tamtot Posted July 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2017 We are finally planning our first Southern Caribbean cruise! We are mid 50s ( not sure whether that matters) but would love input on which ship we should choose for this cruise[emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
JoyMouse Posted July 1, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2017 You really can't go wrong with either ship. I would recommend going with whichever itinerary interested you more. I personally would lean towards Jewel, but that's just because I prefer Radiance class. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
tamtot Posted July 1, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Thank you so much. The itineraries both look great. I've never tried Radiance class so that interests me
Langley Cruisers Posted July 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Completely agree with JoyMouse. Radiance class ships are wonderful because of the outdoor seating in the Windjammer buffet. It is incredible to have dinner out there (or coffee and dessert) and watch the sunset in a different port each night. Truly outstanding. Plus we appreciate all the windows and glass of Radiance class ships. Jewel is beautiful and she has shower doors as opposed to shower curtains, which two of her sisters have (personal preference). My husband says he sometimes misses the Royal Promenade, but you quickly get used to the smaller ship and differences.
Redbeard the Pirate Posted July 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2017 if you snorkel or dive go to bonnaire and aruba if its offered.
Clarea Posted July 1, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Last time I looked at the itineraries, Jewel did not go to Aruba/Curacao, so that pushed us to Adventure.
davekathy Posted July 1, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2017 We've sailed both ships so for us it would be a tough call. You can't go wrong with either ship or intiineries. We'd pick the itinerary or itineraries we liked better and cruise on that ship.
Rare island lady Posted July 1, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 1, 2017 I had that choice also. And picked Jewel for next January. Radiance class is our favorite. Flights booked! :)
Lily14 Posted July 1, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Jewel is our favorite ship and we've done the Southern Caribbean on her twice. However, we are booked on Adventure for January 2019 because we want to do the ABC islands. The Jewel itineraries usually only has one sea day while Adventure usually has two. Grandma Dazzles Posted July 1, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Sailed a Radiance class ship last year and although pretty with sea views, etc. found it to feel more crowded. Really missed the main promenade and entertainment such as the ice show offered on the bigger ships.
maggieq Posted July 1, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 1, 2017 I would also go with the itinerary you like best. We are looking at the freedom out of San Juan next May.

But RCCL cancelled the sailing as she is going back to dry dock. Switched to Jewel Jan 28th. We chose the Adventure because we loved the Explorer and hubby loves the royal promenade. We will have to see about the Jewel. I know we would have preferred St Maarten over St Thomas. But we are excited to be back with RCCL. Last 5 or 6 cruises have been Celebrity. Do like their free drink pgk perk!!! I wonder of RCCL will offer any discounts on the drink pkg for our sailing? I think it will be a full ship with the Adventure cancelling....

Didn't want to give up Aruba and Curacao, but we did have to give up Bonaire. RC would not let us switch to a cruise a week earlier that included Bonaire. happymanitee Posted July 1, 2017 #15 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Or, you could sail on Freedom of the Seas if you aren't going until May 2018 or later. I like Freedom Class better than Adventure of the Seas, but I've never been on Jewel or that class, so I can't compare that one.
mattpro Posted July 1, 2017 #16 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Adventure caveat: The Adventure will not be sailing the southern Caribbean in 2019. The itinerary will be taken over by the Freedom starting in November 2018.

cb at sea Posted July 1, 2017 #20 Share Posted July 1, 2017 If you like an OPEN roofed solarium, so you can tan, then take Adventure. If having the solarium "under glass" is what you'd like...go Jewel!
crosby99 Posted July 2, 2017 #21 Share Posted July 2, 2017 Both would be great Jewel slightly less guests and on small islands that is a positive.
