Melgi Posted May 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Hello, Maybe someone on Cruise Critic will be able to answer my question. We are already booked for a cruise in March 2019. Today, we just discovered, on the Princess website, that this same cruise is now 35% off. Does anyone know if this means we could ask Princess to have this sale applied to our initial price even if we are already booked? Thanks for your help! Rare CineGraphic Posted May 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Simple answer, yes. Sent from my iPhone while I probably should be working.
satxdiver Posted May 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Go on the Princess web site and see what a comparable cabin is now selling for and then call Princess with the information. They will move you to the new price. Just be aware that any perks with the original booking will be lost (free gratuities, OBC, etc) and the new booking may require a non-refundable deposit where the old one did not. No problem of course unless later you decide to cancel the cruise. I book early and then watch the offers for a better offer. They always are happy to change it. Remember if you book through a TA, they have to make the changes.
Thrak Posted May 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2018 As stated be very careful. If you had free gratuities, free flights, a large amount of OBC (other than from FCD or shareholder OBC which will be fine) you will lose those perks with the new sale and will only get what the new sale is offering. If it works out in your favor then jump on it. :D
Micahs Grandad Posted May 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Have learned you must check all the details, what at first is a lower price is not always.

Haboob Posted May 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Would someone explain the difference between "re-fare" and "re-book"? Especially when it is that you should do one rather than the other.
Canberra forever ! Posted May 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Please be aware if you live in the UK, Princess UK will not allow you to ‘re-fare’ to take advantage of price drops, you will have to cancel and rebook !

Hi Canberra Forever...is your name based on P& O's Canberra or Canberra , Australia ?? We are also close to Cardiff UK. Princess UK will allow you one chance to re fare your cruise.... At an admin cost of £100 per booking. Check with Princess direct or your travel agent if you used one. (Or maybe check with Princess Direct anyway, so you have details from horse's mouth. Not all travel agents understand T&Cs...know this as our new agent, although supposedly a cruise specialist, did not know how to apply Future Cruise Credits)

Shame we can't do multiple price drops as our cousins in the USA seem to be able to.
paul929207 Posted May 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Generally, in the US you can get the lower fare if final payment is not yet due. Just be careful as you may lose the perks attached to your original booking. You will have a choice of the original booking and the perks that are with it and the current offer and the perks that are with it.
skynight Posted May 12, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Would someone explain the difference between "re-fare" and "re-book"?Especially when it is that you should do one rather than the other. They kind of mean the same and the process is the same. It really doesn't matter what word you use to request the change. If you find a new promo that offers a better net fare, fare minus benefits, on request your current booking can be cancelled and you get a new one. You will lose any benefits you had with the original booking and will receive whatever new benefits are available with the new booking. Sometimes the booking number stays the same, sometimes it changes. I have seen it both ways.

My understanding is different than the answer you received above (but I could be wrong). When the fare drops but nothing else changes (free gratuities, drink package, etc.) they simply “re-fare” you and send out a new confirmation email. When you’re totally switching packages ... like totally dropping the freebies in favor of a lower cruise fare (or different package) ... then the one booking is cancelled (assuming it’s before final payment) and the new booking (“re-book”) is created. Mélissa Check the actual pricing for your cruise by doing a trial booking. The fine print for the Time Away Sale says “Save up to 35%.” We checked several cruises we have booked that are now offered with the sale and the price of one is unchanged for our cabin and down about 9% for DD’s cabin in a different category. On another cruise the price actually went up slightly. Also under the terms of that sale, the 10% deposit and presumably the $100 deposit if you used a future cruise deposit is NOT refundable. Thrak Posted May 12, 2018 #20 Share Posted May 12, 2018 I'm told the key verbiage to look for is "new booking only", buried in the ad or offer. There is absolutely nothing regarding "new bookings only" in the info for the Landmark Sale. I spoke with 2 different Princess reps and both agreed with me that there was no such caveat. However, I still can't change one of my bookings to that promo without losing the perks I already have.

If you're losing Shareholder OBC, Military OBC, Capt's Circle OBC (any other "non- promotional" perks?) you have a gripe. Otherwise, when you ...tweak? ...fiddle with? a booking, you are only supposed to get whatever is the now-current promotion's perks -- and then only if the promotion applies to that voyage. AFAIK, dems da rules. :(

If you look at my signature, you'll see I/ we sailed on her quite a few times. My pen name here (Reina del Mar) is after the first cruise ship I ever sailed on.....Union Castle line, in 1969. We live near Caerphilly. I try to mention the difference in T & Cs between UK bookings and those made is US, as frequently as I can. As yet, no one in Corporate seems to be paying the slightest attention !!!! As I understand they read these boards, I keep mentioning it, in the hope that one day we might be offered equal terms, conditions and prices !!!!!! Bon Voyage !!
