Eden

Is there anyone besides me out there that wishes they would just cut out this esoteric teasing and show us a deck plan of the public spaces. ALL the public spaces?

For instance, when was the last time you were on an X ship that did not have the MDR aft on decks 3, 4 or 5? So how does that fit in with Eden?

Releasing info on different aspects separately maximises the marketing as they get numerous bouts of publicity rather than just one chunk in one go. A bit like teaser trailers for upcoming movies. Not great for us that just want to see the whole ship but good for those seeking the publicity.

As has been said Eden looks to be an advancement of the Royal 270 venue which also occupies a couple of decks at the rear with their restaurants being mid-ship. Much better to make use of the wonderful views from the AFT with a multipurpose venue rather than a dining room.

From what I've seen I like the Eden concept very much.

Although I thought the concept looks interesting, with the large views of the sea, I also want to be able to be OUTSIDE other than the pool deck. Will there still be a buffet area with outside seating? And did you notice, it seemed that every "model" walking around was younger, many with blue jeans and tennis shoes, even in the evening pictures? (I even saw one young woman with a RIP in her jeans!) I saw women in little black dresses and heels talking to the guy in a sweater and jeans....maybe that is what happens at clubs these days, I don't go anymore. I will watch again to see if there were ANY older people at all! I do hope Edge is going to go somewhere besides the Caribbean, so I am still waiting to see more of it's schedule before I book.

The dining venues on Q class RCI ships are aft, under 270.

From the description of Eden on the Celebrity website it seems there will be an outside area linked to the lounge area:

Three stories of windows that look out to the ocean, with two areas of al fresco seating on both sides of Eden for breathing in the refreshing salt breezes.

I suppose it comes down to the definition of aft and mid ship.

Very interesting.

It seems to me Eden will be one large space that will encompass several of Celebrity’s old venues.

Café Al Bacio

Qsine

World Class Bar

Hideaway

And finally, dare I say it.

Sky Lounge

Yep, I think this is going to be one (1) very busy space and we are very excited about this newest addition… What an awesome way to share the aft views with everybody!

I am very afraid that the main dining room experience will be considered too traditional and we will only have specialty dining plus a "free buffet" Eden takes up a lot of room. There is not much left if you account for an auditorium, casino, shops, etc. We are booked on the Edge for a B2B but I am looking for a back up plan!

Thanks, kk99, for the Eden FAQs. A couple of questions, comments:

I guess I missed the Lookout Points in the video and description. Could someone describe them please?

If children are allowed, the entertainment likely isn't too risqué. :)

It sounds like a nice space - I like the idea of lots of different areas on different levels (with an elevator - glad it's ADA compliant so all can enjoy), with inside and outside dining, lounges, nightclub, etc. I picture lots of nooks and crannies to read, relax and meet up with friends during the day. At first I was a bit overwhelmed with a totally new concept, but am getting excited about the adventure of it all.

We are also booked on a B2B, which we might need to explore all the new things on this ship. My fear is that this is a new ship and very innovative so one or both of our cruises may be chartered (it happened before to us on a new ship at the same time of year). Hopefully, we will at least have one remaining, but will have a back up plan.

I followed the link to your post 120 and read your comment "I wonder if the freaks who do like it would be a regular base of cruisers...."

I find your calling others "freaks" because they like the concept extremely offensive; Probably as offensive as you found the video.

And yes I will continue to be a frequent X cruiser and I am a woman & didn't find the video demeaning.

The video I found offensive was the one of the Box club party or whatever it was called ...allegedly owned by the entertainment company being used for Edge..,The snake and other schtick I can ignore, but that was one way out night club! Never saw anything like that before,,., X rated ....see below

http://www.theboxnyc.com/

Iff children are invited to Eden...doubt it will be like that on board..,thank goodness!

Really? A cruise line that eliminates a free MDR dinner experience would crash and die. There is lots of room left. I'm guessing you will love your B2B

Hi everyone,

My TA sent me the statistic sheet on Eden. I think that it will be a nice space taking elements from RCCL 270 venue and making it a multi use space through the day and evening.

I believe that dining will probably be on the decks below Eden (3 and 4) and the ship appears to have plenty of other spaces to be revealed on decks 3, 4 ,5 as well as places on the forward upper decks for either another lounge or specialty restaurants and the spa.

