Cashing in casino chips Norwegian Epic

Recommended Posts

That may be what it says but the reality is you can save a voucher for a future cruise as long as you are going on the same ship. I have done it multiple times on the BA. I do not know if they have a cutoff date but I was able to just insert it into the voucher redemption machine but you can also go to the cage. My guess would be one year just like Atlantic City. I also have held chips for a future cruise and cashed them in on day one but again that was only 3 months between cruises.

Hopefully you don’t lose money in the future by not following the rules.

And I would not recommend that anyone follow your example because you “got away with it” and didn’t lose your money.

NCL has clear terms and conditions that should be adhered to.

I recently went on my first cruise, the Norwegian Epic. I played in their casino and kept the chips in my pocket instead of cashing them in and out multiple times. On the day of disembarkation, I was told the casino cage was closed and I'd have to send the chips in via mail.

When I contacted customer service, I was told they don't accept chips by mail and I would have to use them on my next cruise. Logistically, that's not going to happen. It's very frustrating as I had no way of knowing the cage would be closed. It feels like they're using a technicality to keep my money.

Has anyone had this experience? Were you able to find a remedy?

Is anyone going on the Epic anytime soon that would be able to cash these chips for me? I'd be happy to pay a percentage in exchange for the transaction.

I see that you got lots of helpful advice. I am going to try to be helpful too. I am leaving for the Epic on March 31. I would be willing to cash them in for you. If that is something you are interested in doing I'll give you some personal info.

Now let's wait for the negative nellies to give their opinions of that.

Simple rules, sure. The devil is in the details. Was it unreasonable to assume I could cash them out on the day of disembarkation? I made an attempt while still on the boat.

That's helpful. Thanks.

Unfortunately it probably was unreasonable to assume that you could cash them out that morning. As I'm sure you learned the Casino was not open when you were in port, so I'm not sure why you would think it would be open in port on the last day.

Also on the last full day of the cruise you got a Freestyle Daily that mentioned everything that open the next morning and the casino was not listed on it. The casino was mentioned on every other Daily that you received.

Hopefully you can find someone to cash the chips for you, but this is really on the OP.

Email CAS yourself and see what answer you get. How do you think I found out in the first place? I found a ticket I forgot to cash out and emailed them. They said as long as its the same ship I could cash it out on the next sailing.

OP your best bet is to email CAS at casinoinquiries@ncl.com

And see what they suggest you do.

Here, once again, is the written policy. Anything else from someone shooting from the hip in email is fake news. Even you were speculating how long a voucher is good for.

Gaming Vouchers may be redeemed at any slot machine, designated cashier location or ticket redemption location onboard the ship. All tickets will be voided at cruise end and will not be refunded. Table Game Chips may be redeemed on future cruises as long as the chips series has not expired.

Because I had a cruise the following month so the time frame was a non-issue for me.

Are you saying an email to Casinos at Sea is the wrong thing for the OP to do? Do you believe the right thing for him to do is to mail a stranger $400 and hope he gets someone honest?

Just because someone has a different opinion and/or experience then you does not make it fake news and it makes you sound ...

Shifty - If you haven't already found someone willing to help, we will be on the Star on April 8 for a PC cruise and would be glad to cash your chips for you and send you a check when we return on April 22, no percentage necessary. You can email us at goodrichok at earthlink dot net and we'll work out details.

Thanks for all the responses, even the harsh ones. Some thoughts/replies....

Yes, this was my first cruise. Complete noob. It was a 3 day cruise on the EPIC, 3/7 - 3/10.

Could I have been more proactive about learning when to cash out? Sure. I specifically asked a blackjack dealer when the casino closed. He told me "It depends on when the bosses say." Not all that helpful. I should have gotten clarification.

Yes, I was painfully aware the casino closed when in port. I'm guessing they don't have a Florida/Bahamas gaming license. But the casino cage doesn't have to allow gambling. They just have to exchange chips for cash.

I'm sure the rules read so that the casino department can deny my request to send the chips in the mail. In fact, "Casino lnquiries <Casinol@ncl.com>" has been very clear in telling me my only option is to take another cruise. I'm sure that's what they want. That or for me to never cash in my chips. I'm hoping they see the customer service side of things and decide not to be so heavy handed. An otherwise fun trip is now a bit soured. Was it my fault? Sure. I've left items in hotel rooms before only to have them shipped back to me. Was that my fault? Of course. But the businesses thought sending me my forgotten items was the right thing to do.

Lastly, to those offering to cash in the chips for me, thank you all so much. I'm a regular on other (non-cruise related) forums and if NCL customer service fails me, I will ask one of you for an assist. I'll send you the chips with a pre-paid return envelope, or my paypal/Venmo/square cash, etc...

Thanks again everyone.

Lol yeah, for sure. That's why I said "I should have gotten clarification."

No way I'd blame the dealer at all. Or any one individual, really. I'm more at fault than anyone on the boat. I'd just like them to be a little more cooperative and understanding after the fact. It's not like I did this on purpose or acted nefariously.

HEY LOOK OVER HERE EVERYONE A RULE BREAKER! See no one cares to all of you quick to slap a red letter on the poor guy. Good thing you did not also put your stuff on a lounge chair. I see others have offered to assist you. I will as well if you need help still, but I am sure any of these other folks are just as good of a choice as I.

After weeks of back and forth with customer service and trying to escalate my issue, NCL has flat out refused to cash my chips without taking another cruise. I felt dizzy for a few days after this cruise, so I'm not keen on getting on a boat again anytime soon.

If any of you fine, upstanding citizens are cruising in the near future and are willing to cash in these chips for me, please let me know. I will send them via FedEx and you can return payment in whatever digital method is most efficient.

Thanks for all the replies here.

Does anyone know if chips from the Getaway from last spring would be good on Escape this spring?

Yes they should be good. I once forgot to cash out a couple of black chips while on the Gem and I was able to cash them out on the Breakaway several months later. Cashier told me as long as the series was still in use it was fine. And even though the Gem chips were different then the Breakaway chips cashier was still able to accept them.

That said I wouldn't wait multiple years to cash them in as they do occasionally change series.

OP- maybe find someone local to you on one of the roll calls and see if they would be willing to cash them in for you.

Last day of our NCL Jade transatlantic from BCN to Tampa we went out for dinner at 7pm. I was going gambling after dinner and then cash in the chips (I had a few black ones), but during dinner I happened to glance out of the window and …… saw lights!!!! And then the Sunshine Skyway bridge! Oh no!!!

The Jade had reached the bay and it meant the casino was closed! There were no mention in the dailies OR any announcements that the casino would close very early - I was so miffed off!

Anyway, I went to guest services and asked to cash in my casino chips there and then, and they complied!

Jade docked before midnight and no one could not understand why - nothing was said of the reason we docked early. Roll on 7am I opened the curtains to PEA SOUP!! Heavy fog!

If we had been told about the early arrival I'd have gone gambling all afternoon instead of waiting until after dinner.

But I was able to cash in the chips at guest services.

This story has a happy ending thanks to the user forgotmyCCname

We connected via email. They took my chips on the Epic and cashed them. Despite my offer for them to keep 10%, this fantastic human being sent the full amount.

Quite the favor for an internet stranger. I tip my cap.

Good to hear! There are actually a lot of nice people out there, in addition to the awful snarky ones who cannot just follow the “if I can’t post something helpful I’ll just keep it to myself” guideline....
