z4ltw Posted March 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Wife and I are doing Explorer of the Seas (Alaska) in July 2018 , and they have a mystery dinner one night in the Italian specialty dining venue. $79/person. I would welcome everyone's feedback if you've ever done a mystery dinner with RCL Thanks!
champagne123 Posted March 25, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Yikes! Cannot give my opinion as I have never even heard of this, but for $160 plus gratuity (I would imagine)....you can keep it.
TennesseeNationVol Posted March 25, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2018 We did this on RCCL and it was wonderful and totally fun. Great dinner and they had entertainers from the cast participate. Very worth the money and was like a custom specialty restaurant dinner with a special menu and wine selections. We would highly recommend it!!! taglovestocruise Posted March 25, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Second vote for yes. Cocktails in Olive and Twist and then a little mystery, move on to Giovanni's where the wine flows nonstop and then a great filet mignon as you solve the crime. A little high schoolish but fun for one time. Plus day one in MDR is a pain in the a**. happy cruising
Clarea Posted March 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Wife and I are doing Explorer of the Seas (Alaska) in July 2018 , and they have a mystery dinner one night in the Italian specialty dining venue. $79/person. I would welcome everyone's feedback if you've ever done a mystery dinner with RCL Thanks! No way for us. I had a problem with the price when it was $45 per person. Menu is very reduced, only 2 or 3 choices for entree. Wine is the lowest end wine on the ship.
steveru621 Posted March 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2018 It certainly is expensive, but it's a fun night. There is no rhyme or reason behind the who-done-it. We have done the dinner with friends twice on two different ships. Both were slightly different.
newxmascruiser Posted March 25, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Gosh that’s gone up in price!! We did it on Adventure, was a great night. Considering we had a drinks package already i felt they should offer 2 prices so if you have already paid your drinks it’s slightly cheaper. Anyhow if the cost doesn’t faze you if day go for it it’s really fun
ONECRUISER Posted March 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 25, 2018 For less price which I've seen onboard it's worth it. Think was offered at $49 & $59 last 2 times I sailed. Fun to do once...

newxmascruiser Posted March 25, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Ha ha when you say it like that 77.50 for the food and entertainment sounds even more steep!! Anyways irrelevant of prices in days gone, if anyone is comfortable with the current price right now then i still say fun night go for it
Bookish Angel Posted March 25, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 25, 2018 My then 20 year-old daughter and I did it several years ago when it was significantly less expensive. We did not care for it as it was trite and poorly executed.:( Perhaps it has it improved. I hope so.

Yes, if they offer the Mystery Dinner on a cruise, it typically shows up in the Cruise Planner.

SharkCruiser24 Posted March 26, 2018 #17 Share Posted March 26, 2018 I did the mystery dinner in Jewel 4 years ago but it was $55 per person. It was a lot of fun but I wouldn’t pay $79 per person. Especially if you have the drink package. The big draw for me was they had unlimited wine and I didn’t have the drink package on that cruise. dacsmom Posted March 26, 2018 #18 Share Posted March 26, 2018 I have done it a few times and had a great time. The price seems to have increased since the last time I went but it was a lot of fun. Good dinner, unlimited wine, and a fun show.
George C Posted March 26, 2018 #19 Share Posted March 26, 2018 We did a couple of years ago, only reason they had a big discount paid about 50, food was good, wine was not, show was corny but fun, guessed killer won basket of stuff , wine backpack, hat etc
BethV114 Posted March 26, 2018 #20 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Yes, the price is steep, but we decided to book it anyway for our upcoming cruise. We embark on Easter Sunday, which is the day of the event, and thought it would be a fun way to spend the holiday. DD has also been asking about attending a murder mystery dinner, so this seemed like a good way to get our vacation started.
Rare Rogueperson Posted March 26, 2018 #21 Share Posted March 26, 2018 I think i did that on the Independence for 1/2 that price. I found the event to be hokey, but fun. I actually won the contest that night. On mine, at the end of the night, you were given a voting sheet for you to decide who did it. It was thrown in a pile and sorted. Those who guessed right, were entered into a drawing and got some goodies. I came out with a bottle of champagne and some other cool stuff. But for $79/person, I would say no to this and upgrade to the slightly more expensive, but way worth it Chef's Table. I've actually done Chef's Table for $75/person, but it hovers between 79 - 95/person.

You have clearly been on your cruise by now.. but for others looking it is in the entertainment section of cruise planner, not dining options
mikaula Posted August 31, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 31, 2018 We did a mystery dinner several years ago on NCL and it was fun & free! I miss the days of included activities. (Behind the scenes, glassy, bridge tours)
