Freckle53 Posted April 2, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2018 The time we were on the Breakaway, we didn't debark until 11 am. For some reason, everything was late that time, but I would not risk a flight that early.
mi2boyz Posted April 2, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted April 2, 2018 We found better times out of JFK. Would it be easy enough traveling to JFK? Thinking we would probably use Uber.
tom66 Posted April 2, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2018 JFK is a much better . LGA is a tiny airport and always construction going on .I avoid it at all costs. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
moosecrouse Posted April 2, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2018 10 am would be pushing it. Many guests do self walk off in NY. Best case your off by 830. Figure half hour to airport. Then you'd have to check in and go through security in about a half hour. Everything would have to go 100% perfect for it to work. Rare mking8288 Posted April 2, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2018 JFK is better as an airport, it's further away in both distance & minimum time needed; even for a typical Sunday disembark for "most" Escape sailings coming up (Bermuda ??) That is, assuming ship is on-time (or early) for 8 AM arrivval, disembarkation and getting thru CBP out to the fastest ground transfer ... far too many unknown & unpredictable variables to consider a 10:15 or even 11:15 AM. Time saved in offsetting any LGA airport construction and/or traffic delays would tie for longer travel time getting out to JFK's terminals; and, longer walk out to the gates, once you get thru TSA. Excluding gangway time out past the terminal's cubside for ground transfer, time to LGA is anywhere from 30 to 90+ minutes, 45 minutes is a reasonable bet vs. time to JFK from 1 to 2 hour, 75 minutes. Reserve/exclude the mass transit options for the most experienced & repeat NYC travelers and locals. Book a flight after 12 noon, at a minimum, or better yet, 1 PM. Plus, to tilt the odds to your advantage, on getting ahead of majority of the 4,500+ pax ... pack light, do the Express Walkoff & once inside the terminal, especially when time is short - use porter's services for the faster track. If ship is delayed docking till 8:30 and isn't clear until 9 AM, it's reasonable to assume that for anyone with priority & escorted disembarkation/walkoff with luggage ... the earliest you can get to LGA curbside is after 10 to 10:30 AM, then, you have to deal with TSA and airline/gate agent even if doing just carry-on luggage. Anyone prepared to "guarantee" OP can make it, I doubt it.
Rare BirdTravels Posted April 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2018 Can we make a 10:00 am flight out of LGA disembarking from the Escape out of New York? Actually too early. If you must, make sure you are in line to disembark by 6:30 with all of your luggage. 4500 of your new friends will have the same idea for an early disembarkation, and you have to be near the front of the line. DCLCrazy Posted April 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2018 No. I wouldn’t leave any earlier than 1, tops! Reason being, even if you got off the ship at 8am, you still have to stand in a very long line to catch a cab. That was the worst part of the morning. We probably waited for a cab for an extra 30 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
starri Posted April 3, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2018 Best case your off by 830. Figure half hour to airport. Sent from my SM-N900V using Forums mobile app I live in Queens and can get to LGA in about 10 minutes with no traffic. There is no way to get from the west side of Manhattan into Queens in 30 minutes. On a good day, 45. Maybe.
MizDemeanor Posted April 3, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2018 Can we make a 10:00 am flight out of LGA disembarking from the Escape out of New York? What time do you have to have your luggage checked in by for your flight? While not certain I think for most domestic it’s 45 minutes before it could be 60 minutes. Check with your carrier about that and then use that as your must be checked in by time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Budget Queen Posted April 3, 2018 #13 Share Posted April 3, 2018 For the majority of people- no, this is a poor plan. It doesn't matter if I make flights or not, so I have made a 10:30am flight out of LGA. I also always use buses/subways to get to both LGA and JFK. MJSailors Posted April 3, 2018 #14 Share Posted April 3, 2018 To the OP Are you feeling particularly lucky ? If not, book a later -early afternoon -flight. My DH and I have disembarked the Breakaway twice at the NYC pier. The line began on the ship, snaking around the casino before leaving the ship. Then ,we stood on line outside of the terminal for at least a half hour until we reached the escalator to baggage claim and customs. If you do self-disembark and leave the ship early, the process may not be as long for those passengers needing to find their luggage in the terminal. Personally, I would rather be waiting for awhiile at the airport gate than white-knuckling it until I reached the airport for my flight. Why ruin a relaxing vacation with a stress provoking disembarkation and ride to the airport ? BTW, JFK is a better choice of airport for a number of reasons, some of which have been mentioned in previous posts.
Rare coldinerie Posted April 3, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 3, 2018 We missed our flight out of JFK in September 2017 due to lots and lots of protests, marches and traffic, all of which were not noted any where on the web. So, unless you want to pay a change fee like I did, do not take a 10 am flight. NYC is full of unexpected issues, but a great city, anyway. NYcruzzer Posted April 3, 2018 #17 Share Posted April 3, 2018 Can we make a 10:00 am flight out of LGA disembarking from the Escape out of New York? Only if you are flying in a chopper from West side heliport to LGA....
trivia addict Posted April 3, 2018 #18 Share Posted April 3, 2018 Unless your ship is scheduled to dock VERY early, it would be impossible to disembark the ship, go through customs, fight morning traffic, and check in at the airport and go through security, before a 10 am flight, which would have final boarding way before 10 am.
