Actually dressy dark or white jeans (with nice shoes for men and heels or dressy sandals) are fine for the MDR. Never worn out, ripped jeans and Tshirts IMO

What actually is the protocol? You won't see many people wearing jeans and t-shirts (if any) in the MDR. For the seven night cruise I brought two pairs of chinos (dark khaki and grey), a dark grey sportcoat, two polo shirts and 4 button down shirts. I could have gotten away with my dark jeans, but I find it nice to get a bit more dressed up.
riclop Posted February 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2018 On the Divina people wore shorts on non gala nights and we have been on the Divina 7x.
JayceeP Posted February 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2018 I wear suits 5 days a week at work so I'll be wearing nice jeans and an untucked dress shirt to my meals except for formal night of course. How about kids and teenagers? Are they expected to wear a suit or are nice khakis with a tucked in dress shirt sufficient?

Yeah... that's a little too casual for me in a MDR, even on non-formal night. I'm surprised they allowed the family in.

For a minute I thought I was on the Carnival board....LOL.... Every cruise line has the same problem. Either people don't care....or just want to "push the issue"!! Debde Posted February 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2018 I have never once, for any cruise line packed khakis for my husband. Nice jeans, polo shirts and/or collared shirts and shoes have always gotten us in any restaurant. He has not looked out of place either. This goes for my two sons also. We will avoid formal or elegant nights-whatever you call them. Still-I have seen that we would not be in the minority not dressing formal on these nights.

How about kids and teenagers? Are they expected to wear a suit or are nice khakis with a tucked in dress shirt sufficient? My son wore a pair of khakis and a polo shirt for most dinners and wore a button down shirt for the formal night. For shoes we just had him in a pair of triple black Converse All-Stars. My daughter loves wearing dresses, so she was not an issue.

Just because you can do something... doesn't always mean you should. Not everyone want to be the lowest common denominator.
plantlady104 Posted February 16, 2018 #15 Share Posted February 16, 2018 There really is no dress code, people wear what they want irregardless of some previous subjective viewpoints. Even on formal night we saw some men with shorts and colored tee shirts. Majority wore nice casual, with more suits/coats/ ties on formal night. Ladies wore parallel styles. I saw no dress code police at the MDR doors.

Have always worn denim in the dining room as well as others in our group. I quite regularly see people wearing jeans and see no issues with them. T-Shirts however I don't wear (at least not ones with stuff on them), but I have done plain type t-shirt style shirts. Though my husband mostly will wear a polo or shirt with a collar along with jeans or Khaki's to dinner. Most of the capri pants I wear when warm are a denim material too. Doug910 Posted February 17, 2018 #18 Share Posted February 17, 2018 ...Our first time with MSC. So, let's recap... On casual evenings, Dockers/khakis/dress pants and a collared "golf style" shirt, and... On formal evenings, dress pants with a button shirt and a tie. Both perfectly acceptable?? ...Also quick question about attire after dinner. While attending shows and Casino, do some/most men change back to shorts and tee shirts, or stay in their "dinner" clothing??
plantlady104 Posted February 17, 2018 #19 Share Posted February 17, 2018 Your attire choices are more than adequate, again wear what is acceptable/comfortable to you. Some did get a bit more casual for the shows, i.e. by removing ties/coats, but others wore them too. Those who are committed to the shorts/tshirt style wear that all night. Shows are a mixed bag, as 3 different showtimes per most nights, so people may be dressed to attend dinner afterward, or others have completed dinner. My recollection is that majority were wearing nice casual to better, especially since theatre is kept fairly cool.
calgaryhhr Posted February 17, 2018 #20 Share Posted February 17, 2018 Correct. There is no formal dress code enforcement. During the first elegant night on this past weeks cruise the MDR was turning away people wearing shorts. I'm a casual guy when on vacation and was wearing shorts but as others were leaving saying that shorts weren't allowed I went back to our cabin and put on some jeans and they did not have a problem with that. I'm not packing formal for a vacation.
spidybabe Posted February 17, 2018 #21 Share Posted February 17, 2018 When we sailed on the Divina and seaside on the formal nights most men wore suits/ties with alot of tuxes mixed in. Women in gowns/cocktail dresses. Other nights most men in button downs/ties, women in long/short sundress type dresses. Nobody that we could see in the dining room was dressed "down". MSC has two formal/elegant nights and it is very much appreciated by the crew when the guests abide by it. This is the MSC style. There are many other informal lines to chose, but don't expect MSC to change. Safe sailing Sent from my SM-N950U using Forums mobile app
