Pia - thoroughly enjoyed your Live From, exactly as I have all of them over the years. Will be looking forward to your travels in Japan (but I believe you said it was on another line). Use those Princess FCC's soon! :D

Jeanie - looking forward to hopping onboard with you in October!

I really admire ALL of you who do Live Froms, the next best thing besides being there.

Pia

Glad to see you back to Princess, and I still have fond memories of sailing with you & Mike, and Gloria & Lou on the Grand TA in the spring of 2011(?) . You may remember that cruise we didn't sail the first night from FLL because the Grand wasn't ready for sea after her 28 day dry dock.. If I recall right you or Gloria picked my San Diego Charger sweat shirt at the gift exchange, and we sat and chatted for a few minutes afterwards.

Sorry to just now see the news of Mike, though Thak's post in many ways mirrors my memories you and Mike, and hoping to see more of you and your posts here on CC or on another sailing again in the future

Warm Regards

Pete

Good Morning from Ft. Lauderdale where we are parked at pier 2.

And so, all things start and end as do cruises. Some long, some short. I want to thank you all for cruising along with me and participating in what mostly is my nonsensical chatter. When I see how many hits this thread has had, it's just like I never left. Right now I have several cruises booked, though the next one on Princess is not scheduled until October of next year. But I did purchase several FCC's, so look for me somewhere along the way.

Thank you again for being here. And a special thank you to Michael who knows exactly how to put things in perspective.

Pia;

Thanks for taking the time to post your "Live From".....:):):)

To Pete SrPilo,

Hi Pete, you have a really good memory. Yes, the four of us sat talking to you after the gift exchange and I was lucky one to get the Charger shirt.

That was a really nice cruise.

Regards,

Gloria (and Lou)

Gloria, It seems good cruises and good company does wonder's for my memory

Pete :)

Pia thank you for taking us along on your journey. It was enjoyable and entertaining to read.

Like everyone else who read what Thrak said, he is right. Stop and smell the roses along the way and remember how beautiful that moment was and cherish it.

Sorry for your loss Pia. Even though we have never met, I am one of many who do read your posts.

Greenie: thank you.

All: So what do you think I did today? Yep, booked another cruise. :D

considering your journey just started it already sounds delightful and sounds like you would make a great companion to me for travel.

My friends are on this cruise with you doing the 20 days. They got on the ship on Sat. and wrote you couldn't make it to Princess Cay. Having cruised so often I reminded them it didn't matter.

I definitely look forward to hearing more. Friends wrote about fobs being used wonderfully and the free internet.:):)

No, Pia. I'm not trying to make you cry. I'm just hoping you can remember all of the truly wonderful times because that's what is important. I woke up last Thursday and started to get out of bed when the most incredible pain gripped my chest. My wife was lying asleep and unknowing right by me. As it turned out it was a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot that had hit my lung. The pain was breathtaking - literally. As I was silently (not by choice but I was suddenly incapable of making a sound) thinking I might die right there and then I was oddly clear in my head and my main worry wasn't for myself. I was suddenly very worried for my wife. I have never met you (as you know) but have followed you for quite some time here on CC. From what I have read I feel sure that Mike was - as I was for my wife - likely more concerned for you than for himself. Remember the good times. Remember the laughter. Heck, even remember the times you wanted to sock him in the head. (There probably were such times.) Remember and rejoice.

Yes, I know it's "easy to say and hard to do" but - in that eons long (probably 30 seconds) I had last week when my chest was being crushed and I couldn't make a sound and my wife was sleeping peacefully by my side - I know I was more concerned with her future happiness than my (as I thought) imminent departure. I sincerely hope I haven't over stepped the boundaries of what is acceptable or what I should have said. If I have then I sincerely apologize but, from what I have gathered from your many past postings, it seems to me that you and Mike had many (Many!) wonderful times together and I hope you will always be able to focus on those times despite the devastating loss you have suffered. I don't know you and I didn't know Mike but I am betting that is what he would want as well. We will actually meet on an upcoming cruise and if you feel like walking up to me and slapping the crap out of me I promise I won't protest. I truly wish you all the best.

Thrak, so very happy to hear you're on the other side of your PE! Having experienced one, real time with my DH, I know how frightening they are. We too learned how important life is through that event.

Thanks Pia for the review. No hyperbole, just facts as usual. Seems you had a nice time doing what you like to do.

Thrak, glad to hear that you survived you PE episode. Mine was almost 6 years ago just 3 weeks before our Hawaii cruise on the Sapphire in Feb of 2013. BTW, good thing we bought the Princess insurance. We did take the same cruise on the Star later in the year in November. Grab life and enjoy it while you can. Life is fleeting and we never know when our time is up.

YMMV.

I enjoyed your thoughts on last week and even with our newbie status compared to Pia thought I would share. We were on Baja and beyond the internet at this point and needing to swipe everything twice I saw no value to the magic medallion. My husband thinks the gps tracking that’s involved is creepy and when I thought about I do as well. I have no interest in internet on vacation so can’t comment on speed. I will say that we walked the floor one afternoon to get to our room and the fob was opening and green lighting rooms other than ours as we walked past which is a huge concern. We loved the new bed so much I took home the info to consider buying one! The new tv was a nice upgrade and I enjoyed some of my on demand favorites every night before sleep. I found the buffet ok for breakfast although the omelet fixings in the cup was strange and I ended up with a spinach omelet at one end and bacon at the other everyday as they did not mix it! Lunch was kind of a mixed bag...everyday I struggled hubby was fine but I found very limited options. I did finally get a salad made in the back and enjoyed some chicken from the Mexican area, I certainly did not starve but some odd options. We had dinner in Crown Grill one evening and as always we were not disappointed. MDR worked for the remainder of the week and I did order off the always available side several times and was happy. Overall it was a great weekend and considering the storms brewing this week in th Caribbean I am happy last week was vacation.

Pia, I don’t know you but have read many of your posts with great interest. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope that time allows a measure of peace.

  • 2 months later...

Pia,

Thank you for posting.  I had followed your adventures and had wondered where you were.   I lost my DH about 22 months ago and I admire you for cruising alone.  I am trying to get up the courage to do that.  Life is one day at time.

Good job for going on.  I know how very hard it is.

Since this one, I've cruised from YVR to Japan and leaving again for a transatlantic in a few weeks. All you need is the strength to do the first one.  If you'd like to chat, you can find me using my screen name at Hotmail dot com.
