traveling1969 Posted April 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Ok, so maybe it's just me but do the nicknames Connie (for the Constellation) and Millie (for the Millennium) grate on you? A bit too anthropomorphic for me and maybe a bit tacky as well. I know it's not a serious issue but I'm a bit of a pedant and this tendency to attach a sobriquet to everything is a trend I can do without. miched Posted April 14, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2018 I like Reefer for the Reflection What will it be for the Edge? Rim. Gracie Allen use to say my name is Grace but they call me Gracie for short. So Edge would become Edgy. Personally don’t care, don’t use nicknames, and don't see any reason for them especially for a ship Do people use nicknames for ships on other cruise lines? Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

SFCAcruiser Posted April 14, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 14, 2018 I have found that use of anything other than the full, correct spelling (looking at you, Millennium) make it difficult or impossible to use the search feature on this site. The search feature is hardly robust in any event, but when I want to research previous posts I have to search the various spellings, both correct and incorrect. Using nicknames complicates everything.

trivimp Posted April 14, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 14, 2018 What are people going to call Beyond? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Yannis? I don't have a strong opinion one way or another, but this thread is making me smile because my mother flew for TWA back in the 50's, mostly on Constellation aircraft. She used to call them "my beloved Connies." She hated working on the jets & retired when the Connies went by the wayside.
phoenix_dream Posted April 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2018 I dislike them, and yet just used 'Connie' in a post. My least favorite is 'Silly'. I absolutely positively definitely hate hate hate that one and I will never use it.
Rare mom says Posted April 15, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Tempest in a tea pot. Just like with people's names - if you don't want it shortened, or given a nick name, don't give such a long name in the first place. Elizabeth - Liz. Alexander - Alex . Los Angeles - LA. Johannesburg - Jo'burg. Constellation - Connie.

Then you could just call it Istanbul. I won't even start in on the possible abbreviations for that one, but now I am sitting here humming the old Istanbul song and guessing that about half the people reading this probably aren't even old enough to remember it. :D

cyntil8ing Posted April 15, 2018 #25 Share Posted April 15, 2018 I blame it on people not wanting to misspell, but not bothered enough to look it up. Millennium is just hard -- is it one l or two, and how many n's? And don't even talk about Silhouette! I still think it's better than on the Royal Caribbean forums. What's AOS? Allure of the Seas? Adventure of the Seas? Anthem of the Seas?
