have actually never seen a hot tub at a hotel restricted to 16+, unless there was a separate family hot tub, but I have not stayed in many expensive hotels, so there might be a difference. Waterpark hotels typically have one adult-only hot tub kept very hot and one family-friendly hot tub kept at bathtub temp. Carnival takes a similar approach.