I am looking forward to what is new and different from the prior classes of ships. I do think that when the Eden entertainments is debuted , what works will be kept and changes will be quickly made when it does not.(For instance the bartenders going up and down a ladder to snip a garnish for a drink seems sort of faddish) I am hoping for more live music in many places all over the ship. There will be a separate nightclub called Club 45 that is not part of Eden

I believe the look out points from the sketches are just seating chairs and nooks that look directly out to the ocean.

I think for those who do not want to see the Eve at Eden show at night, there will be plenty of other things to do.

I remember being on the Solstice inaugural and being wowed, and I hope for the same reaction on the Edge inaugural.

From a UK site it says that in the morning that there will be wireless headphones for soothing music live performances. So Silent Disco without the disco while you are enjoying your morning coffee or reading a book in one of the look out points.

Here's hoping they reveal more deck details sooner rather than later.

It looks interesting, but I foresee a number of problems:

(1) nobody has mentioned this, but it makes the aft view of the ship really ugly

Do you have a pic of the aft please?

(2) someone has already mentioned that all these ramps and stairs are neither efficient nor friendly to the mobility-challenged [did you notice how young all these designers are? do they have a clue how the average-age cruise passenger gets around?]

You raise an interesting point. Speaking as a 42 year old I believe I'm in the current Celebrity target demographic, though I've always thought Celebrity have failed in recent years to attract the number of 30 to 40 somethings they want. I strongly suspect that senior management have given the designers a very ambitious design brief that doesn't quite match the average age of existing passengers. Perhaps LLP and co should have walked the designers passed the MDR at dinner time so they could see the large collection of scooters and chairs etc!

(3) the restaurant cuisine sounds too adventurous for many current Celebrity passengers [sea Urchin with dry ice garnish, served on a bowl of live fish anyone?] -- look at the Princess forum to see the negative reaction that has frozen the rollout of Curtis Stone's Share restaurants there.

If I'm honest I'm all for a more adventurous menu. I like my seafood fresh, but maybe not quite so fresh as you describe! :D

(4) people have been complaining that unlimited beverage packages have slowed service -- imagine the impact of the bartender climbing the ladder on the 20-foot tall Library of Plants to get fresh garnish for every drink!

Indeed. I'd be less than impressed if service was slowed by some gimmicky Tarzan act.

(5) the entertainment budget has been cut back dramatically on all Celebrity ships, so where are they getting all these performance artists, aerial artists, digeridoo beatboxers [i kid you not], roller skaters, sitar players, etc. for the Eden entertainment throughout the day and night?

I've just invited some friends to join us on our Edge sailing. At $5,199 for a 7 night sailing in an S1 I think it's easy to see where the new and very generous entertainment budget may have come from.

The bottom line: if Celebrity delivers on all these promises, the cost of operating Edge will be far higher than the S-class ships. So the price peaks we have been seeing for the inaugural season cruises are probably what will be normal for these ships going forward. Maybe that will be a good business plan for the young crowd that is starting to make big bucks in their careers and can move up from Carnival, NCL and RCL -- but it sure isn't the Celebrity we have come to know and love :(

Is this not LLP's vision though? A more upscale line aimed at a well healed younger crowd? I'm struggling to think of a line with this target market right now. Perhaps she has seen an opportunity? Maybe it will work, maybe not. But for arguments sake, lets assume it does. I'm not so sure it will be replicated on S and M class ships so at least people will still have choices which is always a very good thing.

Disclaimer: You can like the new area and all the offerings it has. That's fine. This comment is on my impression of the area - specifically their after dark offering. The solution for me is simple though. Cancel my b2b, right?

The one thing that really rubs me the wrong way is the "adult entertainment" after dark. The "Fall of Man" theme represents the worst the real Eden could have been. Terms like "Sinful" and "Devilish" in their advertising just go against anything I'd like to see or anything I'd be willing to pay for as part of my cruise fare. Eden could have been a paradise with man and nature living in harmony and beauty. For some bizarre reason, they decided to go the hedonistic route though. I've sent an email to the Captain's Club asking about what sort of adult sinful and devilish activities they are planning. I'll let you know if they write back.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think you're overreacting. Frankly, I loved the snake/apple promo! And the mildly hedonistic approach am sure will be no more risqué than any performance of the cirque de soliel. Is that problematic for you as well?

Also, Eve ate the apple! So I think a little culinary temptation, as well as a lively atmosphere, is justified. Also, to me the space looks like a well designed, architectural embodiment of harmony and beauty.
