Rainy/windy Muster Drill?

Recommended Posts

Have never been on a cruise with rain & wind on embarkation day. What do they do on the Explorer if it's raining? Generally we muster outside on Deck 5, which has an overhang... but if it's windy we could still get pretty wet. Should I pack a couple of rain ponchos?

Thanks for any info...

I will disagree about the muster never being dependent on weather conditions. Twice on Grandeur we have been inside because of weather. Once there was a torrential rain storm. A few months back a very sudden hailstorm brought us indoors. The casino, theater, centrum and dining room were used for the muster drill. Both times there would have been very angry and very wet passengers had we not been brought inside. Katherine

This was my experience on Grandeur as well - last sailing was hail and muster was indoors. They pointed out the actual deck stations as we exited the theater afterwards.

Traveling with 5 other first time RC cruisers (though all experienced cruising on other lines). Please clarify...

1. Make sure you have weather appropriate clothing in carry-on bag

2. Does RC have you take your life jackets with you (carrying them, not wearing of course!)?

Thank you!

Would they have been angry if there had been a serious incident at sea and had no idea where they were supposed to go for muster ? Or it was raining at the time ?

Surprised they didn't make them go to their actual stations

I would just have to take the chance that we will have good weather and no rain because I am not going to start adding ponchos or rain gear to my packing list also. I really don't believe if there was a heavy wind blowing rainstorm that they would make people stand out there and get soaked. I really think they would move it inside!

Emergencies happen in all weather conditions, therefore, muster must go on in the same conditions!

But seriously, we always pack a rain poncho. They cost about a dollar at the dollar store. We always have a bunch. Keep some in the car also. They stay in the suitcase in side pocket. They weigh next to nothing. After you use it once, it's best just to toss it. I would never even think of worrying about the muster drill with a little rain. I would just stand behind someone to block the rain from hitting me!

In late February we were on Grandeur and it was raining during muster - still were outside on deck. Just a few minutes after assembling, it started thundering and lightning like crazy...then the hail started. The staff quickly ushered everyone into the dining room and/or theater and completed the instructions there. It was the first time we were moved inside during any rain, but the determining factor was the lightning.

Both times the location of the muster station was pointed out to passengers as they were escorted to a much less wet location. Just what I experienced -- can't vouch for other ships.

you believe incorrectly.. on GR twice it was crap weather( hey Its Baltimore in Winter) we were still outside in the heavy wind , once with sleet. and on Liberty out of Galveston once, again heavy rain

Muster on the Quantum out of Cape Liberty was inside in various food venues. I assume that Anthem is also. I also remember a Celebrity cruise where muster was indoors. Weather was not a factor, that was just where it was held.

When the Navigator was still sailing from Galveston, departure day had a tropical storm hit the night before and that day. The starboard side of the ship received the wind and heavy rain and we were directed to the dining room. The port side of the ship still went outside. They should not have had the brunt of the storm since the ship shielded them, but it was still not a nice day to be outside for them. It turned out that we did not leave until the next day because the channel was closed.

We had a muster on the Mariner in Galveston that was on the cold and rainy side. Even with an overhang, those who showed up late and delayed things did not win fans.
