I would normally purchase 1 ultimate or deluxe drink package...

There are two of us, always get a jr suite and we bring on board our two bottles of wine for my wife.

But I cant order just 1 drink package for our April cruise, it applies the 25% per...

Q is, when on board are you able to purchase a deluxe drink package for 1?

Most likely not, though they may let you get by with one Deluxe and one Refreshment.

Was told yesterday that all passengers in the stateroom MUST purchase the ALCOHOL package if one does. One alcohol and one royal replenishment is NO.

This stinks, but it is the current policy...

Online yes, but many people have had success calling in and getting one Deluxe (Alcohol) and one Refreshment (the middle tier, soda + specialty coffees, teas, water, etc.)

If an agent refuses to do one alcohol and one refreshment I'd just call back and try with a different agent. I haven't heard of anybody getting them to allow 1 Deluxe and 1 Replenishment (Soda package)

I was on the phone YESTERDAY with a senior corporate member of RCCL. The policy stands as I stated It. They review policies at year's end and will take into account any customer feed back.

I would like to hear from anyone who has been able to get one premium alcohol (they are all one package now) and one royal replenishment recently. We were able to do that on our earlier cruises before the new policy went into effect.

I had purchased the Refreshment package for myself and my teen back in the summer. With in the last month after the change I was able to call in and add the alcohol for my husband only. The didn't even ask about me buying the higher package. I said I was calling to buy him a package and they added it no questions asked.

Hmmm, maybe that's a technique that would work in the OP's case.

Word of warning on how they are playing around with prices on the drink package. They are now advertising buy one, get one half off for my cruise, but it says it's built in to the daily price of $42. A month ago, that price was $41pp without the buy one get one half off marketing scheme. I put it into my cart thinking it would be a total daily cost of $63, just to check really as my travel partner isn't much of a drinker. That's an easy no thanks since we both have to buy. She's not in recovery or anything, just someone who might have one drink here or there, not interested in the package.

They used to allow only 1 to buy a package...but folks cheated so much, the said EVERYONE of drinking age must buy some sort of package if only 1 wants it. If the 2nd person doesn't drink, then it's probably better to have NO package..simply buy the drinks you want, when you want them.

The "refreshment" package has sodas included....so if the "non-drinker" will be drinking copious amounts of "for fee" drinks...that's a way around the whole package issue. But, if regular coffee/tea, ice water, etc...is all the other person might drink...just pay for the 1st person's alcohol as you go. You'll save money in the long run.

Exactly. Unless they have some super sale (doubt it) or they change their policy (doubt it) that is exactly what we plan on doing..

My husband and I are sailing in April on the Freedom of the Seas. When the drink packages were on sale after Thanksgiving, I was able to purchase the alcohol package for my husband and the Refreshment package for myself.

We have purchased a drink package for me and a soda package for hubby for two cruises late in 2018. The packages were not purchased together and they were purchased after the change came into affect. I actually was able to lower the price twice during the Black Friday week. No one has questioned me at all about only having one drink package.

My husband has not drank in 35 years so I would never purchase two drink packages, it would be a huge waste.

Did you buy your husband's soda package before you bought your Deluxe package? Just wondering how you were able to get around the website not allowing one Deluxe package to be purchased.

Is this new ruling just for the alcohol packages?

I always purchase the refreshment package, my hubby is happy with the free offerings and buying an occasional drink.

So far, I've only seen it reported in the case of the alcohol package.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding what is being asked. I first purchased my drink package by calling the 800 number. I called back to change the price and it was at that time I also added the soda package for hubby. They asked if I would like to and I just figured I would do it and get it done. They never said it couldn't be a soda package and that is what I purchased for him.

From that point on, I phoned to make changes twice. Once was purely for price and the other was to change the Wi-Fi from my package to the soda package as that would save me $$ as well. both of those changes were Black Friday week, I believe the first was the Thursday and the second change was actually on Black Friday. Everything was done after the changes to the plans were announced and no one has ever questioned my choices. Maybe I'm just getting lucky??

ETA--I will also add that we are going on a B2B and the same purchases were made for both sailings.

Our next cruise is April, San Juan 7 nts, and an August Mediterranean 12 nt - and purchasing two can add up and almost as much as the cruise.

All good suggestions, I will call and see if I can purchase one deluxe package and/or add a refreshment package.

I also have CR VIP and know all drinks from there are free - just a hassle when its not open, or on pool deck and will have to go to Casino to get a drink....

Yes, you're understanding what I'm asking, I'm just trying to figure out why they didn't require you to purchase two packages

Did you order your drink package a while back?

Original purchase was a week after the announcement about the change. I hadn't planed to purchase it so soon but thought I should give it a try early in the game. That was for my drink package. The next change, with the purchase of the soda package, was about a month later.

I have to say, I keep expecting them to tell me I need to change my packages every time I phone in but as of yet they have not questioned me.

Maybe you were so early to make the initial purchase that it snuck by before they were up to speed.

Thanks for the info.

I just phoned in today and purchased the deluxe package for my wife, the rep said all adults had to have some package ( did not need to be alcohol) if one wanted deluxe, but since I already had replenish, it was perfectly fine. I do wonder what would happen if I now go back and wanted to cancel my replenish package, as it shows up to cancel on my cruise planner.

We are doing a B2B next year, the first part has fewer sea days. I purchased on line for the second. On line I was only able to buy two deluxe packages. A few weeks ago I rang and was able to cancel one of the packages and substitute for a refreshment package. Then i was able to purchase a Deluxe package and refreshment for the first week.

I passed on the info to our travelling companions, they were able to do the same.

I used an 0800 number that Bob had posted some time ago.
