Seaside Caribbean Inaugural Detailed Review - 12/23 - 12/30/2017

Very informative review. I have only once been on an inaugural cruise, Enchantment of the Seas, many years ago. I suppose I didn't realize how that affects dining room service at the time. Looking back, the service was a bit chaotic and slower than usual. I'm hoping the kinks will be worked out by the time I sail on the Seaside next December. I really loved the Divina's entertainment and I am actually glad they kept some of the Italian Opera flavor on this ship too. There are some Americans who actually enjoy that type of entertainment, believe it or not.

Great information in your comprehensive review. I hope that MSC corporate and Seaside officers correct the problems that were indicated. We're on Seaside in May, and I'm 50/50 on staying with MSC or doing NCL.

Thanks so much for your excellent review!

On Boatding Day did you notice if they had somewhere to store your carry on luggage while you went to lunch? We experienced this on our Divina cruise on Nov. 25 and it was a big help.

They did have a hand luggage drop off area. It was a table on deck 6 where you board.

Thank you for such an informative and thorough review. I found it very helpful. It does tend to cement my view that going on a brand new ship is something of a gamble. As a linguist and a professional singer, I am actually looking forward to hearing opera and speaking languages other than English. As the OP points out, a lot depends on your expectations. Clearly the shortcomings weren’t too bad since they’ve booked two more sailings on the same ship. Thanks again for the review, it was excellent!

Thanks for writing such a detailed review. Hopefully some of the service problems will be improved over time. One question, did you try the F1 simulator or bowling? Or notice prices on them or if they had long lines?

We did not use them. It was quite expensive and they did not offer the full cruise unlimited package. Not sure the exact prices. Lines were never long for them.

Hi, thank you for your extended review!

Is it true that smoking is permitted in all exterior places like balconies and decks?

Not at all. There is one side of the deck 7 pool area allowing it, and one part of a deck above the other pool. No balconies.

Ports:

In all of our cruises, we had never made it to Antigua. It is a beautiful island. We took a transfer from MSC to Dickenson’s Bay beach, which was $15.90 per person. They took us at 9:45 AM and returned us at 1:30 PM. The beach was right next to Sandals Resort, and it was perfect. They charge $22 for 2 chairs and an umbrella (we did not use this, as we were in the water and building sand castles the whole time). There is a snack stand which is crazy overpriced for food. Back near the port, there is an old casino which we had a great time in. $5 tables, free drinks, and fun atmosphere.

St. Thomas was as usual. We docked at Havensight. No excursions for us here.

Nassau was Nassau. Got off the ship, went to Dunkin Donuts for a much needed iced coffee, walked a few rows of the straw market, and headed back onboard to enjoy the empty pool and slides.

We very much prefer western itineraries personally, but this cruise was about the ship and the family time, not the ports!

Are all the venues open all day on Port Days? I'm particularly interested in the Thermal Spa and whether we can use it while in port.

Thanks!
