How do feel if you are the only few who had paid more for your cruise

I pay for my cabin what I feel is a good price and never concern myself that others may have paid less. Since we all choose a category that we like from Inside to Suite, everyone on a cruise will pay different prices depending on when they booked. They could have booked when the dates opened to closer to the cruise dates so prices will fluctuate in certain categories. I check prices regularly yet only twice have I received a price drop.

I have booked my cruise vacation before final payment. After final payment, guarantee stateroom was opened for selection which was way much cheaper than what I had paid. I took the highest priced balcony. No option to upgrade as suite are fully sold. I don't need any OBC as I had fully paid for everything, wifi and gratuities. FYI, I don't mind random room assignment as I am not fussy if I can save that $$.

 

I consoled myself saying I get to choose the best balcony of all rooms but I just don't feel too happy if people around me is paying so much lesser.

 

Never put a dime down on any cruise if you are not satisfied with the price. Sure they can go down and they can go up. Sometimes you're lucky and sometimes you're not. Just like buying a TV and a month later you see it on sale...

The second sentence says that if royal offers obc instead of upgrading, that that can be like a price drop because you can use it towards things you buy. Was relevant as an option to a price drop or upgrade.

You can't have it both ways - either the cabin cat and location are important to you or they aren't. If people are dead set on getting exactly what they want, then they can't cry when unsold cabins open up later on.

 

For me it depends on the itinerary. I would never, never book a Caribbean cruise before final payment - too many ships and too many cabins and deals out there, but I have booked in advance on exotic cruises or itineraries that are only offered once or twice a season. It's been my experience that it pays off to book early and watch prices. If they do drop, it's generally for insides on those cruises.

Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. A friend of mine’s cruise went down $820, but she was too late to get the discounted price. She wasn’t happy, but next time she may be the one getting the discount. Don’t let price control you, but always keep looking. I totally understand!!!

It is normal to try and get a better price and has nothing to do with age...just smart economics!

No 2 cabins cost the same....it is like airline seats! When you book, you accept a fare that is ok with you....sure, there will be those who pay less, but there will be those who paid more, too!

That's not true. Many times guaranties are given to anyone that cancels last minute. The cabin could be best on the ship

 

The first time our friends went with us we did guarantee rate and they wound up with an aft cabin.

Not in our experience. Have been allocated great rooms.

Guaranteed rooms are cheaper because they do not include the “free” drinks packages or what ever promo they are running!

By the way, you can also use on board credit to purchase shore excursions. If they offer that rather than upgrading there are definitely uses for it! Or you could splurge on some specialty dining that you otherwise would have skipped.

Thanks. I have no intention to do any shore excursions as it is only a 3 nights cruise and I want more ship time as we are not keen on visiting the shore. Sadly, we are not into food. I am going with my sister and both of us suffer from a certain degree of food allergies. Drinks not our cup of tea either. We just want the ocean and so me time away from work and kids. Moreover, the OBC offered to us is nothing compared to the $$ we may have saved if we waited till last minute.

 

Well, I guess life is like that. Can't win all the time. Just want to share how we feel.

Thanks. We are still looking forward to our first cruise with RC. And yes, it is a nice Aft balcony cabin we have chosen. Just that I can't help feeling that little tinge of sadness.

If you spend the OBC in the casino gambling each game on both red and black you will nearly get your money back. I’ve been told the won chips can be converted to real money.

Not a good strategy with OBC as the roulette wheels have 0 and 00 (green) and you could lose all your money.

If they are lost at the end of the cruise anyhowyoubare better off trying this than nothing. The propability of loosing everyting is less if you gamble for the minimum amount each time.

There are other ways to get your OBC back. Just ask for a slots voucher. Insert voucher into slot machine and hit payout and take the new slip and get cash. You don’t even have to do a spin.

Wait until after final payment and book a guarantee price. May be higher, may be lower, may be a no go as cruise is sold out. But I would venture to guess that you aren't part of "the only few who paid more." Ships, by final payment are usually close to full capacity. That's often why they offer guarantees, no more cabins left to reserve. We leave on Jan. 20 on Freedom. I booked in April of last year. The price never got lower and, in fact, some of our friends who hesitated paid significantly more and had worse room selection. So, as far as I know, I was one of the "only few" who paid less for the cruise. But I really don't know WHAT, other than our close friends, ANYONE paid for the cruise.

I booked a Member’s cruise years ago on the Explorer for 11 nights. I booked an inside cabin for $399 pp. This was after final payment. I knew people that paid almost $1000 for an inside cabin. I felt kind of guilty, but, not enough pass it up. I’m not that crazy. Best deal and cruise we’ve ever had.
