Magic problems

Recommended Posts

Just got an email from marinetraffic.com that the Magic's current info reported at 10:18 am central time is 14.4 knots and they're just southeast of Turks and Caicos. The map on their website doesn't seem to be updated but that's what the email I got says.

That would be terrible if people missed out on visiting family! We are sailing in 7/21. I'm praying everything is fixed well before then. I don't want anyone to miss any ports, or be without AC. We've had this vacation booked for months, and those things would absolutely affect it.

Rumors on the ship from staff that next weeks ports will be modified as well but they won't say what/when. I will update if I get more info.

On the bright side, at least the rumors aren't that she's going into dry dock.

I'm almost thinking that going into drydock and getting it fixed once and for all and have one sailing canceled would be better than going on for months missing a port every sailing (if it needs drydock to get fixed). I guess it depends on if it's your sailing that gets canceled or not.

The ship is runnng at 62% speed, A/C issues, dropped ports. I'm not sure I want to even board it on Saturday, remembering the ship that lost all power and was adrift in the GOM for DAYS.

Carnival needs to come clean and offer 100% refunds and preferential rebookings to those who don't want to risk it.

Please check in with us from your cruise and give up updates and rumors...if the internet works for you.

On the 6/23 cruise. Were going 21.5 mph first day (on husband's gps). Our room is cool. Have heard others complain of warm rooms. We are on deck 11 and it is fine. Everything going normally so far.

Thanks for the update. That would be about 18.7 knots which is still below normal cruising speed but maybe since they already eliminated St. Thomas, there's no need to go full cruising speed. Maybe it's fixed. As far as the A/C goes, there are people complaining about it on pretty much every cruise no matter the ship or the cruise line, some hot, some cold, some fine. I'm not sure what to think about it.

"going on for months"? First I have hear of that, where did that come from?

I haven't read all the posts in this thread today but I know Chief was mentioning the difficulty of getting dry dock space on short notice due to limited supply of those facilities and cruise lines scheduling them out months and years in advance for required maintenance. Just a guess on my part that's what the person you quoted was referring to. ;)

Glad to hear all is going OK... I am guessing common areas all cool with A/C? What about Jacuzzis all up and running?

That's exactly what I was referring to. I'm not an expert at all but was relying on Chief's experience on the drydock scheduling thing. I was just saying that if it required a drydock and that couldn't be scheduled for months then it would drag on. Not trying to start any rumors or claim I know anything special.

Was not implying that, just the first I saw it mentioned, hopefully they can correct issues without a dry dock.

I hope so too. I know it's causing headaches for all the cruisers and Carnival too. Getting the Magic fixed and back to normal operations would make a lot of people happy.

Are they going slow because they are near their next port and they are wasting time?

I am in a FB group and someone posted from the boat that it is on schedule to be fixed by tomorrow. They said it’s hot because it’s hot outside but all is well otherwise.

Believe me, I was on the June 9th sailing and my room was hot! First time in 7 cruises I’ve experienced that. It’s pretty much the same temps in the Caribbean year round. There were parts of the ship that were cool - MDR, parts of the lido and parts of the casino. It felt fine in the comedy club and showroom and piano bar. But my cabin on the 8th deck was hot.

It's quite possible one of your "it's MY vacation" self-entitled neighbors pinned their balcony door open wreaking havoc on a/c in all the surrounding rooms.

From what I read (on the internet) is that it wasn’t able to hit top speed. No idea if that has been fixed. And no idea how often a ship has to hit top speed. As for next week, as long as I’m on the ship for the week, don’t really care what we do. I was on the magic last September for the hurricane cruise and that was all messed up. Fun though.

I was on the Glory at the same week.

Everyday was a guessing game to see what Port you ended up in but still had a blast & was safe.
