Boston Disembarkation - Voyage of the Vikings

We received notification of a different procedure this morning for disembarkation in Boston on Saturday. We will be doing the Passport verification in the Explorers Lounge starting at 7:15, with express disembarkation starting at 8:15.

 

 

I don't know if this is a test, or a changed - more info later

We've done this a couple of times in the past in Tampa with the old Ryndam when coming back from the Western Caribbean. So, not something new but not often used either.

 

I wonder if they use it if there is some issue with the terminal building (construction, etc.) or if there is a limited number of ICE personnel.

I'm very interested in this as your disembarkation affects my embarkation. Hopefully, everything goes smoothly!

If this is the one where they check non us citizens passports it can take hours. This included Canadians as well.

 

We had this on a Norwegian Dawn disembarkation. Even though to embark in Boston we obviously had to enter the country through customs, so quite a waste of time.

 

Our concierge said it would take like half an hour.

We showed up a little earlier just in case. It took us two hours to get through it.

And there was several hours worth of line still behind us.

 

One of the things was that there was one guy checking passports. And if they didn't have the whole cabin checked together instead of putting them to the side they would stop the whole line until they could get the rest of the people in that cabin.

 

Oh, also you still needed to go through regular cbp on land after disembark.

We also have done Immigration that way, One I particulafrly remember was Maasdam, on Canada NE Cruise though most usually, done traditionally in the Terminal

When we returned to Boston on the Maasdam from Canada a week or two ago, there were zero customs checks on the pier. Our immigration was done on the ship at Bar Harbor the day before which is normal so all we did on the pier was pick up our bags and leave. It makes me wonder if the border/customs people are trying to reduce their pier presence for low risk cruise passengers. Also, when we debarked from this years world cruise in Fort Lauderdale our customs declaration forms were thrown away without a glance and all we had was an immigration check.

When we did VOTV 2016 disembarkation, we had the passport check in the theatre, then left the ship, and saw customs had pulled people aside to sort through their suitcases too.

Just got off the ship, we were in one of the last groups to go through it. They blocked off parts of deck 5 and you entered the line in the casino and (two lines, one for US citizens and one for non citizens) turned toward explorers lounge in front of the future cruise desk. Held up our passports and just walked. I never saw anyone pull anyone over. We did not have our hand carry luggage with us, it was in the cabin. After the check we went and got our luggage and walked off the ship to get our larger suitcases. There were some desks set up in the lounge with the officers but they were just sitting there, I think I saw one person getting a passport stamped.

I was one of the first to get off, express disembarkation. As above I walked through the Explorers Lounge to one of two officers who were looking at passports and faces then passed you through. A hole was punched in our card and we were free to go. The officers seated to the side were handling Non US guests. There were quite a few to begin with, maybe it tapered off later.

 

 

When time to disembark came, they started about 10 minutes before the published time, I walked with my bag straight through the terminal to a shuttle and was off to the airport. In my cabin at 8am, at the airport around 9. Checked in and waiting for my flight.

Thank you for your posts about the cruise. I am especially grateful that you posted about the entertainment; it was nice to see that Paul Pappas is still entertaining on HAL ships. Between your posts and Sharon N's blog, I almost felt like I was riding along with you.

We were among the mid group disembarking. Everything went smoothly and we were off the ship 10-15 minutes earlier than expected.

 

After a great 2 days in the Boston area, we are now sitting in Logan Airport waiting for our flight home.

 

It was an amazing adventure, even better than I ever dreamed. I hope all our fellow VOV’ers had safe travels home and that we meet again on a future cruise!

It is an easy way for the CBP officers to get a nice breakfast and hot coffee while they work :).

Yep. We took a cruise from Boston once, never again.

It's a process that takes hours of standing in line. Even though you already had to clear CBP to get into the country to embark, and then again at the actual port to embark.

And they don't do anything more than look at your passport and compare to the passenger list.

 

Oh, and then you still get to go through CBP a second time on land after you embark.
