aussiechick7 Posted August 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Hi everyone, Looking for recommendations for a hotel, not toooo expensive, Will be flying into Sydney domestic then need to get White Bay next day, TIA Dale.:D
GUT2407 Posted August 27, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Can’t say much in Sydney is “not expensive” and I guess it depends on your definition. We like Holiday Inn the Rocks and the Grace in York Street, but when trying to save a few bucks look at one of the Ibis’ range, Pitt Street usually. Tara Jane Posted August 27, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2018 When we fly from Melbourne for a cruise, we fly the day before and stay at the Ibis budget at the airport. Its quite reasonable price, an easy 5 mins walk from the domestic terminal. Nothing fancy but air con, tea/coffee facilities, choose the superior room. Next day a taxi, shuttle, or ships transfer from airport to white bay.
By The Bay Posted August 27, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Another one to consider is Ibis Darling Harbour. Easy to get to by train and tram. It is then a shorter Uber/Taxi ride than most Hotels in Sydney CBD.
sailco Posted August 27, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Sounds like you may be flying to Sydney from Perth. If you get in late think about staying near the airport. The Holiday Inn Sydney Airport is one of the more reasonably priced options. The shuttle is about $6 per person each way and runs every half hour. Breakfast is often included with your booking. Next day get the train from the International Terminal to Central Railway Station, followed by a taxi to White Bay. Last time we did that it was under $30 and the best option when you're tired and have luggage. Enjoy your cruise.
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 27, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 27, 2018 I agree with an airport hotel or at least Mascot (lots of hotels that have a shuttle service from the airport) where you can easily get a train in the morning to Wynyard and then the ferry to white bay from Kings wharf. GUT2407 Posted August 27, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 27, 2018 I find the airport hotels a touch noisy. Flight noise and guests getting a head start on their holidays. Maybe I’ve been unlucky with them, but prefer a small trip to the noise I’ve experienced.
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 27, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 27, 2018 That is why Mascot works well.

Don't think we've ever had an issue with noise.

Rare gdlamberth Posted August 27, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2018 If the OP stayed near Central Train Station or Circular Quay, couldn't they take a ferry from King's Wharf or Barangaroo Wharf to White Bay?? I thought that was an option.

NSWP Posted August 27, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 27, 2018 If you want to stay right in the Rocks/Circular Quay check out the 'Shangri-La.' (5 star.) We are having 2 nights there on 26 & 27 Sept, whilst attending Evita Musical at the Opera House (birthday present from my generous son.) Majestic Princess will be in port then, so I can get my cruiseship fix as well:rolleyes: Shangri-La gets good reviews, rooms from $300 pn, but that's normal in that area. You can pay way more than that. Further south in the CBD cheaper it is generally.:*

Swissmiss6253 Posted August 28, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 28, 2018 The Shangri La is a glorious hotel but by no means inexpensive. Sydney is an expensive city. We have found the Ibis at Darling Harbour and the Wynyard Travelodge to be good value, you might as well enjoy being in the city!
Chiliburn Posted August 28, 2018 #18 Share Posted August 28, 2018 My suggestion is Novotel darling harbour. A bit more to see than the airport and catch the light rail to central for the shuttle or a taxi to white bay

Chiliburn Posted August 31, 2018 #25 Share Posted August 31, 2018 There’s a bit more to see in darling harbour than the airport, ibis is good. Catch the light rail to China town for dinner, good value and the food is fantastic. Then walk back to the ibis
