Carnival Corp lost some $$$ tonight

I am mightily confused. I read the OP's post to say he is upset because Carnival didn't allow him to transfer his OBC for booking on board to a different cruise.

Maintaining this particular OBC has always been one of the major attractions of booking on board. I know in two different instances I have had to remind them of the source of the OBC when price-matching, upgrading, and making cabin changes, since you automatically lose promotional OBC if you price match to an offer that doesn't include it.

Carnival's brilliant new benefits of booking on board specifically state this will no longer be the case. Are they not honoring it for people who booked on board previous to the new policy?

Perhaps I totally misunderstood the OP. Goodness knows I've done that before.

Our scenario was different. We had an inexperienced agent at Carnival. She failed to convey change in deposit terms. So since we did not put extra deposit down the cruise was cancelled without notification. When this came to light Carnival would not reinstate at our original booked rate. So I often refer they fired us as their guests. Best thing to ever happen and don't miss them one bit.

Actually thats exactly what happened with my on ncl, so I guess stuff happens on everyline.

To catch everyone up:

It was the same cabin type, rate etc. on a different cruise. Both 14-day Journeys cruises in 2018: the original to the Panama Canal booked in February, 2017 (under the previous on-board booking program) and the desired one to Alaska in August. This was not a sale fare, etc, and the Alaska cruise fare was $500 more than the PC cruise. Carnival has allowed these changes in the past, and I have made them without problems.

I booked under the Military rate so all the mee-mees screaming about my deposit being non-refundable are wrong, and if they don't believe me, they can see the letter posted above.

I don't hate Carnival and may cruise them again if the itinerary and price suit.

To anyone who is glad Carnival is sticking it to me, I had your same attitude before this on-board booking change took place. Some change will come along to screw you over too, so. enjoy!

Be sure to look at the details in the Celebrity drink package. They have at least two alcholoic ones. Alot of folks end up upgrading to get what they want. Just one of those details that might make one angry later.

Thanks. We're not planning on rolling on the floor. It'll be Alaska. A few beers, some Irish coffee, and wine with dinner is all we'll need :)

Nobody is sticking anything to you.

Carnival has chosen to abide by their own policies, and not grant you an exception.

I would be curious to know exactly WHY you think an exception should be made for you?

Thanks to OP for clarifying. Those who have responded that they are glad Carnival is to be commended for following their own terms and conditions remind me of cheerleaders at a junior high football game who are hollering DEFENSE when their own team has the ball.

Until you actually read what I've written, and ask questions based on same, you can remain curious.

I don't think anyone thinks that. People are just tired of these self created victims. They do things knowings the restrictions and when an exception is not made for them they need to run off to a safe space to process it.

If there is a process for something you should expect it will be followed, any bending or changing is pure good will and not to be expected. On the other hand the lack of change does not make you a victim.

Did you read anything I wrote? No exception was being asked of Carnival. I requested something allowed under the fare I booked under the old system. The changes last week shouldn't have affected that whatsoever. You are the one reading others' erroneous "facts" into it.

And how am claiming to be a victim? I booked another cruise, sooner, for less money and better perks. I am getting a full refund from Carnival. I posted this to make others aware of what Carnival is doing and that there are other options out there. I didn't get suckered into Early saver like a lot of the non-reading responders to this thread, so a victim I am not.

So, which onboard rules do you want "stringently" enforced? And do you want Carnival to "stringently" enforce all the rules for you as well?

The dress code, the smoking policy, the chair hog policy, the no diapers in pools policy, etc. And they don't need to enforce the rules for me since I follow them anyway.

So why should Carnival, or *any* cruise line for that matter, make an exception for you?

They will resell your cabin, so they have really lost nothing, except having to deal with a self-entitled complainer.

The attitude you display seems to be prevalent amongst many Carnival guests, especially on other social media sites. If anyone brings up a concern or complaint they are beaten to death and labeled as entitled, mostly by people who don't even know what the word means, lol.

OP, good luck on Celeb! I was able to move my deposit with carnival no problem at all; the cruise I moved to was a higher rate, but I had no issues at all. Sorry to see they weren't more understanding of the situation and able to come to a happy resolution.

We were booked on the Dream out of NOLA for this weekend, last month my two physician specialists told me that I was unable to sit and fly longer than an hour, therefore we had to cancel this cruise. Upon cancelling I stressed that I want to change ships and explained the fact I can fly to south Florida for under a hour flight time and would like to choose another ship and would pay penalty fees if needed just so we can replace this cruise with another Carnival cruise. They denied this to us, we paid the Penalty to cancel, Carnival immediately given back the portion refund and thankfully we had the insurance which we received the remaining amount of the cruise within sixteen days. We are platinum you would think they would want to keep business with us, but they just didn't care, therefore, we chose the Harmony of the Seas a much bigger, nicer and newer ship, its Carnivals fault. Yes, they did get somebody to book up the two rooms we cancelled but what they lost was us spending money on their drink package, they lost the money of us going every night to the Steakhouse as well as the gambling we do on the ship along with all the other spending, its their loss and my gain. But quite honestly, going back on the Oasis class ships and RC having two newer ships coming out the next year, I think Carnival has lost a lot of our business, its just not smart on their part, but again, our gain so thanks Carnival for being greedy and not allowing us choose another Carnival cruise.

Don't fool yourself, all cruise lines have the same attitude to dead presidents. There are no exceptions.

The way it should be in the For Profit business world. Everyone is expendable if he/she can be replaced at minimum cost.

I just priced the X cruise that OP is on and it came out to $3600 (forward balcony). Can't compare it to CCL since they have no Alaska sailings at that time. I'll certainly look at X the next time we book and if it's close I'll give them a try, especially if I can get X for less.

My previous Alaska cruises were in May (DH hasn't been), and that was a great time to go because I saw lots of whales, bears, moose, mountain goats and other assorted wildlife. Since we are in to that kind of stuff, when the Carnival cruise fell through (it was only offered in 8/18) we decided to book a 7-day around Memorial Day, 2018.

We're in a mid-ship balcony.

I am glad you are happy but I wouldn't consider the Celebrity cruise to be less than the Carnival cruise since the Carnival cruise is 14 days long (unless I am misunderstanding something). I know that DW would be thrilled to see all of that wildlife (and to be truthful, so would I:D).

Thanks. I'm looing forward to trying some new lines.

The Carnival lemmings don't bother me that much. Once faced with evidence and facts, they tend to go silent. I'm still waiting for an apology from the one who defied me to prove I was getting my $ refunded...

This cruise was the same rate/higher price. I believe the on-board OBC booking change is the culprit.

Is what you are saying is you booked on board under the old policy at the Past Guest or similar type rate and received OBC for booking while on board. Now because of their new policies, Carnival is not allowing the OBC to transfer to a new booking but you received a full refund since you booked a Past Guest type rate. So what you are out is the OBC?

I booked on board under the old policy 2 weeks ago. I guess I should expect the same thing when I decide to finalize my next cruise plans and switch the current booking to Early Saver or change to another itinerary. I have always done this and the flexibility always worked for me. Hopefully Carnival retreats on these changes. It was fun managing my cruises under their old policies because it kept my options opened. I do not like these new restrictions. :(

Thank you for alerting us to your experience because it will help those of us in the same boat (pun intended). ;)
