possum52 Posted August 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2018 :p Thoughts are with everyone caught up in the current firestorms. Take care out there people. I echo those thoughts Kiwi Kruzer. It is very scary that there have been so many fires in NSW and Queensland and it is only August. There have been a s few in east Gippsland in Victoria as well. Rain is needed desperately in these and other drought affected areas. Leigh
The_Big_M Posted August 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Yeah, 64 bushfires in NSW alone, in Winter. But then you still have the Neanderthal fringe arguing climate change doesn't exist, and the price of energy is most important, as if nothing else matters. Kiwi_cruiser Posted August 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2018 We are currently in Newcastle, NSW and can see the Salt Ash / Port Stephens Fire from here in Newcastle: The night time photos where taken on Friday night and the day time photo was taken at midday on Saturday. Of course there is such a thing as climate change. The climate has been changing for millions of years - not just since recorded history or the industrial revolution or scientists decided there is an issue! We have always had droughts and floods and yes, fires. Please blame the careless and vindictive for most of these fires, not goverments, aerosols or electricty generation. Rare MicCanberra Posted August 20, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2018 The ongoing drought has made everything tinder dry and a fire season in winter. Tragedy for some, stress for many. Hope that we can get through spring and summer as well without too much devastation.
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 20, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2018 If only people had listened all those years ago when the warning bells were first rung. Perhaps some thoughts and prayers may help slow climate change down so far doing nothing hasn't helped.

Okay... so we've just had a massive increase in the "careless and vindictive" in the past few years, especially this year. Yeah, right. So the real reason is just that our police are doing a much more terrible job than ever before, and letting all the miscreants get away with it now. And of course, it has exactly the same probability in Winter as it did in the past as well... Oh, and what do scientists know. Let's not listen to them. So many holes in that story - and the excuses get richer!

Cheers It's not just "climate change", it is "climate change caused by man made global warming". Most people don't need it spelled out for them. We have always had etc, etc. But at what rate and at what intensity? That is the point. It is now at a greater rate and at a greater intensity due to climate change. People who can't see that are delusional. Scientists do not decide anything, they look at their instruments and report the results. If that is too political for some people, that is their problem.
